Spatial and temporal heterogeneity in pollutant concentrations exists at the intra-urban level. In this research work, the concentrations of various pollutants and meteorological parameters are characterized between various central ambient monitoring sites at Houston, TX, and the Rio Grande Valley Regions of South Texas. Meteorological (temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction) and pollutant (O3, SO2, CO, NO2, and various PM species) concentrations were downloaded from the appropriate Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Central Ambient Monitoring Station (CAMS) sites for the year 2016. Correlation Analyses and Coefficient of Divergence (COD) analyses suggest that statistically significant differences occur between the various TCEQ CAMS sites in the Houston Region. Findings from this study will help the various stakeholders involved in assessing the overall air pollutants exposure burden for the local populations.

Radiopharmaceutical therapy(RPT)has shown great promise in the treatment of various cancers.However,the current approach is a"one size fits all"model,which results in varied patient responses,and there is a need for personalized RPT(Fig.S1 online).This personalized approach requires a better understanding of the physics,biology,radiobiology,pharmacology,immunology,chemistry,and imaging involved in RPT[1].Multidisciplinary research using experimental,numerical,and simulation platforms would be key to accelerating progress in this area.

BACKGROUND Suicide is a leading cause of preventable death worldwide,with its peak of maximum incidence in later life.Depression often puts an individual at higher risk for suicidal behaviour.In turn,depression deserves particular interest in old age due to its high prevalence and dramatic impact on health and wellbeing.AIM To gather integrated evidence on the potential risk factors for suicide behaviour development in depressive older adults,and to examine the effects of depression treatment to tackle suicide behaviour in this population.METHODS A systematic review of empirical studies,published from 2000 onwards,was conducted.Suicidal behaviour was addressed considering its varying forms(i.e.,wish to die,ideation,attempt,and completed suicide).RESULTS Thirty-five papers were selected for review,comprising both clinical and epidemiological studies.Most of studies focused on suicidal ideation(60%).The studies consistently pointed out that the risk was related to depressive episode severity,psychiatric comorbidity(anxiety or substance use disorders),poorer health status,and loss of functionality.Reduced social support and loneliness were also associated with suicide behaviour in depressive older adults.Finally,the intervention studies showed that suicidal behaviour was a robust predictor of depression treatment response.Reductions in suicidal ideation were moderated by reductions in risk factors for suicide symptoms.CONCLUSION To sum up,common and age-specific risk factors seem to be involved in suicide development in depressive older adults.A major effort should be made to tackle this serious public health concern so as to promote older people to age healthily and well.

Due to environmental policies and economic reasons， the water used in some flotation operations of complex sulfide ores is recirculated causing the ion concentration of some species to increase over time， affecting the flotation of the minerals of interest. In the above context， this work presents an experimental and thermodynamic analysis of the treatment of synthetic solutions with a high content of calcium and sulfate ions. The study focused on evaluating the use of two aluminum compounds for the precipitation of Ca;and SO;in the form of ettringite. The amorphous aluminum hydroxide was found to be more efficient than the crystalline one， giving rise to 83% calcium and 91% sulfate removals. The XRD analysis of the solids obtained showed to be ettringite the main reaction product， accompanied by small amounts of calcite， due to the absorption of atmospheric carbon dioxide. The final solution after the chemical treatment showed residual calcium and sulfate concentrations below 200 mg/L. Finally， the kinetics of calcium removal appeared to correspond to a second order reaction with respect to calcium concentration， with an apparent activation energy of 53.5 kJ/mol， which may suggest that the ettringite precipitation process is governed by the chemical reaction.

Fe_(81)Al_(19) polycrystalline alloys doped with Tb(0-0.25 at%) were obtained by arc melting.The introduction of Tb favors the formation of columnar grains in the micro structure of the alloys,which develops a texture in the [100]crystal direction.Microstructural examination shows that the alloys are composed in great proportion by the disordered body-centered cubic(bcc),A2 phase and by a small proportion of the ordered bcc,B2 phase.As a consequence of doping with Tb,the lattice parameter increases,so the calculated apparent crystallite size increases,indicating a decrease in dislocation density and therefore in microstrains.The change in the magnetostriction with the magnetic field,dλ_(T)/dH,is directly related to strain anisotropy that can favor the iron easy magnetization axis on the [100] direction.An increase in total magnetostriction is found in the doped alloys with a maximum of 90 × 10^(-6) at 300 K for the alloy containing 0.027 at% Tb.This enhancement is a threefold value of the undoped alloy,which is attributed to the smaller maximum strain value and the preferential orientation formation by the columnar grains.

Influence of different sports on fat mass and lean mass in growing girls

Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the effects of different sports(swimming, football, basketball, and handball) on fat mass and lean mass in prepubertal and pubertal girls.Methods: Two hundred girls(10.6 ± 1.5 years old, Tanner stages I–III) participated in the study and were divided into 5 groups: 40 swimmers, 40 football players, 40 basketball players, 40 handball players, and 40 controls. Fat and lean masses at whole body, arms, trunk, and legs were measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA). Pubertal status was determined using Tanner test. Effects of different sports on fat and lean masses were assessed through analysis of covariance with height as covariates. Analyses were performed separately in 2 groups depending on the Tanner stage(prepubertal and pubertal).Results: The girls of the control group had less lean mass and more fat mass compared to the girls who play sports(p < 0.05). There were differences in body fat between sports. The swimmers and football players had less body fat(p < 0.05). On the other hand, handball players showed the highest values in lean mass(p < 0.05).Conclusion: Impact sports(football, basketball, and handball) and low-impact sports(swimming) provide an appropriate development of lean mass in growing girls. We can conclude that people practicing sports at early ages ensure a lower fat mass and higher lean mass compared to those who do not practice. These results may be useful as a preventive method of adult obesity.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a progressive and neurodegenerative illness which results in alterations in cognitive development.It is characterized by loss/dysfunction of cholinergic neurons,and formation of amyloid plaques,and formation of neurofibrillary tangles,among other changes,due to hyperphosphorylation of tau-protein.Exposure to pesticides in humans occurs frequently due to contact with contaminated food,water,or particles.Organochlorines,organophosphates,carbamates,pyrethroids and neonicotinoids are associated with the most diagnosed incidents of severe cognitive impairment.The aim of this study was to determine the effects of these pesticides on the phosphorylation of tau protein,and its cognitive implications in the development of AD.It was found that exposure to pesticides increased the phosphorylation of tau protein at sites Ser198,Ser199,Ser202,Thr205,Ser396 and Ser404.Contact with these chemicals altered the enzymatic activities of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 and glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta,and protein phosphatase-2A.Moreover,it altered the expression of the microtubule associated protein tau gene,and changed levels of intracellular calcium.These changes affected tau protein phosphorylation and neuroinflammation,and also increased oxidative stress.In addition,the exposed subjects had poor level of performance in tests that involved evaluation of novelty,as test on verbal,non-verbal,spatial memory,attention,and problem-solving skills.

AIM:To provide an epidemiological characterization of ocular cicatricial pemphigoid(OCP)in Colombia.METHODS:We conducted a cross-sectional study using SISPRO.We applied the specific code of the International Classification of Diseases for Ocular Pemphigoid,from 2009-2019 to estimate prevalence,incidence,and the demographic status of the disease in Colombia.RESULTS:The estimated average prevalence was 0.22 per 1000000 inhabitants,and the estimated average incidence was 0.24 per 1000000 inhabitants.With a female predominance of 62.5%,and a male/female ratio of 1:1.6.The group of patients diagnosed with the disease after the age of 80 presented the highest prevalence.The departments with the highest prevalence were Antioquia,Bogotá,and Santander.CONCLUSION:There are important differences between worldwide and Colombian prevalence and incidence data,which may be related to genetic and epigenetic factors,and the possible underdiagnosis of the disease.According to the results,OCP is an extremely rare disease in Colombia.Nevertheless,it is important to encourage awareness of the disease due to its devastating consequences.
