Chemical and microbiological characterization of tinctures and microcapsules loaded with Brazilian red propolis extract

The aim of this study was to characterize tinctures and microcapsules loaded with an ethanol extract of red propolis through chemical, physicochemical and microbiological assays in order to establish quality control tools for nutraceutical preparations of red propolis. The markers(isoflavonoids, chalcones, pterocarpans,flavones, phenolic acids, terpenes and guttiferones) present in the tinctures A and B were identified and confirmed using LC/ESI/FTMS/Orbitrap. Four compositions(A, B, C and D) were prepared to contain B tincture of the red propolis with some pharmaceutical excipients and submitted to two drying processes, i. ***-drying and freeze-drying to obtain microcapsules loaded with the red propolis extract. The tinctures and microcapsules of the red propolis were submitted to the total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity *** antibacterial activity and minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) were tested using Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25293 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 strains. The tinctures and microcapsules presented high flavonoid quantities from 20.50 to 40.79 mg/100 mg of the microcapsules. The antioxidant activity and IC50 were determined for the tinctures A and B(IC50: 6.95 μg/m L and 7.48 μg/m L), the spray-dried microcapsules(IC50: 8.89–15.63 μg/m L) and the freeze-dried microcapsules(IC50: 11.83–23.36 μg/m L). The tinctures and microcapsules were proved to be bioactive against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria with inhibition halos superior to 10 mm at concentration of 200 μg/m L and MIC values of 135.87–271.74 μg/m L using gram-positive strain and 271.74–543.48 μg/m L using gram-negative strain. The tinctures and microcapsules of the red propolis have a potential application for nutraceutical products.

Oligodendrocyte precursor cells(OPCs)and microglia are two very fascinating cell types with a multitude of important but different *** a first glance,they appear not to share many cellular properties,nor are directly related to one another or derived from a common *** all differences,emerging data show that both cell types express the protein nerve/glial antigen 2(NG2)after pathological insults(Figure 1).For years,it remained controversial whether microglia really could express NG2 upon injury,with contradictory results reported among different disease *** this question,we could recently show by using triple transgenic knock-in mice and either an acute injury model(stab wound injury)or the middle cerebral artery occlusion combined with immunohistochemistry that a subset of microglia activates the cspg4 gene in a disease dependent manner leading to a bonafide microglia-specific NG2 protein expression besides OPCs and *** data show that the cspg4 gene not only gets transcribed in microglia based on reporter expression after recombination,but also the protein itself is expressed(Huang et al.,2020).

Nitrogen is critical for cell growth, proliferation, and function. Amino acid (AA) catabolism is a major source of intracellular nitrogen for biosynthesis but also generates the nitrogen-containing molecule ammonia (NH3+), which can accumulate to toxic levels in a cell if not exported to the circulation and detoxified by the urea cycle in the liver. In a recent paper in Nature Immunology, Tang et al. [1] discovered a functional urea cycle in memory T cells, which metabolizes ammonia, prevents its toxic accumulation.

Localized Administration of Tissue Plasminogen Activator through the Ophthalmic Artery in the Setting of Central Retinal Artery Occlusion

Treatment of central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) has been an ambiguous entity in the medical community. Many interventions have been explored;however, a standard of care has yet to be defined. Recent studies have suggested localized intra-arterial fibrinolysis as a promising method;however, a timeframe for optimal treatment initiation continues to be investigated. This case demonstrates an instance of CRAO treated with local fibrinolysis, however, what could be due to delayed time-to-treat, final visual outcomes were unfavorable. In conjunction with supporting literature, we believe optimization of thrombolytic protocols should be sought after to facilitate successful treatment outcomes. In addition, we encourage community awareness of the signs and symptoms of CRAO in hopes that earlier patient presentations will lead to swifter interventions and overall preservation of ocular function.

Reproductive strategies in males of the world’s southernmost lizards

Reproductive and life history patterns in reptiles are tightly related to the environmental conditions,so male reproductive cycles have been historically characterized as continuous,for tropical lizards,or seasonal,for temperate ***,males of Liolaemus and Phymaturus lizards(Liolaemidae),from cold temperate climates of high altitudes or latitudes in Argentina and Chile,have developed a variety of reproductive cycles to coordinate with the short female reproductive season and to deal with the low frequency of reproductive females in the *** gonadal histology and morphological analysis,we describe the male reproductive biology,fat storage and sexual dimorphism of the viviparous lizards Liolaemus sarmientoi and Liolaemus magellanicus that inhabit an austral grass steppe at 51°S,in the southern limit of the American *** of *** and *** are reproductively available during the entire activity season of approximately 5 *** addition,males of both species exhibit greater body sizes than females in morphological variables relevant in sexual ***,females of both species exhibit larger inter-limb length than conspecific males,which suggests fecundity selection to increase space for a larger litter *** continuous sperm production throughout the activity season allows these liolaemids to mate at any time when females ovulate,representing a selective advantage to deal with the short activity season and the adversities of the cold environment they inhabit.

Effect of homogenization process on the hardness of Zn-al-Cu alloys

The effect of a homogenizing treatment on the hardness of as-cast Zn–al–Cu alloys was investigated. Eight alloy compositions were prepared and homogenized at 350 °C for 180 h, and their Rockwell 'B' hardness was subsequently measured. all the specimens were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and metallographically prepared for observation by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results of the present work indicated that the hardness of both alloys(as-cast and homogenized) increased with increasing al and Cu contents; this increased hardness is likely related to the presence of the θ and τ′ phases. A regression equation was obtained to determine the hardness of the homogenized alloys as a function of their chemical composition and processing parameters, such as homogenization time and temperature, used in their preparation.

The influence of emissions of an active volcano on the composition of nanoparticles and ultrafine road dust was identified in an urban area of the *** many cities are close to active volcanoes,few studies have evaluated their influence in road dust *** quality in urban areas is significantly affected by nonexhaust emissions(*** dust,brake wear,tire wear),however,natural sources such as volcanoes also impact the chemical composition of the *** this study,elements from volcanic emissions such as Si>al>Fe>Ca>K>Mg,and Si-al with K were identified as complex ***,As,Hg,Cd,Pb,As,H,Cd,Pb,V,and salammoniac were observed in nanoparticles and ultrafine *** composition was detected in the order of quartz>mullite>calcite>kaolinite>illite>goethite>magnetite>zircon>monazite,in addition to salammoniac,a tracer of volcanic *** foregoing analysis reflects the importance of carrying out more studies relating the influence of volcanic emissions in road dust in order to protect human *** road dust load(RD_(10))ranged between 0.8 and 26.8 mg m^(−2)in the city.

High arsenic(As)and chromium(Cr)concentrations are currently receiving attention because of their negative effects on the environment and human *** inhabiting contaminated environments have developed resistance mechanisms against the toxicity of these ***,members of the bacterial genus Micrococcus have been isolated from different toxic metal-contaminated environments;however,knowledge concerning its resistance mechanisms to As and Cr toxicity remains *** luteus strains(An24,Mh,NE2TL6,and NE2TTS4)were isolated from the endosphere and soil of two heavy metal-contaminated sites in Mexico to identify differences in the resistance mechanisms by the *** *** strains were resistant to As(As^(3+)and As^(5+)),chromate,dichromate,cobalt,copper,nickel,and *** analysis indicated that the heavy metal-resistant strains(An24,Mh,NE2TL6,and NE2TTS4)could be assigned to the *** group and had more heavy metal-resistant genes(transporters,chaperones,and enzymes)compared to reference strains of the *** group,*** NCTC 2665^(T)and Micrococcus endophyticus JCM 16951^(T).The resistant bacteria were able to biotransform As^(3+)and As^(5+)through a carbon source-dependent *** biotransformation of As5+was potentially carried out in the cytoplasm through a thioredoxin-dependent pathway,which may be coupled with biosorption.A qualitative analysis of organic acids(OAs)identified a change in the OA profile of the metal-resistant strains that was As-or *** genomic and phenotypic findings suggest that the four *** group strains evaluated in the current study have developed resistance mechanisms that may enable their survival in contaminated sites.

综述了铝/钢、钛/钢、镁/铝和NiTi形状记忆合金/不锈钢异种金属激光焊接接头中金属间化合物的形成机理及控制措施的研究进展。分析了不同母材成分以及不同焊接工艺对接头金属间化合物的影响。通过添加中间填料、控制热输入和采取复合焊接工艺等方式可以对金属间化合物实现有效控制,从而优化焊接接头组织,提升力学性能。介绍了材料计算学在模拟和预测异种金属激光焊接接头金属间化合物结构和性能方面的研究进展。
