AIM To evaluate the association between polymorphismsin glutathione S transferases(GSTs) and the risk of sporadic colorectal cancer(SCRC), tumor progression and the survival of *** A case-control study of 970 individuals from the Brazilian population was conducted(232 individuals from the case group with colorectal cancer and 738 individuals from the control group without a history of cancer). PCR multiplex and PCR-RFLP techniques were used to genotype the GST polymorphisms. The tumors were categorized according to the TNM classification: tumor extension(T), affected lymph nodes(N), and presence of metastasis(M). Logistic regression, multiple logistic regression and survival analysis were used to analyze the data. The results are presented in terms of odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(CI). The level of significance was set at 5%(P ≤ 0.05).RESULTS Age equal to or over 62 years(OR = 8.79; 95%CI: 5.90-13.09, P < 0.01) and female gender(OR = 2.91; 95%CI: 1.74-4.37; P < 0.01) were associated with increased risk of SCRC. Analysis of the polymorphisms revealed an association between the GSTM1 polymorphisms and a risk of SCRC(OR = 1.45; 95%CI: 1.06-2.00; P = 0.02), as well as between GSTT1 and a reduced risk of the disease(OR = 0.65; 95%CI: 0.43-0.98; P = 0.04). An interaction between the presence of the wild-type allele of GSTP1 Ile105 Val polymorphism and tobacco consumption on risk of SCRC(OR = 2.33; 95%CI: 1.34-4.05; P = 0.05) was observed. There was an association between the GSTM1 null genotype and the presence of advanced tumors(OR = 2.33; 95%CI: 1.23-4.41; P = 0.009), as well as increased risk of SCRC in the presence of a combination of GSTT1 non-null/GSTM1 null genotypes(OR = 1.50; 95%CI: 1.03-2.19; P = 0.03) and GSTT1 non-null/GSTM1 null/GSTP1 Val~*(OR = 1.85; 95%CI: 1.01-3.36, P = 0.04). 目的:运用B超评估受体对无眼眼眶植入凝胶聚乙烯义眼台和多孔聚乙烯义眼台的反应。方法:兔36只行单侧眼内容物剜除并凝胶聚乙烯义眼台或多孔聚乙烯义眼台植入术,术后每周进行临床检查,术后30,60,90d行B超检查。结果:植入凝胶聚乙烯义眼台的兔除1只外,义眼台全都脱出,可能是凝胶义眼台吸水后体积增大造成的。B超检查显示随访期间凝胶义眼台内部无血管。植入多孔聚乙烯义眼台的兔有5只(27.8%),术后30d发生义眼台脱出。根据B超检查,多孔聚乙烯义眼台显示结构不规则有异质性,回声与血管组织类似。结论:如何确定植入兔无眼眼眶的凝胶聚乙烯义眼台的最佳大小,还需要进一步研究。我们的研究显示,B超能有效评估无眼球眼眶植入的义眼台,为进一步的活体研究提供了有用信息,有可能取代其他评估义眼台血管化的昂贵检查。

Background： Leptin has a strong relation to important traits in animal production, such as carcass composition,feed intake, and reproduction. It is mainly produced by adipose cells and acts predominantly in the *** this study, circulating leptin and its gene expression in muscle were evaluated in two groups of young Nellore bulls with divergent feed efficiency. Individual dry matter intake（DMI） and average daily gain（ADG） of 98 Nellore bulls were evaluated in feedlot for 70 d to determinate the residual feed intake（RFI） and select 20 animals for the high feed efficient（LRFI） and 20 for the low feed efficient（HRFI） groups. Blood samples were collected on d 56 and at slaughter（80 d） to determine circulating plasma leptin. Samples of Longissimus dorsi were taken at slaughter for leptin gene expression ***： DMI and RFI were different between groups and LRFI animals showed less back fat and rump fat thickness,as well as less pelvic and kidney fat weight. Circulating leptin increased over time in all animals. Plasma leptin was greater in LRFI on 56 d and at slaughter（P = 0.0049）. Gene expression of leptin were greater in LRFI animals（P = 0.0022） in accordance with the plasma levels. The animals of the LRFI group were leaner, ate less, and had more circulating leptin and its gene ***： These findings demonstrated that leptin plays its physiological role in young Nellore bulls, probably controlling food intake because feed efficient animals have more leptin and lower residual feed intake.

The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of a modified Shannon trap to capture adult insects that are involved in cadaveric decomposition processes. The Shannon trap proposed here is composed of a thin fabric tent with a top formed by a transparent bottle containing a compartment filled with alcohol gel on which the captured insects are affixed. The trap was effective both for weather resistance and the quantity, quality and diversity of insects caught.

AIM To evaluated the association of the risk factors and polymorphisms in MTHFR C677 T, MTHFR A1298 C, MTR A2756 G and MTRR A66 G *** Patients with cirrhosis(n = 116), hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)(n = 71) and controls(n = 356) were included. Polymerase chain reaction followed by enzymatic digestion and allelic discrimination technique real-time PCR techniques were used for analysis. MINITAB-14.0and SNPstats were utilized for statistical analysis. RESULTS Showed that age ≥ 46 years(OR = 10.31; 95%CI: 5.66-18.76; P < 0.001) and smoking(OR = 0.47; 95%CI: 0.28-0.78; P = 0.003) were associated with cirrhosis. Age ≥ 46 years(OR = 16.36; 95%CI: 6.68-40.05; P < 0.001) and alcohol habit(OR = 2.01; 95%CI: 1.03-3.89; P = 0.039) were associated with HCC. MTHFR A1298 C in codominant model(OR = 3.37; 95%CI: 1.52-7.50; P = 0.014), recessive model(OR = 3.04; 95%CI: 1.43-6.47; P = 0.0051) and additive model(OR = 1.71; 95%CI: 1.16-2.52; P = 0.0072) was associated with HCC, as well as MTR A2756 G in the additive model(OR = 1.68; 95%CI: 1.01-2.77; P = 0.047), and MTRR A66 G in the codominant model(OR = 3.26; 95%CI: 1.54-6.87; P < 0.001), dominant model(OR = 2.55; 95%CI: 1.24-5.25; P = 0.007) and overdominant model(OR = 3.05; 95%CI: 1.66-5.62; P < 0.001). MTR A2756 G in the additive model(OR = 1.54; 95%CI: 1.02-2.33; P = 0.042) and smokers who presented at least one polymorphic allele for MTRR A66G(OR = 1.71; 95%CI: 0.77-3.82; P = 0.0051) showed increased risk for cirrhosis. There was no association between clinical parameters and polymorphisms. CONCLUSION Age ≥ 46 years, alcohol habit and MTR A2756 G, MTHFR A1298 C and MTRR A66 G polymorphisms are associated with an increased risk of HCC development; age ≥ 46 years, tobacco habit and the MTR A2756 G polymorphism are associated with cirrhosis.
