Understanding the corrosion of Mg alloys in in vitro urinary tract conditions: A step forward towards a biodegradable metallic ureteral stent

Ureteral stents play a fundamental role in modern time urology. However, following the deployment, stent-related symptoms are frequent and affect patient health and quality of life. Using biodegradable metals as ureteral stent materials have emerged as a promising strategy, mainly due to the improved radial force and slower degradation rate expected. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize different biodegradable metals in urinary tract environment to understand their propensity for future utilization as base materials for ureteral stents. The corrosion of 5 Mg alloys - AZ31, Mg-1Zn, Mg-1Y, pure Mg, and Mg-4Ag - under simulated urinary tract conditions was accessed. The corrosion layer of the different alloys presented common elements, such as Mg(oH)_(2), Mgo, and phosphate-containing products, but slight variations in their chemical compositions were detected. The corrosion rate of the different metals varied, which was expected given the differences in the corrosion layers. on top of this, the findings of this study highlighted the significant differences in the samples' corrosion and corrosion layers when in stagnant and flowing conditions. With the results of this study, we concluded that Mg-1Zn and Mg-4Ag presented a higher propensity for localized corrosion, probably due to a less protective corrosion layer;Mg-4Ag corroded faster than all the other four alloys,and Mg-1Y stood out due to its distinct corrosion pattern, that showed to be more homogeneous than all the other four samples, making this one more attractive for the future studies on biodegradable metals.

Master regulators of skeletal muscle lineage development and pluripotent stem cells differentiation

In vertebrates, the skeletal muscles of the body and their associated stem cells originate from muscle progenitor cells,during development. The specification of the muscles of the trunk, head and limbs, relies on the activity of distinctgenetic hierarchies. The major regulators of trunk and limb muscle specification are the paired-homeobox transcriptionfactors PAX3 and PAX7. Distinct gene regulatory networks drive the formation of the different muscles of thehead. Despite the redeployment of diverse upstream regulators of muscle progenitor differentiation, the commitmenttowards the myogenic fate requires the expression of the early myogenic regulatory factors MYF5, MRF4, MYoD andthe late differentiation marker MYoG. The expression of these genes is activated by muscle progenitors throughoutdevelopment, in several waves of myogenic differentiation, constituting the embryonic, fetal and postnatal phases ofmuscle growth. In order to achieve myogenic cell commitment while maintaining an undifferentiated pool of muscleprogenitors, several signaling pathways regulate the switch between proliferation and differentiation of *** identification of the gene regulatory networks operating during myogenesis is crucial for the development ofin vitro protocols to differentiate pluripotent stem cells into myoblasts required for regenerative medicine.

Chronic myeloid leukemia(CML)is a myeloproliferative neoplasm and was the first neoplastic disease associated with a well-defined genotypic anomaly―the presence of the Philadelphia *** advances in cytogenetic and molecular assays are of great importance to the diagnosis,prognosis,treatment,and monitoring of *** discovery of the breakpoint cluster region(BCR)-Abelson murine leukemia(ABL)1 fusion oncogene has revolutionized the treatment of CML patients by allowing the development of targeted drugs that inhibit the tyrosine kinase activity of the BCR-ABL *** kinase inhibitors(known as TKIs)are the standard therapy for CML and greatly increase the survival rates,despite adverse effects and the odds of residual disease after discontinuation of *** therapeutic alternatives,the subsequent TKIs lead to faster and deeper molecular remissions;however,with the emergence of resistance to these drugs,immunotherapy appears as an alternative,which may have a cure potential in these *** this background,this article aims at providing an overview on CML clinical management and a summary on the main targeted drugs available in that context.

Precipitation isotope ratios(o and H)record the history of water phase transitions and fractionation processes during moisture transport and rainfall ***,we evaluated the isotopic composition of precipitation over the central-southeastern region of Brazil at different *** isotopic compositions were associated with classical effects(rainfall amount,seasonality,and continentality),demonstrating the importance of vapor recirculation processes and different regional atmospheric systems(South American Convergence Zone-SACZ and Cold Fronts-CF).While moisture recycling and regional atmospheric processes may also be observed on a daily timescale,classical effects such as the amount effect were not strongly correlated(δ^(18)o-precipitation rate r≤-0.37).Daily variability revealed specific climatic features,such asδ^(18)o depleted values(~-6‰to-8‰)during the wet season were associated with strong convective activity and large moisture *** isotopic analysis revealed the role of different moisture sources and transport *** ratios combined with d-excess explain how atmospheric recirculation processes interact with convective activity during rainfall formation *** findings provide a new understanding of rainfall sampling timescales and highlight the importance of water isotopes to decipher key hydrometeorological processes in a complex spatial and temporal context in central-southeastern Brazil.

Management of Gestational Trophoblast Disease: A Review Integrative National and International Guidelines

GTD (Gestational Trophoblastic Disease) is a pathology that encompasses benign and malignant clinical forms, affects women of childbearing age, has a variable incidence and is more frequent in developing or underdeveloped countries, colliding with the economic barrier. The frequent absence of clear protocols and guidelines for the correct diagnosis and treatment of the aforementioned pathology results in inadequate risk classification, imprecise treatment and failed post-therapeutic observation, increasing the risk of relapses, morbidity and mortality. The present study aims to compare the different national and international guidelines in the management of GTD, through an integrative review. Nine articles were selected and it was observed that the main international reference centers are agreed with the management suggested by the IFGo (International Federation of Gynecology and obstetrics), being the conduct in the Hydatidiform Mole (HM): evacuation by suction and curettage under ultrasound guidance, followed by hCG monitoring every 1 - 2 weeks until normalized;in low-risk GTN (Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasm): chemotherapy with methotrexate or actinomycin D, in high-risk: EMA/Co protocol, in ultra-high-risk EMA/PE, methotrexate with radiotherapy for brain metastases. All medical societies recommend the registration of these patients in GTD screening centers, endorse the use of the IFGo scoring system (2000) and recommend the surgical management of placental site trophoblastic or epithelioid tumors, as chemotherapy is less effective in these cases. The controversies are in the proper follow-up after the treatment of HM, use of ultrasound to evacuate the uterus, administration of anti-D immunoglobulin, time of oxytocin infusion and rescue regimens that can be used in cases of resistant or recurrent GTN. establishing and complying with consistent guidelines can improve patient care, with early diagnosis of the pathology and its complications, reducing the rate of

The present study aims to point out updated national and international practice protocols of diagnosis of GTD, through an integrative review. Seven articles were selected and it was observed that the main international reference centers are agreed with the management suggested by the IFGo (International Federation of Gynecology and obstetrics), being the conduct in the Hydatidiform Mole (HM): evacuation by suction and curettage under ultrasound guidance, followed by hCG monitoring every 1 - 2 weeks until normalized (usually one month for Partial Hydatidiform Mole six months for Complete Hydatidiform Mole and one year for Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia). Unfortunately, regarding the diagnosis of MH, the guidelines of some countries show the absence or difficulty of access to the karyotype test and ploid p57 or pelvic ultrasound accompanying the uterine curettage, contrary to what is proposed by the IFGo guideline. establishing and complying with consistent guidelines can improve patient care, with early diagnosis of the pathology and its complications, reducing the rate of recurrence, morbidity and mortality, especially in less developed countries.

The full length <i>PtSRP</i>(<i>Pisolithus tinctorius</i>symbiosis related protein) fungal mRNA encodes a potential marker of ectomycorrhiza formation

The Pisolithus tinctorius symbiosis related protein expressed sequence tag (est PtSRP) was previously identified in the first hours of the interaction between the fungus Pisolithus tinctorius and sweet chestnut Castanea sativa, and partially characterized as a fungal marker gene of ectomycorrhizal symbiosis formation. We used the 5’ rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) to obtain the PtSRP mRNA 5’ region, and together with our previously reported 3’ mRNA region, the full mRNA sequence was assembled by use of bioinformatics tools and deposited to GenBank (Accession: GU733439). The full-length mRNA sequence (636 bp) revealed the locations of the 5’ and 3’ untranslated regions (UTRs) and contained the Kozak sequence (ccc aag ATG A) in the 5’ UTR. The in silico translated PtSRP open reading frame (oRF) codes for a 127 amino acid protein and contained four putative post-translational modification sites (two N-glycosylation and two phosphorylation). The protein secondary structure is postulated to be composed of one N-terminal hydrophobic transmembrane alpha helix and at least six hydrophilic beta-strands spread across the protein. Sub-cellular localization prediction suggests that the protein is involved in cellular secretory pathway, supported by the presence of a cleavage site motif close to the membrane anchor. The data presented herein indicate the role of PtSRP as a fungal membrane secreted protein involved in early stages of ectomycorrhizal formation, with application as a possible marker for nascent ectomy-corrhiza fungal development.

The stomatognathic system (SS) is a functional unit of the body that depends on the balance of several tissues. It consists of various structures, including the temporomandibular joint. Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) can occur due to alterations in the SS. The Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI) is a scale used to evaluate and to characterize the TMD Type: no DTM, mild, moderate and severe. The aim is to evaluate the prevalence of signs and symptoms related to TMD in university students of the Parque das Rosas Campus, Universidade estácio de Sá that practice sports. This investigation was approved (CAAE number 325678413.9.0000.5284). Two hundred eighth students (110 male and 98 female, aged 19 - 35 years) accepted to be in this investigation. All the participants answered a General Questionnaire (GQ) and the FAI. The GQ had questions about the age, sex and the presence of TMD. The FAI was used. A statistical difference (p > 0.05) was not found about the presence of TMD. Among the female, an elevated number of the students with signal or symptoms related to the temporomandibular with statistic significance (p observed. In the population without TMD, the prevalence of this disorder is higher between male than female. Considering the FAI, among the female students, there is a prevalence of the Mild Type. Considering the evaluation of the type of TMD among the male and female students no difference was found between male and female to the types mild and moderate, however, the prevalence of the severe Type is higher in female than in male with statistical significance. In conclusion, TMD is a relevant clinical condition with an important prevalence among the university students. Moreover, the type of the TMD could be considered due to prevalence of the Type Severe among the women.
