A key issue in orogenic research today is the recognition and explanation of normal faulting in the heart of collisional mountain belts. The active Himalayan system remains an ideal locality for studying this phenomenon, both as e—W synconvergent extension of the Tibetan plateau and normal motion on the south Tibetan Detachment system (sTDs). However, these processes are difficult to correlate with the evolution of the northwest Himalaya, particularly the Nanga Parbat syntaxis where a Neogene tectono\|thermal overprint partially obscures the early collisional history. An integrated programme of structural mapping, petrography, thermobarometry and isotopic dating is presented that places important constraints on both the early\| and pre\|Himalayan evolution of the syntaxis. These data include evidence for synconvergent, ductile extension predating syntaxis development, and improved isotopic correlation of the tectonic units with the familiar central Himalayan thrust sheets, building on the work of Whittington et al (1999).Recent studies have focused on the rapid exhumation of the Nanga Parbat\|Haramosh Massif (NPHM) during the last 10Ma, and the related Neogene thermal effects dominating the core of the massif (e.g. Zeitler et al. 1982, 1993). However, the degree of both structural and metamorphic Neogene overprinting varies within the massif, becoming weaker away from the summit region. In addition, the considerable variation in rock\|type outside the gneissic core results in both strain partitioning and various degrees of metamorphic reworking. Thus several workers (e.g. Wheeler et al. 1995) could reconstruct elements of the early and pre\|Himalayan history from field relations and mineral assemblages virtually untouched by Neogene processes. The eastern margin of the massif, in contrast to the active western margin, has remained largely unchanged during the Neogene, except for essentially passive rotation on the limb of the major syntaxial antiform. We reported here the first known case of natural infection of a lion(Panthera leo-Linnaeus,1738) with Leishmania(Leithmania) chagasi(***) in *** specimen was created by a circus handler in the state of Mato Grosso and was donated to the zoological park of the Federal University of Mato *** by *** was detected using a PCR-RFLP *** was known that the domestic felids can act as reservoir of infection of *** in endemic areas, making it important that studies demonstrate their participation in the epidemiological chain. We demonstrate in this work that wild animals can have an important role in the epidemiological chain and must be considered in order to plan methods of control of this zoonosis.

Flow behavior and fracture of Al−Mg−si alloy at cryogenic temperatures

The tensile and fracture behaviors of aa6061 alloy were investigated in order to provide quantitative data about this alloy at cryogenic *** of aa6061 alloy were solution heat treated before tensile tests at 298,173 and 77 K and tested at strain rates in the range from 0.1 to 0.0001 s^(−1).The results indicate the suppression of the Portevin−Le Chatelier(PLC)effect and dynamic strain aging(DsA)at 77 *** contrast,at 298 K,a remarkable serrated flow,characteristic of the PLC effect,is ***,the tensile behavior at 77 K,compared with that observed at 173 and 298 K,shows a simultaneous increase in strength,uniform elongation,modulus of toughness,strain-hardening exponent and strain rate sensitivity,which is related to a decrease in the dynamic recovery rate at low *** responses are reflected on the fracture morphology,since the dimple size decreases at 77 K,while the area covered by dimples *** of the Johnson−Cook model show that a good agreement can be obtained for tests at 173 and 77 K,in which DsA is suppressed.

An Initiative Learning Algorithm Based on system Uncertainty

Initiative-learning algorithms are characterized by and hence advantageousfor their independence of prior domain knowledge. Usually, their induced results could moreobjectively express the potential characteristics and patterns of information ***-learning processes can be effectively conducted by system uncertainty, becauseuncertainty is an intrinsic common feature of and also an essential link between information systemsand their induced results. Obviously, the effectiveness of such initiative-learning framework isheavily dependent on the accuracy of system uncertainty measurements. Herein, a more reasonablemethod for measuring system uncertainty is developed based on rough set theory and the conception ofinformation entropy; then a new algorithm is developed on the bases of the new system uncertaintymeasurement and the skowron's algorithm for mining prepositional default decision rules. Theproposed algorithm is typically initiative-learning. It is well adaptable to system uncertainty. Asshown by simulation experiments, its comprehensive performances are much better than those ofcongeneric algorithms.

effects of plant-soil feedback on tree seedling growth under arid conditions

Plants are able to influence their growing environment by changing biotic and abiotic soil *** soil conditions in turn can influence plant growth conditions,which is called plant–soil ***–soil feedback is known to be operative in a wide variety of ecosystems ranging from temperate grasslands to tropical rain ***,little is known about how it operates in arid *** examined the role of plant–soil feedbacks on tree seedling growth in relation to water availability as occurring in arid ecosystems along the west coast of south *** In a two-phased greenhouse experiment,we compared plant–soil feedback effects under three water levels(no water,10%gravimetric moisture and 15%gravimetric moisture).We used sterilized soil inoculated with soil collected from northwest Peru(Prosopis pallida forests)and from two sites in north-central Chile(Prosopis chilensis forest and scrublands without ***).Important Findings Plant–soil feedbacks differed between plant species and soil origins,but water availability did not influence the feedback ***–soil feedbacks differed in direction and strength in the three soil origins ***–soil feedbacks of plants grown in Peruvian forest soil were negative for leaf biomass and positive for root *** contrast,feedbacks were neutral for plants growing in Chilean scrubland soil and positive for leaf biomass for those growing in Chilean forest *** results show that under arid conditions,effects of plant–soil feedback depend upon ***,the results suggest that plant–soil feedback can influence trade-offs between root growth and leaf biomass investment and as such that feedback interactions between plants and soil biota can make plants either more tolerant or vulnerable to *** on dissecting plant–soil feedbacks into aboveground and belowground tissue responses,we conclude that plant–soil feedback can enhance plant colonization in some arid eco

Dioxin-like molecules have been associated with endocrine disruption and liver *** better understand aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AHR)biology,metabolic phenotyping and liver proteomics were performed in mice following ligand-activation or whole-body genetic ablation of this *** wild type(WT)and Ahr^(-/-) mice(Taconic)were fed a control diet and exposed to 3,3',4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl(PCB126)(61 nmol/kg by gavage)or vehicle for two ***126 increased expression of canonical AHR targets(Cyp1 a1 and Cyp1 a2)in WT but not Ahr^(-/-).Knockouts had increased adiposity with decreased glucose tolerance;smaller livers with increased steatosis and perilipin-2;and paradoxically decreased blood ***126 was associated with increased hepatic triglycerides in Ahr^(-/-).The liver proteome was impacted more so by Ahr^(-/-) genotype than ligandactivation,but top gene ontology(GO)processes were *** PCB126-associated liver proteome was *** principally regulated liver metabolism(e.g.,lipids,xenobiotics,organic acids)and bioenergetics,but it also impacted liver endocrine response(e.g.,the insulin receptor)and function,including the production of steroids,hepatokines,and pheromone binding *** effects could have been indirectly mediated by interacting transcription factors or *** biologic roles of the AHR and its ligands warrant more research in liver metabolic health and disease.

Alcoholic liver disease(ALD)comprises a spectrum of liver pathology,including steatosis,steatohepatitis,and *** work from our group and others suggests that dietary fat,both the amount and composition,plays a pivotal role in ALD development and progression;however,the impact of specific dietary fatty acids on ALD pathogenesis is not fully *** rodent models of ALD revealed the deleterious effects of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids(n-6 PUFAs),specifically linoleic acid(LA),and this may be partially attributed to the increased levels of pro-inflammatory oxidized LA *** is limited understanding regarding the role of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(n-3 PUFAs,such as alpha-linolenic acid,eicosapentaenoic acid,and docosahexaenoic acid),and bioactive n-3 PUFAderived lipid molecules in *** that majority of n-6 and n-3 PUFAs-derived metabolites are potent endogenous signaling molecules,knowledge regarding the changes in these lipid mediators may shed new light on the mechanisms contributing to ALD pathogenesis and reveal novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers of this *** current review summarizes relevant scientific literature regarding the role of dietary fat,distinct fatty acids,and bioactive fatty acid metabolites in ALD,and highlights recent advances in the field.
