Correlation of rib fracture patterns with abdominal solid organ injury: A retrospective observational cohort study

Purpose::Rib fractures are one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality and are associated with abdominal solid organ injury(ASOI).The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation of ASOI with the number,location,and involved segments of rib fracture(s)in blunt chest ***::This retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients with blunt chest trauma over the age of 15 years,who were hospitalized with the diagnosis of rib fractures from July 2015 to September *** ethic committee approval,a retrospective chart review was designed and patients with a diagnosis of rib fractures were *** who had chest and abdominopelvic CT scan were included in the study and additional data including age,gender,injury severity score,trauma mechanism,number and sides of the fractured ribs(left/right/bilateral),rib fracture segments(upper,middle,lower zone)and results of chest and abdominal spiral CT scan were *** correlation between ASOI and the sides,segments and number of rib fracture(s)was assessed by Pearson's correlation ***::Altogether 1056 patients with rib fracture(s)were *** mean age was(42.76±13.35)years and 85.4%were *** most common mechanism of trauma was car accident(34.6%).Most fractures occurred in the middle rib zone(60.44%)and the most commonly involved ribs were the 6th and 7th ones(15.7%and 16.4%,respectively).Concurrent abdominal injuries were observed in 103 patients(34.91%)and were significantly associated with middle zone rib ***::There is a significant relationship between middle zone rib fractures and ***-abdominal injuries are not restricted to fractures of the lower ribs and thus should always be kept in mind during management of blunt trauma patients with rib fractures.

Operation of the jet feedback mechanism (JFM) in intermediate luminosity optical transients (ILOTs)

We follow the premise that most intermediate luminosity optical transients （ILOTs） are powered by rapid mass accretion onto a main sequence star, and study the effects of jets launched by an accretion disk. The disk is formed due to large specific angular momentum of the accreted mass. The two opposite jets might expel some of the mass from the reservoir of gas that feeds the disk, and therefore reduce and shorten the mass accretion process. We argue that by this process ILOTs limit their luminosity and might even shut themselves off in this negative jet feedback mechanism （JFM）. The group of ILOTs is a new member of a large family of astrophysical objects whose activity is regulated by the operation of the JFM.

Computational fluid dynamics simulation of gas dispersion in complex facilities using Kit Fox field experiments:Validation and statistical evaluation

Gas release and its dispersion is a major concern in chemical *** order to manage and mitigate the risk of gas dispersion and its consequences,it is necessary to predict gas dispersion behavior and its concentration at various locations upon ***,models and commercial packages such as Phast and ALOHA have been *** fluid dynamics(CFD)can be a useful tool to simulate gas dispersion in complex areas and *** validation of the models requires the employment of the experimental data from filed and wind tunnel *** appears that the use of the experimental data to validate the CFD method that only includes certain monitor points and not the entire domain can lead to unreliable results for the intended areas of *** this work,some of the trials of the Kit Fox field experiment,which provided a wide-range database for gas dispersion,were simulated by *** scenarios were considered with different mesh sizes,physical conditions,and types of *** results of the simulations were surveyed in the whole *** data matching each scenario was varied by the influence of the dominant displacement force(wind or diffusivity).Furthermore,the statistical parameters suggested for the heavy gas dispersion showed a dependency on the lower band of gas ***,they should be used with ***,the results and computation cost of the simulation could be affected by the chosen scenario,the location of the intended points,and the release type.

Investigation of Hydrous Pyrolysis on Type-Ⅱ Kerogen-bearing Source Rocks from Iran and its Application in Geochemical and Kinetic Analyses of Hydrocarbon Products

Hydrous pyrolysis(HP)practiced on type-Ⅱ kerogen-bearing oil shale samples from the Sargelu Formation in the Ghali-Kuh Area,western Iran,using a specially designed apparatus was performed at different temperatures(250-350℃),with hydrocarbon generation evaluated at each *** comparison,the samples subjected to Rock-Eval pyrolysis before proceeding to HP resulted in T_(max)=418℃,HI=102,and TOC=4.33%,indicating immaturity and hence remarkable hydrocarbon(especially oil)generation potential,making them appropriate for ***,the samples were deposited in a low-energy reductive marine environment,with maximum oil and gas generation(739 mg and 348 mg out of50 g of rock sample,respectively)observed at 330℃ and 350℃,*** oil generated at 330℃ was subjected to gas chromatography(GC)and isotopic analyses to assess hydrocarbon quality and *** hydrocarbon generation data was devised to estimate kinetic indices of the Arrhenius equation and to investigate the gas-oil ratio(GOR)and overall conversion *** on the producible hydrocarbon quantity and quality,the findings contribute to the economic assessment of oil shales across the study *** developed kinetic model indicates the history of hydrocarbon generation and organic matter(OM)maturity.

Forecasting of Software Reliability Using Neighborhood Fuzzy Particle Swarm Optimization Based Novel Neural Network

This paper proposes an artificial neural network(ANN) based software reliability model trained by novel particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm for enhanced forecasting of the reliability of software. The proposed ANN is developed considering the fault generation phenomenon during software testing with the fault complexity of different levels. We demonstrate the proposed model considering three types of faults residing in the software. We propose a neighborhood based fuzzy PSO algorithm for competent learning of the proposed ANN using software failure data. Fitting and prediction performances of the neighborhood fuzzy PSO based proposed neural network model are compared with the standard PSO based proposed neural network model and existing ANN based software reliability models in the literature through three real software failure data sets. We also compare the performance of the proposed PSO algorithm with the standard PSO algorithm through learning of the proposed ANN. Statistical analysis shows that the neighborhood fuzzy PSO based proposed neural network model has comparatively better fitting and predictive ability than the standard PSO based proposed neural network model and other ANN based software reliability models. Faster release of software is achievable by applying the proposed PSO based neural network model during the testing period.

Solvent extraction and separation of light rare earth elements (La, Pr and Nd) in the presence of lactic acid as a complexing agent by Cyanex 272 in kerosene and the effect of citric acid,acetic acid and Titriplex Ⅲ as auxiliary agents

At present, the use of rare earth elements（REEs） has become an inevitable necessity in many modern industries. In general, liquid extraction is the best commercial method for extracting REEs due to its ability to control high volumes of liquids with electrical load. With the aim of improving a separation technology that would be superior to the existing extraction systems, the extraction behaviors of La（Ⅲ）,Pr（Ⅲ）, and Nd（Ⅲ） from an HCI medium with Cyanex 272 in the presence of the complexing agent lactic acid（HLac） and auxiliary agents citric acid（H3 Cit）, acetic acid（HAc）, and Titriplex Ⅲ have been *** effect of pH and lactic acid concentration has been examined. The use of lactic acid as a complexing agent leading to a high extraction of REEs with Cyanex 272 at pH = 5 was compared with systems without lactic acid. The results show that the use of acetic acid along with lactic acid leads to an increase in the extraction percentage of LREEs. While use of citric acid and Titriplex Ⅲ reduces the extraction percentage of LREEs. Finally, the presence of Titriplex Ⅲ together with lactic acid could lead to an increase in the separation factor of Pr and Nd.

Influence of varying bedding thickness of underclay on floor stability

The variation in bedding thickness of the weak immediate floor has long been a challenge in the lllinois basin coal mines when it comes to floor stability. The vertical thickness of the immediate floor is not constant throughout the mines and can vary over short horizontal distances. The biggest misconception from a design standpoint is to use the maximum or average thickness found from core logs taken from various locations on the mine property. The result of this practice is oversized pillars in the areas where the weak immediate floor has thinned vertically. This over-design leaves coal in situ which could have otherwise been extracted. This paper presents a plane strain numerical model to illustrate the effect of a change in bedding thickness of a weak immediate floor across one or two coal pillars. The floor bearing capacity of the variable floor below each pillar where then compared to the consistent floor. The results show that the varying bedding thickness of weak underclay has an impact on the bearing capacity of the floor. Geometrically with the decrease in bedding thickness for constant pillar width, the B/H ratio increases exponentially. The influence of varying bedding thickness on the floor bearing capacity is apparent at higher B/H ratios. The floor bearing capacity under a single pillar is in variable floor model if the average thickness remains constant. For single pillar, the average of the bedding thickness can be considered and for pillars in a panel, and a safety factor has been proposed to take into account this change in bedding thickness.

An image segmentation based algorithm for imaging of slow slip earthquakes

Laboratory experiments next to a variety of observations, especially in subduction zones, have explored the existence of a premonitory stable slow slip growth phase preceding large earthquakes. These phe- nomena play an important role in the earthquake cycle and thus precise imaging and monitoring of these events are of great significance. In the literature, ENIF （extended network inversion filter） has been proposed as a rigorous algorithm capable of isolating signal from different types of noise and thereby provides us with deep insight into spatio-temporal evolution of slow slip events. Despite its considerable advantages, ENIF still suffers from some limitations. ENIF applies Tikhonov method of regularization with a quadratic form of cost function. While anomalous slip regions have clear contrast with the background slip in reality, Tikhonov regularization tends to over smooth （globally smooth） the slipping portion on the estimated images. In order to avoid over smoothing phenomenon, we have incorporated into ENIF an image segmentation step which tries to preserve edges of slow-slip event. As a second limitation, due to the nonlinearity imposed by such constraint as non-negativity of slip rate, uncertainty propagation through model is not simple. As the core of ENIF, EKF （extended Kalman filter）, performs uncertainty propagation by linearization of nonlinear model using Jacobian and Hessian matrices. As an alternative for EKE we have also investigated the application of UKF （unscented Kalman filter） which uses UT （unscented transform） for uncertainty propagation. Finally, we tested our proposed algorithm using a low signal to noise ratio synthetic data set. The results show a significant improvement in the perfor- mance of ENIF when the segmentation step is incorporated into the algorithm.

Influence of graphene nanoplatelet incorporation and dispersion state on thermal, mechanical and electrical properties of biodegradable matrices

Graphene nanoplatelets （GNPs） were used as multifunctional nanofiller to enhance thermal and mechanical properties as well as electrical conductivity of two different biodegradable thermoplastics： poly lactide （PLA） and poly （butylene adipate-co-terephthalate）（PBAT）. Morphological investigations showed different levels of GNP dispersion in the two matrices, and consequently physical properties of the two systems exhibited dissimilar behaviours with GNP incorporation. Crystallinity of PLA, determined from differential scanning calorimetry, was observed to increase markedly with addition of GNPs in contrast to the decrease in crystallinity of PBAT. Isothermal and non-isothermal thermogravimetric analyses also revealed a more significant delay in thermal decomposition of PLA upon addition of GNPs compared to that of PBAT. Furthermore, results showed that increasing GNP content of PLA and PBAT nanocomposites influenced their Young＇s modulus and electrical conductivity in different ways. Modulus of PBAT increased continuously with increasing GNP loading while that of PLA reached a maximum at 9wt% GNPs and then decreased. Moreover, despite the higher conductivity of pure PBAT compared to pure PLA, conductivity of PLA/GNP nanocomposites overtook that of PBATIGNP nanocomposites above a certain GNP concentration. This demonstrated the determining effect of nanoplatelets dispersion state on the matrices properties.
