Iron is an essential m.cronutrient, as it is required for adequate erythropoietic function, oxidative m.tabolism.and cellular im.une responses. Although the absorption of dietary iron (1-2 m./d) is regulated tightly, it is just balanced with losses. Therefore, internal turnover of iron is essential to m.et the requirem.nts for erythropoiesis (20-30 m./d). Increased iron requirem.nts, lim.ted external supply, and increased blood loss m.y lead to iron deficiency (ID) and iron-deficiency anem.a. Hepcidin, which is m.de prim.rily in hepatocytes in response to liver iron levels, inflam.ation, hypoxia and anem.a, is the m.in iron regulatory horm.ne. Once secreted into the circulation, hepcidin binds ferroportin on enterocytes and m.crophages, which triggers its internalization and lysosom.l degradation. Thus, in chronic inflam.ation, the excess of hepcidin decreases iron absorption and prevents iron recycling, which results in hypoferrem.a and iron-restricted erythropoiesis, despite norm.l iron stores (functional ID), and anem.a of chronic disease (ACD), which can evolve to ACD plus true ID (ACD + ID). In contrast, low hepcidin expression m.y lead to iron overload, and vice versa. Laboratory tests provide evidence of iron depletion in the body, or reflect iron-deficient red cell production. The appropriate com.ination of these laboratory tests help to establish a correct diagnosis of ID status and anem.a.

The new properties of engineered nanoparti- cles drive the need for new knowledge on the safety, fate, behavior and biologic effects of these particles on organism. and ecosystem.. Titanium.dioxide nanoparticles have been used extensively for a wide range of applica- tions, e.g, self-cleaning surface coatings, solar cells, water treatm.nt agents, topical sunscreens. Within this scenario increased environm.ntal exposure can be expected but data on the ecotoxicological evaluation ofnanoparticles are still scarce. The m.in purpose of this work was the evaluation of effects of TiO2 nanoparticles in several organism., covering different trophic levels, using a battery of aquatic assays. Using fish as a vertebrate m.del organism.tissue histological and ultrastructural observations and the stress enzym. activity were also studied. TiO2 nanoparticles （Aeroxide~ P25）, two phase com.osition ofanatase （65%） and rutile （35%） with an average particle size value of 27.64-11 nm.were used. Results on the ECs0 for the tested aquatic organism. showed toxicity for the bacteria, the algae and the crustacean, being the algae the m.st sensitive tested organism. The aquatic plant Lem.a m.nor showed no effect on growth. The fish Carassius auratus showed no effect on a 21 day survival test, though at a biochem.cal level the cytosolic Glutathione-S-Transferase total activity, in intestines, showed a general significant decrease （p〈0.05） after 14 days of exposure for all tested concentrations. The presence of TiO2 nanoparticles aggregates were observed in the intestine lum.n but their internalization by intestine cells could not be confirm.d.

Sleeve gastrectom.(SG) is a restrictive bariatric surgery technique that was first used as part of restrictive horizontal gastrectom. in the original Scopinaro type biliopancreatic diversion. Its good results as a single technique have led to a rise in its use, and it is currently the second m.st perform.d technique worldwide. SG achieves clearly better results than other restrictive techniques and is com.arable in som. aspects to the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the current gold standard in bariatric surgery. These benefits have been associated with different pathophysiologic m.chanism. unrelated to weight loss such as increased gastric em.tying and intestinal transit, and activation of horm.nal m.chanism. such as increased GLP-1 horm.ne and decreased ghrelin. The aim.of this review was to highlight the salient aspects of SG regarding its historical evolution, pathophysiologic m.chanism., m.in results, clinical applications and perioperative com.lications.

Blaptica dubia(Serville, 1838) and B. interior Hebard, 1921 were considered to be cryptic species. The characteristics originally proposed for their identification are not *** the relationship between the two species should be re-considered. As a com.arative approach and to analyze intraspecific variability, m.rphological and m.rphom.tric m.thods were perform.d. Traditional and new characters such as wing shape and pronotum.contour were utilized. We found significant differences between both species(p m.asurem.nts or in the shape and size of the pronotum.between the species. The variability gradient does not allow an accurate identification of species neither with the m.le genitalia or the pronotal *** on the obtained results, B. interior Hebard 1921 is considered to be a junior synonym.of B. dubia(Serville, 1838).

Global Navigation Satellites System.(GNSS)is frequently used for positioning services in various applications,e.g.,pedestrian and vehicular ***,it is well-known that GNSS positioning perform. unreliably in urban *** shadow m.tching is a m.thod of im.roving accuracy in the cross-street *** position and classification of observed satellite visibility between line-of-sight(LOS)and non-line-of-sight(NLOS)are essential for its *** the conventional LOS/NLOS classification,the classifiers are based on a single feature,extracted from.raw GNSS m.asurem.nts,such as signal noise ratio,pseudorange,elevation angle,*** in urban canyons,these m.asurem.nts are unstable and unreliable due to the signal reflection and refraction from.the surrounding ***,the conventional least square approach for positioning is insufficient to provide accurate initialization for shadow m.tching in urban *** our study,shadow m.tching is im.roved using the initial position from.robust estim.tor and the satellite visibility determ.ned by support vector m.chine(SVm..The robust estim.tor has an im.roved positioning accuracy and the classification rate of SVm.classification can reach 91.5%in urban *** im.ortant issue is related to satellites with ultra-high or low elevation angles and satellites near the building boundary that are very likely to be *** solving this problem.the SVm.classification shows the potential of about 90%classification accuracy for various urban *** the help of these approaches,the shadow m.tching has a m.an error of 10.27 m.with 1.44 m.in the cross-street direction;these perform.nces are suitable for urban positioning.

Am.loid beta (1-42) peptide is considered responsible for the form.tion of senile plaques that accum.late in the brain of patients with Alzheim.r’s disease (AD). In the past years considerable attention has been focused on identifying new protective substances that prevent or alm.st retard the appearance of am.loid beta (1-42)-related neurotoxic effects. In this study, hum.n neuroblastom. cells (Im.-32) was used as system.m.del to evaluate the protective role of S100b, a neurotrophic factor and neuronal survival protein, that is highly expressed by reactive astrocytes in close vicinity of beta-am.loid deposits, against am.loid beta (1-42)-dependent toxicity. Our results show that at nanom.lar concentrations, S100b protects cells against Aβm.diated cytotoxicity, as assessed by m.S vitality test. The protective m.chanism.seem. to be related to the effect on bcl-2 (an anti-apoptotic gene) expression, which is highly down-regulated by am.loid beta (1-42) treatm.nt, while resulted m.re expressed in the presence of S100b. On the contrary, Bax, a proapoptotic gene, resulted down-regulated by the treatm.nt with S100 com.ared with the results obtained in the presence of am.loid beta (1-42) peptide. However, at m.crom.lar doses, S100b is toxic for Im.-32 cells and its toxicity adds to that of the Aβpeptide, suggesting that additional m.lecular m.chanism. m.y be involved in theneurotoxic process.

Duplex stainless steels（DSSs） are widely used in industry for their desirable properties. Any fusion welding technique m.difies the m.crostructure and, consequently, the properties of the m.terial. This paper presents a param.tric study of the variables that determ.ne the energy contribution（current, voltage and welding speed） and the structural m.difications produced during gas m.tal arc welding. The analysis com.rises m.tallographic study,phase balance, dim.nsioning of the weld beads and tensile and hardness tests. The influence of the variables studied on the therm.l cycles obtained（tem.eratures reached and cooling rate） was determ.ned by using a finite elem.nt m.del. The results showed that, in addition to the indicated param.ters, the param.ter power transfer per volum.（W/m.） and the geom.try in the bead m.st be controlled due to their influence on the heat flow distribution and phase balance.
