Annual energy consumption and annual Global Warming Potential （GWP） decreases with the improving of the energy performance of the facade, whereas the embodied energy and embodied GWP increases due to the extra material and products applied. This study analyses the relation between the embodied energy and the energy consumption of a house during the life span of the buildings, and the results represented separately in tables and figures. The study uses Life Cycle Assessment （LCA） framework as a tool to conduct a partial LCA, from cradle to site of the construction and energy consumption during usage phase of the buildings with three different wall types through 50 years usage phase. According to this study, laminated timber and aerated concrete are better choices than cast concrete for both types of buildings because of lower density and lower U value.

In this study, an education and application interface was designed for model predictive control (MPC). For this design, MPC Toolbox and MATLAB GUI in the MATLAB software were used. Developed interface includes model predictive control methods, such as single-input single-output, multi-input multi-output, constrained or unconstrained systems. The interface, developed for education of model predictive control methods, was tested in class by the students attending to the Process Dynamic and Control course.

BACKGROUND:Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)is a chronic cholestatic liver disease characterized by destruction and fibrosis of the bile *** study aimed to demonstrate the hepatic and extrahepatic characteristic findings and prognostic outcomes of Turkish patients with PSC. METHODS:The medical records of 35 consecutive patients with PSC from January 1988 to June 2007 were recorded *** the time of diagnosis,clinical features and laboratory data were collected. RESULTS:The mean age of the 35 patients was 41.69 years (range 15-80 years)at the time of diagnosis;14(40%)were female,and 21(60%)were *** mean duration of follow-up was 58.86 months(1-180 months).Twenty(57.1%) of the patients with PSC were asymptomatic and 22(62.9%) had inflammatory bowel *** the time of diagnosis, 20(57.1%)of the patients had both intra-and extra-hepatic ***-one(60%)of the patients,who had undergone ERCP for stent placement,had dominant bile duct stenosis. Cholangiocarcinoma was found in 2(5.7%)of the patients and cirrhosis was detected in 7(20%);5(14.3%)underwent liver *** median follow-up time after liver transplantation was 23 months and all are still *** (17.1%)patients died. CONCLUSIONS:PSC has a clinical course varied from advanced liver disease requiring liver transplantation within a short time to being asymptomatic for decades. The prognosis of Turkish patients with PSC is also disappointing as described in other studies.

Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is one of the most widely studied real world problems of finding the shortest (minimum cost) possible route that visits each node in a given set of nodes (cities) once and then returns to origin city. The optimization of cuboid areas has potential samples that can be adapted to real world. Cuboid surfaces of buildings, rooms, furniture etc. can be given as examples. Many optimization algorithms have been used in solution of optimization problems at present. Among them, meta-heuristic algorithms come first. In this study, ant colony optimization, one of meta-heuristic methods, is applied to solve Euclidian TSP consisting of nine different sized sets of nodes randomly placed on a cuboid surface. The performance of this method is shown in tests.

We read with interest the case report by Liu et al and the correspondence by Tuna et al regarding this case. Liu et al described hepatitis B virus(HBV) reactivation in a patient with non-Hodgkin's lymphomaafter withdrawal of lamivudine prophylaxis. When HBV reactivation was observed three months after lamivudine withdrawal, entecavir 0.5 mg daily was started. HBV DNA level was moderately elevated(104 copies/m L) at that time. So, we could not understand why a potent antiviral like entecavir was required for this case. In addition to this, entecavir must be used at a dose of 1 mg in patients with prior prophylactic treatment with lamivudine. As stated by Tuna et al duration of lamivudine prophylaxis in this case might be insufficient and HBV reactivation might have occured for this reason. So, we suppose that resolution of HBV reactivation might also be achieved with lamivudine instead of entecavir in this case.

Effect of transcatheter aortic valve implantation on QT dispersion in patients with aortic stenosis

Background QT dispersion （QTd） is a predictor of ventricular arrhythmia. Ventricular arrhythmia is an important factor influencing morbidity and mortality in patients with aortic stenosis. Surgical aortic valve replacement reduced the QTd in this patients group. However, the effect of transcatheter aortic valve implantation （TAVI） on QTd in patients with aortic stenosis is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of TAVI on QTd in patients with aortic stenosis. Methods Patients with severe aortic stenosis, who were not candi-dates for surgical aortic valve replacement due to contraindications or high surgical risk, were included in the study. All patients underwent electrocardiographic and echocardiographic evaluation before, and at the 6th month after TAVI, computed QTd and left ventricular mass index （LVMI）. Results A total 30 patients were admitted to the study （mean age 83.2 ± 1.0 years, female 21 and male 9, mean valve area 0.7 ± 3 mm2）. Edwards SAPIEN heart valves, 23 mm （21 patients） and 26 mm （9 patients）, by the transfemoral approach were used in the TAVI procedures. All TAVI procedures were successful. Both QTd and LVMI at the 6th month after TAVI were significantly reduced com-pared with baseline values of QTd and LVMI before TAVI （73.8 ± 4 ms vs. 68 ± 2 ms, P=0.001 and 198 ± 51 g/m2 vs. 184 ± 40 g/m2, P=0.04, respectively）. There was a significant correlation between QTd and LVMI （r=0.646, P〈0.001）. Conclusions QTd, which malign ventricular arrhythmia marker, and LVMI were significantly reduced after TAVI procedure. TAVI may decrease the possibility of ventricu-lar arrhythmia in patients with aortic stenosis.
