An effective-field theory study of hexagonal Ising nanowire: Thermal and magnetic properties

By means of the effective-field theory （EFT） with correlations, the thermodynamic and magnetic quantities （such as magnetization, susceptibility, internal energy, specific heat, free energy, hysteresis curves, and compensation behaviors） of the spin-l/2 hexagonal Ising nanowire （HIN） system with core/shell structure have been presented. The hysteresis curves are obtained for different values of the system parameters, in both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic cases. It has been shown that the system only undergoes a second-order phase transition. Moreover, from the thermal variations of the total magnetization, the five compensation types can be found under certain conditions, namely the Q-, R-, S-, P-, and N-types.

Thermodynamic properties and phase diagrams of a mixed spin-(1,2) Ising ferrimagnetic system with single ion anisotropy on hexagonal nanowire are studied by using effective-field theory with correlations. The susceptibility,internal energy and specific heat of the system are numerically examined and some interesting phenomena in these quantities are found. The effect of the Hamiltonian parameters on phase diagrams are examined in detail. Besides second-order phase transition, lines of first-order transition and tricritical points are found. In particular, we found that for some negative values of single-ion anisotropies, there exist first-order phase transitions.

Heart valve diseases affect more than one hundred million people around the world,which are a serious cause of illness and mortality.[1]Among the valve diseases,mitral valve insufficiency ranks second in the list of valve diseases requiring surgical repair in Europe.[2]Prosthetic valve replacement is the standard treatment in cases where repair is not sufficient for valve diseases.[3]Mechanical and bioprosthetic valves can be preferred for replacement,mechanical valves are more durable and require lifelong use of anticoagulants.The disadvantage of bioprosthetic valves is early degeneration,and infective reoperation is required due to the formation of endocarditis.[4-5]The risk of thromboembolism,lifetime anticoagulant use and complications related to anticoagulation remain disadvantages of valve surgery.[3]The most important complication requiring urgent intervention is valve dysfunction due to thrombosis.It usually occurs due to inappropriate use of the anticoagulants.[6]Surgical treatment is used for severe obstructions,such as thrombi larger than 10 mm.Thrombolytic therapy can be applied in small thrombi and in cases where surgical intervention is risky.

Glycogen storage diseases(GSDs),also referred to as glycogenoses,are inherited metabolic disorders of glycogen metabolism caused by deficiency of enzymes or transporters involved in the synthesis or degradation of glycogen leading to aberrant storage and/or utilization.The overall estimated GSD incidence is 1 case per 20000-43000 live births.There are over 20 types of GSD including the subtypes.This heterogeneous group of rare diseases represents inborn errors of carbohydrate metabolism and are classified based on the deficient enzyme and affected tissues.GSDs primarily affect liver or muscle or both as glycogen is particularly abundant in these tissues.However,besides liver and skeletal muscle,depending on the affected enzyme and its expression in various tissues,multiorgan involvement including heart,kidney and/or brain may be seen.Although GSDs share similar clinical features to some extent,there is a wide spectrum of clinical phenotypes.Currently,the goal of treatment is to maintain glucose homeostasis by dietary management and the use of uncooked cornstarch.In addition to nutritional interventions,pharmacological treatment,physical and supportive therapies,enzyme replacement therapy(ERT)and organ transplantation are other treatment approaches for both disease manifestations and longterm complications.The lack of a specific therapy for GSDs has prompted efforts to develop new treatment strategies like gene therapy.Since early diagnosis and aggressive treatment are related to better prognosis,physicians should be aware of these conditions and include GSDs in the differential diagnosis of patients with relevant manifestations including fasting hypoglycemia,hepatomegaly,hypertransaminasemia,hyperlipidemia,exercise intolerance,muscle cramps/pain,rhabdomyolysis,and muscle weakness.Here,we aim to provide a comprehensive review of GSDs.This review provides general characteristics of all types of GSDs with a focus on those with liver involvement.

The disciplines of evolutionary biology and plant and animal breeding have been intertwined throughout their development,with responses to artificial selection yielding insights into the action of natural selection and evolutionary biology providing statistical and conceptual guidance for modern breeding.Here we offer an evolutionary perspective on a grand challenge of the 21st century:feeding humanity in the face of climate change.We first highlight promising strategies currently under way to adapt crops to current and future climate change.These include methods to match crop varieties with current and predicted environments and to optimize breeding goals,management practices,and crop microbiomes to enhance yield and sustainable production.We also describe the promise of crop wild relatives and recent technological innovations such as speed breeding,genomic selection,and genome editing for improving environmental resilience of existing crop varieties or for developing new crops.Next,we discuss how methods and theory from evolutionary biology can enhance these existing strategies and suggest novel approaches.We focus initially on methods for reconstructing the evolutionary history of crops and their pests and symbionts,because such historical information provides an overall framework for crop-improvement efforts.We then describe how evolutionary approaches can be used to detect and mitigate the accumulation of deleterious mutations in crop genomes,identify alleles and mutations that underlie adaptation(and maladaptation)to agricultural environments,mitigate evolutionary trade-offs,and improve critical proteins.Continuing feedback between the evolution and crop biology communities will ensure optimal design of strategies for adapting crops to climate change.

Unlocking offshore wind farms’high energy generation potential requires a comprehensive multi-disciplinary analysis that consists of intensive technical,economic,logistical,and environmental investigations.Offshore wind energy projects have high investment volumes that make it essential to conduct extensive site selection to ensure feasible investment decisions that reduce the potential financial risks.Depending on the scenario and circumstances,a ranking of alternative offshore wind energy projects helps to prioritise the investment decisions.Decisionmaking algorithms based on expert knowledge can support the prioritisation and thus alleviate the work load for investment decisions in the future.The case study considered here is to find the best site for a floating offshore wind farm in Norway from four pre-selected alternatives:Utsira Nord,Stadthavet,Froyabanken,and Trana Vest.We propose a hybrid decisionmaking model as a combined compromised solution(CoCoSo)based on the q-rung orthopair fuzzy sets(q-ROFSs)including the weighted q-rung orthopair fuzzy Hamacher average(Wq-ROFHA)and the weighted q-rung orthopair fuzzy Hamacher geometric mean(Wq-ROFHGM)operators.In this model,the q-ROFSs based full consistency method(FUCOM)is introduced as a new methodology to determine the weights of the decision criteria.The results of the proposed model show that the best site among the investigated four alternatives is A1:Utsira Nord.A sensitivity analysis has verified the stability of the proposed decision-making model.

Hollow blocks are used widely in buildings for their lightweight construction and high thermal resistance charac-teristics.When used with a phase change material(PCM),these blocks can reduce the heating and cooling loads of buildings compared to conventional hollow blocks.However,it is essential that the block inner forms and PCMs should be selected based on climate conditions.In this study,hollow blocks containing PCM in different climate types are thermally analysed.In the first step,ten different formed blocks are thermally analysed.In these blocks,the effects of hollow ratio(HR),inner form,and the number of cavities on heat flux and temperature distribution are investigated.The inner form of the hollow block with the least heat flux is determined in this step.The second step consists of optimization for the PCM melting temperature and layer thickness for the different provinces.The optimization results are evaluated on a building in terms of primary energy consumption and global costs.The best performing locations of the PCMs within the block are defined for all provinces in the last step.The results of the study are discussed in terms of the block surface temperatures and liquid fraction.The best PCM locations are found close to the block’s centerline in hot and warm climates and close to the indoor side in cold climates.

This study investigated the similarity of the catchments with the k-means clustering method by using the hydrological response unit(HRU)images of 33 catchments located in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey.HRUs are the unit cells in hydrological models and these units are important because the same HRUs have the same hydrological behavior regarding weather inputs and water runoff.Catchments that reside inside a cluster will have high hydrological similarity,the catchments of two separate clusters would be dissimilar to each other.With the help of the clustered catchments,an elimination process can be conducted that can save time and effort in basin selection for future hydrological studies.In the study,the basic process sequence was carried out in 5 steps.These steps were creating HRUs,assigning a color to HRUs,creating HRU images,image embedding,and k-means clustering respectively.Silhouette and multidimensional scaling plots were sketched to visually examine the quality of intra-cluster distribu-tions.Considering the silhouette score values,the optimum number of clusters was determined as 8,and the clustered catchments were illustrated on the study area.

Machine Learning and Classical Forecasting Methods Based Decision Support Systems for COVID-19

From late 2019 to the present day,the coronavirus outbreak tragically affected the whole world and killed tens of thousands of people.Many countries have taken very stringent measures to alleviate the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and are still being implemented.In this study,various machine learning techniques are implemented to predict possible confirmed cases and mortality numbers for the future.According to these models,we have tried to shed light on the future in terms of possible measures to be taken or updating the current measures.Support Vector Machines(SVM),Holt-Winters,Prophet,and Long-Short Term Memory(LSTM)forecasting models are applied to the novel COVID-19 dataset.According to the results,the Prophet model gives the lowest Root Mean Squared Error(RMSE)score compared to the other three models.Besides,according to this model,a projection for the future COVID-19 predictions of Turkey has been drawn and aimed to shape the current measures against the coronavirus.
