We screened growth differentiation factor 9(GDF9)coding regions for mutations in a Chinese sample of 100 women with premature ovarian failure(POF)and discovered 4 novel SNPs: c.436C>T(***146Cys),c.588A>C(silent),c.712A>G(***238A1a)and c.1283G>C(***428Thr). Non-synonymous SNPs c.436C>T and c.1283G>C were also detected in the control *** c.712A>G perturbation results in a missense mutation(***238A1a)and was not present in any of 96 *** of the hydrophobic amino acid residue alanine for hydrophilic threonine may disrupt GDF9 function.

NANOS3 encodes an RNA binding protein and has a conserved function in germ cell *** objective was to investigate whether mutations in NANOS3 were present in Chinese and Caucasian women with premature ovarian failure(POF).A known synonymous single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)(rs 2016163)in exon 1 was identified through sequencing 80 Chinese and 88 Caucasian women with *** additional SNPs or mutations were found in exons encoding for NANOS3. Our findings suggest that mutations in NANOS3 exons are rare in both Chinese and Caucasian women with POF.

Blastocystis in ulcerative colitis patients:Genetic diversity and analysis of laboratory findings

Objective:To determine Blastocystis frequency and subtypes(ST) in ulcerative colitis(UC) patients and analyse some laboratory findings between Blastocystis positive and negative ***:Faecal samples from 150 UC patients in Adnan Menderes University,Training and Research Hospital were examined by direct microscopy and cultivated in Jones *** positive cultures were subjected to DNA isolation and subtypes were identified by sequencing of barcode region.A retrospective analysis was conducted on C reactive protein(CRP),leukocyte counts(WBC),neutrophil counts,and sedimentation ***:The overall positive rate of Blastocystis was 8%(12 patients) and the most abundant subtype was ST3(eight isolates,66.7%),followed by ST1,ST2 and *** findings between Blastocystis infected and non-infected UC patients were not significantly *** was 3.8% among the patients in active stage,while it was 11.8% among the patients in remission ***:The present study confirms previous findings that have indicated the predominance of Blastocystis ST3 in humans and contributes additional evidence that suggests the low colonization of Blastocystis infection in ulcerative colitis patients during active stage.

Biological parameters and feeding behaviour of invasive whelk Rapana venosa Valenciennes,1846 in the south-eastern Black Sea of Turkey

Objective:To determine length-weight relationships,growth type and feeding behavior of the benthic predator Rapa whelk at the coast of Camburnu,south-eastern Black ***:Rapa whelk was monthly collected by dredge sampling on the south-eastern Black Sea at 20 m *** relationships between morphometric parameters of Rapa whelk were described by linear and exponential *** allometric growth of each variable relative to shell length(SL)was calculated from the function Y=aSL^(b) or logY=loga_(+)*** functional regression b values were tested by t-test at the 0.05 significance level if it was significantly different from isometric *** total time spent on feeding either on mussel tissue or live mussels was recorded for each individual under controlled conditions in ***:The length-weight relationships showed positive allometric growth and no inter-sex *** size in the male population was significantly higher than in the individuals of the *** characters in males and females showed a trend towards allometry rather than *** the total time spent feeding increased with increasing prey size the total time that Rapana venosa spent feeding decreased with increasing Rapa whelk *** total average feeding time needed by Rapa whelks was 160 *** they took 310 min on live mussels in 27-28℃ in the laboratory ***:Length and weight relationships,growth type,total time spent feeding of this species were explained in details for this *** would be useful to sustainable management in the south-eastern Black Sea of *** results about the feeding behaviour of this species will contribute to the understanding of the role of this species within the ecosystem.
