Impact of the aqueous extract of dandelion, probiotic and their synbiotic on male lamb’s testicular histopathology relative to semen characteristics

This study aimed at investigating effects of dandelion/probiotic on the testis histology and semen characteristics of male lambs. Twelve prepuberal Noemi male lambs (2 ± 0.4-month-old and 20 ± 3.5 kg b.W) were randomly allocated into four groups. Animals in group 1 were controlled, orally given normal saline as the same schedule of treated animals. In group 2 animals were given daily oral 50 ml of an aqueous extract of dandelion leaves. In group 3 animals were given a daily 50 ml of cow’s milk probiotics, and in group 4 animals were given 50 ml of a 1:1 mixture (dandelion extract: probiotic). Animals were treated for 8 consecutive weeks. At puberty, semen ejaculates were collected weekly for further 10 weeks. Thereafter, animals were sacrificed and testicles were obtained, weighed and a histopathological study was performed on the testis. Results revealed that oral administration of the dandelion aqueous extract to prepuberal lambs exhibited disturbances in the histological architecture of the testicular semeniferous tubules. Additionally, dandelion resulted in edematic interstitial tissues with evident vaculations. These deteriorations were reflected in less spermatogenesis (i.e. less sperm concentration and ejaculate volume by 10% and 20%, respectively than controlled group). Also, the percentage of sperm progressive motility was lower (P biotic hasn’t revealed a change in the seminiferous tubules architecture, however, very little vaculation with rare edema was observed. Administration of the synbiotic mixture revealed intermediate histopathological appearances. The highest sperm concentration, testosterone concentration and advanced motility were obtained when probiotic was administered. In conclusion, although dandelion cures some hepatic malfunctions in human, caution must be taken into consideration of the frequent ingestion of dandelion for its harmful eff

In the medical field, new technologies are incorporated for the sole purpose of enhancing the quality of life for the patients and even for the normal healthy people. Infrared technology is one of the technologies that have some applications in both the medical and biological fields. In this work, the thermal infrared (IR) measurement is used to investigate the potential of skin cancer detection. IR enjoys non-invasive and non-contact advantages as well as favorable cost, apparently. It is also very well developed regarding the technological and methodological aspects. IR per se is an electro-metric radiation that all objects emit when their temperature is above the absolute zero. And the human body is not different in this regard. The IR range extends, ideally, to cover wavelengths from 800 nanometer to few hundred micrometer. Cancer, in modern life, has grown tangibly due to many factors, such as life expectancies increase, personal habits and ultraviolet radiation exposures among others. Moreover, the significant enhancement of technologies has helped identifying more types of cancers than before. The sole purpose of this work is to investigate further IR technology methods and applications not yet matured in skin cancer detection to enhance the detection ability with higher safety level.

GeSn alloys are promising materials for CMOS-compatible mid-infrared lasers ***,Sn alloying and tensile strain can transform them into direct bandgap *** growing laser technology however suffers from a number of limitations,such as poor optical confinement,lack of strain,thermal,and defects management,all of which are poorly discussed in the ***,a specific GeSn-on-insulator(GeSnOI)stack using stressor layers as dielectric optical claddings is demonstrated to be suitable for a monolithically integration of planar Group-IV semiconductor lasers on a versatile photonic platform for the near-and mid-infrared spectral ***-shape resonators on mesa structures were fabricated from GeSnOI,after bonding a Ge_(0.9)Sn_(0.1) alloy layer grown on a Ge strain-relaxed-buffer,itself on a Si(001)*** GeSnOI microdisk mesas exhibited significantly improved optical gain as compared to that of conventional suspended microdisk resonators formed from the as-grown *** further show enhanced vertical out-coupling of the disk whispering gallery mode in-plane radiation,with up to 30%vertical out-coupling *** a result,the GeSnOI approach can be a valuable asset in the development of silicon-based mid-infrared photonics that combine integrated sources in a photonic platform with complex lightwave engineering.

Analysis of Reactivity Induced Accident for Control Rods Ejection with Loss of Cooling

Understanding of the time-dependent behavior of the neutron population in nuclear reactor in response to either a planned or unplanned change in the reactor conditions, is a great importance to the safe and reliable operation of the reactor. In the present work, the point kinetics equations are solved numerically using stiffness confinement method (SCM). The solution is applied to the kinetics equations in the presence of different types of reactivities and is compared with different analytical solutions. This method is also used to analyze reactivity induced accidents in two reactors. The first reactor is fueled by uranium and the second is fueled by plutonium. This analysis presents the effect of negative temperature feedback with the addition positive reactivity of control rods to overcome the occurrence of control rod ejection accident and damaging of the reactor. both power and temperature pulse following the reactivity- initiated accidents are calculated. The results are compared with previous works and satisfactory agreement is found.

Quality Assessment of Drinking Water in Tanta City, Egypt

The physico-chemical and biological （algal and bacterial） quality of tap water in Tanta City were elucidated. Samples were collected during December 2011, covering all the water plants and the areal extension of the pipe line network in Tanta. Total dissolved solids content classifies water origin into surface water, shallow and deep groundwater. Fe, Mn and hardness in some samples of groundwater origin are obviously exceeding the WHO （World Health Organization） limit. Mostly, green algae are found （31 species）, followed by diatoms （19 species）, then blue-green algae （13 species）. CCA （Canonical Corresponding Analysis） indicates that green algae are strongly correlated with pH, NH4, alkalinity, Mn and Si; diatoms with EC （electric conductivity）, turbidity, Zn and Si and blue green algae with EC and alkalinity. 50% of samples of surface origin, 80% of samples of both deep and shallow groundwater origins crossed WHO and Egyptian guideline in their content of mean TCC （Total Coliform Count）. CCA estimates strong correlations of TCC with temperature, NH4 and PO4; E. coli with EC; heterotrophic bacteria with turbidity and NO3; Salmonella sp. with Si and SO4 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with Mn. Finally, the water plants treatment may be not effective and pipes serve as a reservoir for pathogenic microorganisms.

Fabrication and characterization copper/diamond composites for heat sink application using powder metallurgy

Copper composites reinforced with diamond particles were fabricated by the powder metallurgical technique. Copper matrix and diamond powders were mixed mechanically, cold com- pacted at 100 bar then sintered at 900?C. The prepared powders and sintered copper/diamond composites were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM/EDS). The effect of diamond contents in the Cu/diamond composite on the different properties of the composite was studied. On fracture surfaces of the Cu/uncoated diamond composites, it was found that there is a very weak bonding between diamonds and pure copper matrix. In order to improve the bonding strength between copper and the reinforcement, diamond particles were electroless coated with NiWb alloy. The results show that coated diamond particles distribute uniformly in copper composite and the interface between diamond particles and Cu matrix is clear and well bonded due to the formation of a thin layer from Wb2, Ni3b, and bC2 between Cu and diamond interfaces. The properties of the composites materials using coated powder, such as hardness, transverse rupture strength, thermal conductivity, and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) were exhibit greater values than that of the composites using uncoated diamond powder. Additionally, the results reveals that the maximum diamond incorporation was attained at 20 Vf%. Actually, Cu/20 Vf% coated diamond com- posite yields a high thermal conductivity of 430 W/mK along with a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) 6 × 10–6/K.

background: A number of epidemiological studies around the world have shown that the occurred and the high prevalence of some chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, etc. are mainly caused by a high calorie and unbalanced diet associate with reduced physical activity. In Algeria, as in many emerging countries to improve the standard of living of the population and changes in lifestyle, more westernized characterized by abundant food and sedentary lifestyle especially among young people contribute to the increased incidence of these chronic diseases. Objectives: This work consists of a dietary survey conducted among adolescent boys and girls in Tlemcen (Algeria). Subject and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study of dietary intake of adolescent aged 10 - 17 years and anthropometric parameters: weight, height, body mass index. Results: Increased fat intake was associated with increased body mass index in both sexes, increased obesity and abdominal obesity in girls, boys are more active than girls and we observed decreased intake of sugar, the nutritient adequacy ratio of folate, niacin, vitamin b6, iron, magnesium. Conclusion: The early prevention of obesity in children and adolescents is essential in the prevention of chronic diseases in adults. We recommended adolescent by healthy diets towards helps regulate their body weight and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and some types of cancer and especially the girls by lifestyle more active.

Evaluation of Therapeutic Adherence in Patients Suffering from Chronic Inflammatory Rheumatism in the Rheumatology Wards of Lomé (Togo)

Objectives: Therapeutic compliance can be defined as the degree of adequacy between a patient’s behaviour and his doctor’s recommendations. Non-adherence to treatment has serious consequences in terms of morbidity and mortality. Our aim was to assess adherence among patients treated for chronic inflammatory rheumatism in Lomé. Patients and Methods: This was a multicentre cross-sectional study conducted from January 2015 to December 2021. Patients aged 18 years or older, treated in the rheumatology departments of the Sylvanus Olympio University Hospital or the bè Hospital during the study period, were included if they were diagnosed with chronic inflammatory rheumatism and started on disease-modifying therapy. Adherence was assessed using the Compliance Questionnaire Rheumatology 19 questionnaire, with a threshold for good compliance set at 80%. Results: Out of 13,214 patients received, 159 suffered from chronic inflammatory rheumatism (hospital frequency 1.5%), and 60 met the inclusion criteria for our study. There were 55 women (91.7%) and 5 men (8.3%), giving a sex-ratio of 1/11. The mean age was 49.5 ± 13.5 years (extremes: 19 and 78 years). Rheumatoid arthritis (68.3%) was the most common rheumatic disease, followed by undefined rheumatic diseases (16.6%) and spondyloarthritis (8.3%). Average compliance with treatment was 76.9% ± 12.4% (extremes 29.8 and 91.2). There was no statistically significant difference according to the type of rheumatism. Conclusion: Overall compliance was poor, with a Compliance Questionnaire Rheumatology 19 of less than 80%. It was non-significantly influenced by socioeconomic status, disease severity and duration of progression.
