Investigation of Li-ion transport in Li7P3S11 and solid-state lithium batteries

The high Li-ion conductivity of the Li7P3S11 sulfide-based solid electrolyte makes it a promising candidate for all-solid-state lithium batteries. The Li-ion transport over electrode-electrolyte and electrolyteelectrolyte interfaces, vital for the performance of solid-state batteries, is investigated by impedance spectroscopy and solid-state NMr experiments. An all-solid-state Li-ion battery is assembled with the Li7P3S11 electrolyte, nano-Li2S cathode and Li-In foil anode, showing a relatively large initial discharge capacity of 1139.5 m Ah/g at a current density of 0.064 m A/cm^ 2 retaining 850.0 m Ah/g after 30 cycles. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy suggests that the decrease in capacity over cycling is due to the increased interfacial resistance between the electrode and the electrolyte. 1D exchange ^7Li NMr quantifies the interfacial Li-ion transport between the uncycled electrode and the electrolyte, resulting in a diffusion coefficient of 1.70(3) ×10^-14cm^2/s at 333 K and an energy barrier of 0.132 e V for the Li-ion transport between Li2S cathode and Li7P3S11 electrolyte. This indicates that the barrier for Li-ion transport over the electrode-electrolyte interface is small. however, the small diffusion coefficient for Li-ion diffusion between the Li2S and the Li7P3S11 suggests that these contact interfaces between electrode and electrolyte are relatively scarce, challenging the performance of these solid-state batteries.

Scavenger receptor BI: A multi-purpose player in cholesterol and steroid metabolism

Scavenger receptor class B type Ⅰ (Sr-BI) is an important member of the scavenger receptor family of integral membrane glycoproteins. This review highlights studies in Sr-BI knockout mice, which concern the role of Sr-BI in cholesterol and steroid metabolism. Sr-BI in hepatocytes is the sole molecule involved in selective uptake of cholesteryl esters from high-density lipoprotein (hDL). Sr-BI plays a physiological role in binding and uptake of native apolipoprotein B (apoB)-containing lipoproteins by hepatocytes, which identif ies Sr-BI as a multipurpose player in lipid uptake from the blood circulation into hepatocytes in mice. In adrenocortical cells, Sr-BI mediates the selective uptake of hDL-cholesteryl esters, which is eff iciently coupled to the synthesis of glucocorticoids (i.e. corticosterone). Sr-BI knockout mice suffer from adrenal glucocorticoid insuff iciency, which suggests that functional Sr-BI protein is necessary for optimal adrenal steroidogenesis in mice. Sr-BI in macrophages plays a dual role in cholesterol metabolism as it is able to take up cholesterol associated with hDL and apoBcontaining lipoproteins and can possibly facilitate cholesterol efflux to hDL. Absence of Sr-BI is associated with thrombocytopenia and altered thrombosis susceptibility, which suggests a novel role for Sr-BI in regulating platelet number and function in mice. Transgenic expression of cholesteryl ester transfer protein in humanized Sr-BI knockout mice normalizes hepatic delivery of hDL-cholesteryl esters. however, other pathologies associated with Sr-BI def iciency, i.e. increased atherosclerosis susceptibility, adrenal glucocorticoid insuffi ciency, and impaired platelet function are not normalized, which suggests an important role for Sr-BI in cholesterol and steroid metabolism in man. In conclusion, generation of Sr-BI knockout mice has signif icantly contributed to our knowledge of the physiological role of Sr-BI. Studies using these mice have identif ied Sr-BI as a

Analyzing the activities of visitors of the Leiden ranking website

Understanding Genetic Load in Potato for hybrid Diploid Breeding

recently, Zhang et al.(2019) have managed to provide abundant evidence to support long-held theories regarding mechanisms of inbreeding depression and potential effects of heterosis that are likely to have a considerable impact on potato breeding in the future (Figure 1). Despite its large genetic variation regarding yield, harvest index, and water use efficiency, potato breeding has attained only negligible advances in the most important breeding goals such as yield, tuber quality, and abiotic stress tolerance, and only modest progress in pathogen resistance. This low level of improvement is clearly due to the complexity of breeding a heterozygous tetraploid outbreeder rather than to the lack of genetic potential available in wild and cultivated material. In contrast, breeding at the diploid level, in particular in combination with self-compatibility, will allow the fixation of beneficial alleles to homozygosity.

The Or Gene Enhances Carotenoid Accumulation and Stability During Post-harvest Storage of Potato Tubers

Provitamin A carotenoids in staple crops are not very stable during storage and their loss compromises nutritional quality. To elucidate the fundamental mechanisms underlying carotenoid accumulation and stability, we investigated transgenic potato tubers that expressed the cauliflower Orange （Or） gene. We found that the Or transgene not only promoted retention of 13-carotene level, but also continuously stimulated its accumulation during 5 months of cold storage. In contrast, no increased levels of carotenoids were observed in the tubers of vector-only controls or a yellow- flesh variety during the same period of storage. The increased carotenoid accumulation was found to be associated with the formation of lipoprotein-carotenoid sequestering structures, as well as with the enhanced abundance of phytoene synthase, a key enzyme in the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway. Furthermore, the provitamin A carotenoids stored were shown to be stable during simulated digestion and accessible for uptake by human intestinal absorptive cells. Proteomic analysis identified three major functional groups of proteins （i.e. heat shock proteins, glutathione-S-transferases, and carbohydrate metabolic proteins） that are potentially important in the Or-regulated carotenoid accumulation. Our results show that regulation of carotenoid sequestration capacity is an important mechanism by which carotenoid stability is regulated. Our findings suggest that induction of a proper sink structure formation in staple crops may provide the crops with a unique ability to promote and/or stabilize provitamin A accumulation during plant growth and post-harvest storage.

前交叉韧带(Anterior Cruciate Ligament,ACL)解剖重建技术是基于ACL解剖理论发展起来的一项手术技术。ACL解剖重建是根据ACL的解剖特点进行功能重建,恢复ACL原有的尺寸、韧带胶原走行方向和止点位置。解剖重建不仅包括双束和单束重建,而且包括以此理论为基础的ACL重建术后的翻修与加固。本文对ACL的解剖重建技术进行介绍,针对在关节镜下如何观察原ACL的止点位置,测量止点长宽,选择骨道位置,如何利用影像学进行评价进行了详细的阐述和解释,并介绍了该技术目前的临床评价结果。同时,本文对ACL解剖重建和传统"经典"重建方法的区别进行了重点说明与解释,为提高国内医师对ACL解剖重建技术的认识提供参考和帮助。
