Spinal cord injury results in paralysis, sensory disturbances, sphincter dysfunction, and multiple systemic secondary conditions, most arising from autonomic dysregulation. All this produces profound negative psychosocial implications for affected people, their families, and their communities;the financial costs can be challenging for their families and health institutions. Treatments aimed at restoring the spinal cord after spinal cord injury, which have been tested in animal models or clinical trials, generally seek to counteract one or more of the secondary mechanisms of injury to limit the extent of the initial damage. Most published works on structural/functional restoration in acute and chronic spinal cord injury stages use a single type of treatment: a drug or trophic factor, transplant of a cell type, and implantation of a biomaterial. Despite the significant benefits reported in animal models, when translating these successful therapeutic strategies to humans, the result in clinical trials has been considered of little relevance because the improvement, when present, is usually insufficient. Until now, most studies designed to promote neuroprotection or regeneration at different stages after spinal cord injury have used single treatments. Considering the occurrence of various secondary mechanisms of injury in the acute and sub-acute phases of spinal cord injury, it is reasonable to speculate that more than one therapeutic agent could be required to promote structural and functional restoration of the damaged spinal cord. Treatments that combine several therapeutic agents, targeting different mechanisms of injury, which, when used as a single therapy, have shown some benefits, allow us to assume that they will have synergistic beneficial effects. This study combines the thermodynamic analysis of a polygeneration system along with the numerical modelling of the thermal behavior of geothermal reservoirs in Mexico to exploit their *** reservoir was modeled as a porous medium assuming a five-spot well configuration and local thermal *** heat conduction-convection along with the Laplace equations were solved to compute temperature distributions,the useful life and the optimum distance between injection-extraction *** predicted temperature and pressure of the geothermal fluid at the outlet of the reservoir were exploited in the polygeneration system consisting of:(1)a Rankine cycle,(2)an absorption refrigeration cycle,and(3)a heat *** developed approach allows calculating both the optimal distance between injection-extraction wells and the global(utilization)efficiency of six arrangements(each composed by a reservoir connected to a polygeneration system)by assuming that reservoirs have a lifespan of 30 *** also show that:(a)due to the low efficiency of the Rankine cycle,very little thermal energy is converted into electrical one;(b)not only the temperature and the size are important when evaluating the power production performance of reservoirs,but also the permeability plays a fundamental role;(c)the first law efficiency of the polygeneration system ranges from 41.9%to 43.7%;(d)the utilization efficiency of the six arrangements lies in the range between 25.8%and 31%.

To find if ornamental plants are applicable to the remediation of metal-polluted areas, the tolerance of chrysanthemum plants （chysanthemum maximum） var. Shasta to different metals under hydroponic conditions was studied. Their responses as influenced by the mycorrhizal fungus Glomus mosseae （Nicol. ＆ Gerd.） Gerdemann ＆ Trappe BEG25 on substrates containing mine residues were also investigated. Our results showed that chrysanthemum is a metal-tolerant plant under hydroponic conditions, plants behaving as Pb-excluders, whereas Cd, Cu and Ni were accumulated in roots. Low accumulation in flowers was observed for Cd and Cu but it was concentration-dependent. Ni and Pb were not translocated to flowers. Shoot biomass was not significantly affected by the different rates of mine residue addition for both mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal plants. Mycorrhizal plants accumulated less Pb and Cu in both shoots and roots than non-mycorrhizal plants. chysanthemum could be a prospective plant for revegetation of tailings and the use of inoculation may decrease plant metal accumulation in polluted soils.

Assessment of maximal fat oxidation rate(MFO)during a submaximal exercise test has been employed by many studies to investigate the differences in metabolic flexibility(MetFlex)across several ***,many incorrect assumptions and methodological limitations exist in the procedures employed by previous studies,which might lead to misinterpretation of the reported *** the data retrieved from 19 trained men(Age:[27±4]years;%Body fat:[16.4±4.5]%;maximal oxygen consumption:[55.8±5.3]mL·kg^(−1)·min^(−1))who performed a graded exercise test over a motor-driven treadmill,this opinion paper shows that MFO alone does not perfectly capture the MetFlex in response to submaximal intensity exercise and recommend a novel index that considers both fat oxidation and energy expenditure modifications for an accurate examination of MetFlex.

This research presents the influence of copper(Cu) concentration on the properties of copper zinc tin sulfide(CZTS) nanoparticles(NPs) synthesized by a colloidal method, employing oleylamine as an organic solvent. From the structural analysis, a pure phase of CZTS was obtained at an optimized molar ratio of 1.8:1.1:1:4,and secondary phases were observed as the Cu concentration increased. The increment of the NPs size from 15 to50 nm was noticed as a function of Cu ***, the optical bandgap energy was tuned from1.35 to 1.68 eV with respect to Cu concentration. The sample synthesized at the molar ratio of 1.8:1.1:1:4 showed a pure phase CZTS with desired elemental composition and bandgap. Furthermore, CZTS thin films were prepared by a doctor-blade method using synthesized NPs followed by annealing under a sulfur/nitrogen atmosphere. The annealed CZTS film showed a significant improvement in the morphological, electrical and optoelectronic ***, the annealed CZTS film can be efficiently used as an absorber layer in low-cost thin film solar cells.

In this study,an approach that integrates airborne imagery data as inputs was used to improve the estimation of soil water deficit(SWD)for maize and sunflower grown under full and deficit irrigation *** proposed model was applied to optimize the maximum total available soil water(TAWr)by minimizing the difference between a water stress coefficient ks and crop water stress index(1-CWSI).The optimal value of maximum TAWr was then used to calibrate a soil water balance model which in turn updated the estimation of soil water *** estimates of SWD in the soil profile of both irrigated maize and sunflower fields were evaluated with the crop root zone SWD derived from neutron probe measurements and the FAO-56 SWD *** results indicated a good agreement between the estimated SWD from the proposed approach and measured SWD for both maize and *** statistical analyses indicated that the maximum TAWr estimated from CWSI significantly improved the estimates of SWD,which reduced the mean absolute error(MAE)and root mean square error(RMSE)by 40%and 44%for maize and 22%for sunflower,compared with the FAO-56 *** proposed procedure works better for crops under deficit irrigation *** the availability of higher spatial and temporal resolution airborne imagery during the growing season,the optimization procedure can be further improved.

Spent mushroom substrate(SMS)is an abundant residue generated by the mushroom industry,which is mostly *** this study,the SMS of four cultivated mushrooms were evaluated as potential sources of ligninolytic *** ostreatus,***,*** and Ganoderma lucidum were cultivated in two different substrates to determine growth,mushroom yields and ligninolytic activity of laccase(Lac)and manganese peroxidase(MnP).Maximum activities in the SMS were 3.731 U/g Lac and 0.191 U/g MnP,both for *** mushroom substrates were also analyzed,and higher activities were found in almost all samples.A correlation test between mushroom yields and ligninolytic activities of each culture was made,and we found that high enzymatic activity in the substrate did not result in high mushroom productivity or vice *** SMS was a good source of ligninolytic *** activity depended on the mushroom species and its affinity to the substrate,and it was not influenced by the mushroom *** of mushrooms in diverse lignocellulosic substrates is gaining interest,and ob-taining ligninolytic enzymes from residual SMS is an excellent alternative in the circular economy concept.

Epithelioid sarcoma(ES), a mesenchymatous malign neoformation, is often diagnosed in later stages and associated with high recurrence index, metastasis and mortality. We report a case of a 65 years old male, with history of abdominal pain and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Endoscopy demonstrated a posterior duodenal wall perforation communicating with a solid retroperitoneal neoformation. Endoscopic biopsy was performed, with a final report of ES. The patient was submitted for surgical palliation due to the tumor's unresectability. Retroperitoneal ES is an extremely rare condition with limited reports in the literature where guidelines for its optimal treatment are not well established.
