Most pancreatic cancer patients present with advanced metastatic disease, resulting in extremely poor 5-year survival, mainly because of the lack of a reliable modality for early detection and limited therapeutic options for advanced disease. Therefore, there is a need for minimally-invasive diagnostic tools for detecting pancreatic cancer at an early stage, when curative surgery and also novel therapeutic approaches including precision medicine may be feasible. The "liquid biopsy" addresses these unmet clinical needs based on the concept that simple peripheral blood sampling and detection of circulating tumor DNA(ct DNA) could provide diagnostic information. In this review, we provide an overview of the current status of bloodbased tests for diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and the potential utility of ct DNA for precision medicine. We also discuss challenges that remain to be addressed in developing practical ct DNA-based liquid biopsy approaches for early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal cancer type, for which there are few viable therapeutic options. But, with the advance of sequencing technologies for global genomic analysis, the landscape of genomic alterations in pancreatic cancer is becoming increasingly well understood. In this review, we summarize current knowledge of genomic alterations in 12 core signaling pathways or cellular processes in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, which is the most common type of malignancy in the pancreas, including four commonly mutated genes and many other genes that are mutated at low frequencies. We also describe the potential implications of these genomic alterations for development of novel therapeutic approaches in the context of personalized medicine.

Cultivation Features Using Meteorological and Satellite Data from 2001 to 2010 in Dakhla Oasis, Egypt

The differences between the oasis region and the regions of the Nile delta and Nile valley in Egypt are due mainly to the regions’ access to water. The oasis region depends on underground water, while the other regions rely on the Nile River. Numerous studies on cultivation in the Nile delta have been accumulated. However, few studies have addressed cultivation in the oasis region. This study examines cultivation throughout the government and local well districts using meteorological and satellite data from 2001 to 2010, and the interview in Rashda Village, Dakhla Oasis. Since the reference evapotranspiration (ET0) is lower in winter than in summer, cultivation in winter makes sense from the viewpoint of saving irrigation water. Evapotranspiration is highest in the order of date palm, rice paddy, winter wheat, and clover hay under sufficient wet conditions in Rashda Village. Cultivation features and water requirements were examined using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI). Results indicated a distinct difference in cultivation systems between the summer and winter seasons in the government well district. Water requirements for date palm in the local well district were 2.6 times those for winter plants in the government well district, using the accumulated NDWI value.

Broadly speaking, this study aims to develop ＂batik＂ dyes wastewater treatment technologies by hybrid process that combines Fenton oxidation and separation using ultrafiltration membranes. Specifically, the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of membrane characteristics, feed solution pH, operating pressure of ＂Dead-end＂ membrane reactor, and the frequency of membranes which uses on the percentage of COD reduction in ＂batik＂ wastewater. In this study, the filtrate from wastewater pre-treatment with Fenton oxidation, both without and with addition of activated carbon, is passed to the ultrafiltration （UF） separation system. Fenton oxidation process was carried out at optimum conditions, i.e. at pH 3, temperature 50 ℃, and the addition FeSO4·7H2O and H2O2 at 747-830 mg/L and 1,168-1,460 mg/L, respectively. The optimum reduction percentage of COD can be achieved when the membranes used for separation has a pore size of 0.01 to 0.015 lam, feed solution pH 2, operating pressure 1 atm and frequency of membranes uses I x. To determine the fouling potential on ultrafiltration membranes that are used, flux measurements were performed 3 times for each membrane. These stages can see that the flux decline reached 22.5% when the effluent filtered directly to the membrane; 17.3% when performed pre-treatment prior to separation processes using membranes and 10% when combined pre-treatment process, use of activated carbon and the separation using ultrafiltration membranes.

Background: Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Albania. According to Institute of Statistics of Albania (ISA), CHD remains in the 5 first places caused mortality and morbidity in our country. Currently, all the protocol treatments to Mother Teresa University Hospital (MTUH) are focused on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) as the primary target for risk reduction therapy, followed by triglycerides (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL). Our clinicians recommend that the intensity and target goals of LDL-C-lowering therapy should be adjusted to individual treatment. The choice of a specific drug from anti hypercholesterolemia class depends on several factors which need to be evaluated better from our health providers. Methods and Findings: Data was collected between 2007 to 2015 at Mother Teresa University Hospital (MTUH), Intensive Care Unit in Cardiology Clinic. 700 patients were treated with statins as follows: Fluvastain 40 mg and 80 mg, Atorvastatin 10 mg and 20 mg, Simvastatin and Rosuvastatin 20 mg. Statins are increased significantly during the years compared with fibrates. Their use grew from 87% of all statin types to 95% in 2015, with different types from fluvastatin in 2007 to atorvastatin being the leading medication in 2015. Coronary Heart Disease, especially Myocardium Infarct, were studied as diseases when meanly the hypolipidic drugs were usually used in medical protocol treatment. Statins and fibrates were the therapy target to be studied when statin dominated the patients’ treatment and fibrates were used in limited quantity. Atorvastatin is now dominating the market, while fluvastatin was on the first statin therapy for several years in the past. Fibrate were used in the modest quantities in value from 2% to 1.5% in years 2007 to 2015. The use of statins in moderate-risk and high-risk patients showed continued growth subsequently, but stable with dosage of atorvastatin 20 mg.

Relationships of Handgrip Strength with Menstruation-Related Symptoms in Female University Students in Japan

Introduction: Some somatic and psychological disorders have been associated with handgrip strength, which is an easy, inexpensive and noninvasive method for assessment of muscle strength. We conducted a cross-sectional study to clarify the relationship of handgrip strength and menstruation-related symptoms. Material and Methods: Handgrip strength was measured and a self-administered questionnaire was performed in female university students in Japan. Results: Handgrip strength did not significantly differ among the menstrual phases. The mean handgrip strength level (n = 260) was 26.0 ± 3.9 kg. We divided the subjects into three groups according to the handgrip strength level. Handgrip strength was associated with degrees of depression and anxiety during menstruation. Conclusion: This can be used as fundamental data in further clarifying the relationship between muscle strength and menstruation-related symptoms.

Associations between Sensitivity to Cold, Menstruation-Related Symptoms and Handgrip Strength in Female University Students in Japan

Sensitivity to cold, which is a popular symptom in Japanese women, is associated with various symptoms such as shoulder stiffness and general fatigue. However, an association of sensitivity to cold with muscle strength has not been reported. The aim of the study was to clarify the associations of sensitivity to cold with handgrip strength and with menstruation-related symptoms in female university students in Japan. We recruited 278 female university students in Japan. Sensitivity to cold and menstruation-related symptoms including physical and psychological symptoms were assessed by using a self-administered questionnaire that we designed. Handgrip strength was measured by using a handgrip strength dynamometer. We received responses from 269 students. The prevalence rate of sensitivity to cold in the subjects was 54.3%. The students who had sensitivity to cold had a lower handgrip strength level (25.5 ± 3.8 kg) than did the students who did not have sensitivity to cold (26.7 ± 3.9 kg) (p = 0.017). Sensitivity to cold was associated with low body mass index. In addition, the students who had sensitivity to cold tended to have low back pain and constipation during menstruation. In conclusion, sensitivity to cold is an important symptom associated with muscle strength as well as menstruation-related symptoms for young women.

Development of a Coil-Shape Photocatalysis-Plasma Synergistic Reactor for a Practical and Long-Term Usable Air-Cleaner

A novel air-cleaner with a coil-shape photocatalysis-plasma synergistic reactor was developed. The air-cleaner showed 95% ± 1% reduction of a TVOCs concentration in tobacco smoke at “single-pass” condition. Air-purification activity of the air-cleaner was stably-maintained after the treatment of 12,000 cigarettes of tobacco smoke.
