Colorectal cancer （CRC） is one of the most common neoplasms and an important cause of mortality worldwide （http：//globocan. ***]）. Approximately 35% of the variation in CRC susceptibility is likely due to heritable factors （Lichtenstein et al., 2000}. Genetic variations in the human genome include single nucleotide variants （sNVs）, short insertions and deletions, and larger structural variants resulting in gain or loss of genomic DNA larger than 1 kb, such as copy number variants （CNVs）. Leaving aside the importance of CNVs in sporadic tumor development, these variants can also be present in the germline DNA of healthy individuals from the general population and be considered polymorphic.

The effect of temperature on the electrical conductivity(σ)and seebeck coefficient(s)of n-type vapor grown carbon nanofibers(CNFs)and poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF)melt-mixed with 15 wt%of those CNFs is *** 40°C,the CNFs show stable n-type character(s=-4.8μV·K^(-1))with anσof ca.165 s·m^(-1),while the PVDF/CNF composite film shows anσof ca.9 s·m^(-1)and near-zero s(s=-0.5μV·K^(-1)).This experimental reduction in s is studied by the density functional tight binding(DFTB)method revealing a contact electron transfer from the CNFs to the PVDF in the ***,in the temperature range from 40°C to 100°C,theσ(T)of the CNFs and PVDF/CNF film,successfully described by the 3D variable range hopping(VRH)model,is explained as consequence of a thermally activated backscattering *** the contrary,the s(T)from 40°C to 100°C of the PVDF/CNF film,which satisfactorily matches the model proposed for some multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWCNT)doped mats;however,it does not follow the increase in s(T)found for *** these findings are presented with the aim of discerning the role of these n-type vapor grown carbon nanofibers on theσand s of their melt-mixed polymer composites.

Active DNA demethylation is critical for altering DNA methylation patterns and regulating gene *** 5-methylcytosine DNA glycosylase/lyase ROs1 initiates a base-excision repair pathway for active DNA demethylation and is required for the prevention of DNA hypermethylation at 1000 s of genomic regions in *** ROs1 is regulated and targeted to specific genomic regions is not well ***,we report the discovery of an Arabidopsis protein complex that contains ROs1,regulates ROs1 gene expression,and likely targets the ROs1 protein to specific genomic ***1 physically interacts with a WD40 domain protein(RWD40),which in turn interacts with a methyl-DNA binding protein(RMB1)as well as with a zinc finger and homeobox domain protein(RHD1).RMB1 binds to DNA that is methylated in any sequence context,and this binding is necessary for its function in ***-of-function mutations in RWD40,RMB1,or RHD1 cause DNA hypermethylation at several tested genomic regions independently of the known ROs1 regulator *** the hypermethylated genomic regions include the DNA methylation monitoring sequence in the ROs1 promoter,plants mutated in RWD40,RMB1,or RHD1 show increased ROs1 ***,ROs1 binding to the ROs1 promoter requires RWD40,RMB1,and RHD1,suggesting that this complex dictates ROs1 targeting to this *** results demonstrate that ROs1 forms a protein complex with RWD40,RMB1,and RHD1,and that this novel complex regulates active DNA demethylation at several endogenous loci in Arabidopsis.

Use of pocket pulse oximeters for detecting peripheral arterial disease in patients with diabetes mellitus

Recent Aims: New diagnostic methods are needed to detect peripheral arterial disease easier than using the ankle-brachial index measured by Doppler devices. We investigated whether the use of pocket pulse oximeters could meet sensitivity and specificity criteria as screening method to detect significant peripheral arterial perfusion deficits. Methods: We measured oxygen saturation (saO2) at index fingers and great toes (on horizontal and elevated 30°) by a pocket pulse oximeter in 250 subjects with diabetes mellitus attending the outpatient clinic. A finger-to-toe saO2 gradient greater than 2% was considered abnormal. Ankle-brachial index was measured by a hand held Doppler device. Peripheral arterial disease was defined as an ankle-brachial index less than 0.9. Results: A total of 1392 (93%) valid saO2 readings were obtained. Twenty-seven (11%) patients were excluded due to not having measurable saO2 finger-to-toe gradients. A total of 223 patients were analyzed. Peripheral arterial disease was detected in 47 (21%) patients. A finger-to-toe saO2 gradient greater than 2% had sensitivity 42.6% (95% CI 30.0% - 55.3%), specificity 79.1% (95% CI 75.7% - 82.6%), positive predictive value 35.7% (95% CI 25.2% - 46.4%), negative predictive value 83.4% (95% CI 79.8 - 87.1), positive likelihood ratio 2.03 (95% CI 1.23 - 3.17) and negative likelihood ratio 0.73 (95% CI 0.54 - 0.93) to detect peripheral arterial disease. The area under the receiving operating characteristic curve was 0.69 (95% CI 0.62 - 0.77). Conclusion: Pocket pulse oximeters showed insufficient sensitivity as screening method for detecting peripheral arterial disease in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Potential for Growing <i>salvia hispanica</i>L., Areas under Rainfed Conditions in Mexico

The salvia hispanica L. is an endemic species Mexican plant, which relevance relies upon its properties as a natural source of omega 3 (α-linolenic acid), soluble and insoluble fibers, proteins, plus some other significant nutritional components. Due to the growing relevance generated by this crop, it became necessary to characterize its physical environment, as well as the natural factors related with its cultivation nationwide, aiming to find those most suitable for its production under rainfed conditions, looking forward to provide the basis to make a decision regarding where to target the agriculture promotion of such cropland. The software used for data process and analysis was the Arc/View 3.3 version. Thus, the crop requirements were recognized in order to analyze those most suitable for chia development in each one of its selected variables in the study hereby. The regionalization and mapping aimed to detect both the optimal and suboptimal potential areas for such crop were carried out, afterwards. It was finally determined that Mexico holds a total of 2,512,359 hectares with an optimal or high cultivation potential, whereas the areas with a medium or suboptimal potential are close to 3,658,089 hectares, which can be set under rainfed conditions.

simulation of Multi-Frequency Induced Currents in Biophysical Models and Agar Phantoms of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most frequent malignant neoplasm and the leading cause of cancer death in women in the world. Early detection techniques have been proposed on the basis of bioelectrical measurements. The aim of this study was to evaluate analytically and experimentally the inductive phase shift as a function of multi-frequency induced currents in breast cancer conditions. Virtual simulation by biophysical models and experimental measurements by magnetic induction in agar phantoms were developed to estimate the inductive phase shift as a function of the bulk electrical properties in typical breast volumes with tumors in specific positions. The analytical and experimental results are qualitatively consistent and provide evidence that the inductive phase shift has a potential clinical value to detect cancerous tumors toward inside a typical volume of breast tissue.

Clinical longitudinal evaluation of COVID-19 patients and prediction of organ-specific recovery using artificial intelligence

Within COVID-19 there is an urgent unmet need to predict at the time of hospital admission which COVID-19 patients will recover from the disease,and how fast they recover to deliver personalized treatments and to properly allocate hospital resources so that healthcare systems do not become *** this end,we have combined clinically salient CT imaging data synergistically with laboratory testing data in an integrative machine learning model to predict organ-specific recovery of patients from *** trained and validated our model in 285 patients on each separate major organ system impacted by COVID-19 including the renal,pulmonary,immune,cardiac,and hepatic *** greatly enhance the speed and utility of our model,we applied an artificial intelligence method to segment and classify regions on CT imaging,from which interpretable data could be directly fed into the predictive machine learning model for overall *** all organ systems we achieved validation set area under the receiver operator characteristic curve(AUC)values for organ-specific recovery ranging from 0.80 to 0.89,and significant overall recovery prediction in Kaplan-Meier *** demonstrates that the synergistic use of an artificial intelligence(AI)framework applied to CT lung imaging and a machine learning model that integrates laboratory test data with imaging data can accurately predict the overall recovery of COVID-19 patients from baseline characteristics.

As stated in the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, children have the right to go to school for free, to play, and to have the same opportunity to develop and to learn to be responsible and useful[1]. Young children are curious by nature and they have passion for learning [2]. An environment that encourages scientific thinking is what gives young children the time, space and materials to exercise their curiosity [3]. The aim of this paper is to present a methodology for the development of educational environments based on digital technology, internet and free programs available on the web, for the use and application of structural bioinformatics protein and DNA, for early stimulation in basic education at rural and indigenous communities in state of Oaxaca, conducted in On Line Learning & Training “OLL & T”. The course is divided into 4 sections: 1)Introduction to the topic of protein and DNA structure;2)search in protein data bank;3)Download RasTop program and use it as bioinformatics tool;4)Emulation of building a viral molecule. Workshops were given to children in elementary, middle and high school at the Universidad Del Papaloapan during the National Week of science and Technology, every year in Oaxaca since 2007 to 2012 and in Monterrey 2010 at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo León. Conclusions: positive impact was achieved in basic education in the area of natural sciences by analyzing the molecular basis of protein and deoxyribonucleic acid, theoretically and practically, as a support for teachers.

Root colonization by mycorrhizal INIFAP<sup>MR</sup>in barley seed treated with fungicide

The effect of barley seed treated with chlorothalonil fungicide on mycorrhizal root colonization was evaluated. The treatments were: 1) seed with Mycorrhizal INIFAP?, one, two and three doses, and uninoculated seed;2) seed with and without fungicide. Monthly seed plantings were performed with different storage time, looking forward to assessing the colonization degree of the roots. As revealed by the results, the seed treated with chlorothalonil did not lower the root colonization by Mycorrhizal INIFAP?;the chlorothalonil treatment had a 32.63% average root colonization, whereas without chlorothalonil, it was 36.46%. When the seed was treated with root colonization by Mycorrhizal INIFAP?, this was lower in the treatment with one dose;no significant difference was revealed by the treatments with either double or triple doses.?The colonization percentage was progressively decreased by seed storage. The root colonization by Mycorrhizal INIFAP?, throughout the inoculated seed storage time, remained constant and unchanged for the first six months, but then decreased in 50% within a 10-month period for both treated and not treated fungicide seed.
