In the last decade, Brazil was the scene of two of the world’s biggest disasters related to mining tailings dams. The collapse of the Mariana and Brumadinho dams was catastrophic event that brought to light major environmental and humanitarian crises. Facts like this incite debate on the safety of dam construction methods and highlight the need for a broad discussion of dam safety legislation in the country. From the above, this paper promotes a review of various forms of construction of tailings dams and their associated problems, as well as discusses the techniques for soil reinforcement and their construction methods. The work also brings an overview of the Brazilian dams from April to July 2019, tracing the context of the Brazilian tailings dams months after the tragedy of Brumadinho. The methodology includes a robust literature review and discourse analysis. In Brazil, the number of ruptured dams is alarming, especially in the state of Minas Gerais, in which more than 7 have broken in the last two decades. Among the damages, the deaths impact society abruptly and were cataloged 455 deaths, of which 216 correspond to the rupture of the dam of the Córrego do Feijão mine in Brumadinho. To evaluate and diagnose a dam, one should consider ordinance N ° 70,389, 2017 revoked by Resolution ANM n ° 95, of February 7, 2022. In this context, in March 2019, we experienced several disturbing situations regarding dam instability in the state of Minas Gerais, being categorized as risky structures. To exemplify, one can cite dams classified as level 2 risk that became level 3. Due to the above facts, several studies are being conducted to improve soil aspects. For example, we highlight the increase in soil resistance that can be done using commercial and alternative materials available in the environment.

This paper presents an automatic system for failure detection in hydro-power generators. The main idea of this system is to detect failure using current and voltage signals acquired without any type of internal interference in the generator operation. The detected failures could be mechanical or electrical origins, such as: problems in bearings, unwanted vibrations, partial discharges, misalignment, unbalancing, among others. It is possible because the generator acts as a transducer for mechanical problems, and they appear in current and voltage signals. This automatic system based on electric signature analysis has been installed in Itapebi Power Plant generators since 2012. Some results are presented in this paper.

The pandemic of the new coronavirus(COVID-19)may be affecting the physical activity(PA)level in much of the *** study aimed to investigate the prevalence of physical inactivity and sedentary behavior(SB)among adults with chronic diseases and their associations with sociodemographic factors during the COVID-19 *** cross-sectional study included 249 participants(age:18-91 years;61.4%female)with chronic conditions and attended the Family Health Strategy program in a small town in *** were collected between 2020-07-13 and 2020-07-24 by face-to-face ***-reported PA,sitting time,chronic diseases,medication use,sociodemographic data,and self-isolation adherence were obtained by *** this specific time point of the COVID-19 pandemic,71.5%of participants did not meet the PA recommendations(≥500 METs-min/week),and the prevalence of SB risk(≥4 h sitting)was 62.7%.Adjusted logistic regression indicated that male participants(odds ratio[OR]:1.89[95%CI 1.02-3.53]),living alone(OR:2.92[95%CI 1.03-8.30])or in a two-person household(OR:2.32[95%CI 1.16-4.63]),and those who reported sometimes performing self-isolation(OR:3.07[95%CI 1.47-6.40])were more likely to meet the minimum PA *** smokers had a lower odds(OR:0.36[95%CI 0.14-0.95])of meeting the PA *** participants(OR:2.18[95%CI 1.06-4.50])and those who had multimorbidity(OR:1.92[95%CI 1.07-3.44])were more likely to have a higher degree of *** is an urgent need to mitigate physical inactivity and SB,and public health interventions must take into account sociodemographic status.

The combination of therapies may be the promising future for the treatment of esthetic alterations more efficiently and in less time, in order to obtain an excellent result. Our objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of hydrolysed collagen associated with radiofrequency and electrostimulation in the treatment of flaccidity in the abdominal and gluteal regions. The sample consisted of 6 women, evaluated through evaluation protocols, questionnaires, dynamometry, ultrasound exams, and histological analysis. The volunteers were distributed into three subgroups: hydrolysed collagen group (G-1), radiofrequency + hydrolysed collagen group (G-2) and radiofrequency + hydrolysed collagen + electrostimulation group (G-3). The ultrasound analysis of the abdominal muscles showed an increase in muscle thickness in all groups, but not significant (p > 0.05). The histological analysis showed an evident increase in type I collagen in groups G-2 and G-3, with proliferating cells (Ki67+). The results of dynamometry showed significant values in different times (p days (p = 0.03) and with 60 days (p = 0.04). All participants rated the treatment positively. The use of combined therapies has shown superior results for the treatment of abdominal and gluteal flaccidity when compared with its isolated use, being the combination of therapies important in the treatment of flaccidity.

As forests in neotropical regions,particularly in developing countries,are devastated,interventions to restore biodiversity and its ecological functions are *** producers have thus been encouraged to grow trees for wood production as an economic *** objective of this study was to quantify the increment of wood density of four forest species from different successional classes of a mixed system of restoration in a neotropical forest in *** discs were sampled at breast height and analyzed radially by X-ray densitometry to obtain apparent density and basic *** trees each of a species from the pioneer,early and late secondary successional stages and of the dominant species in the climax *** radial profiles indicated increasing density from the pith to bark of trunks,except for some variations due to wood defects and *** density was 0.576 g cm^(-3),0.655 g cm^(-3),0.706 g cm^(-3)and 0.775 g cm^(-3),respectively,for Peltophorum dubium,Schinus terebinthifolius,Cariniana estrellensis and Hymenaea *** profiles indicated higher amplitudes in the apparent densities for slow-growing species.X-ray densitometry generated parameters such as minimum,average and maximum densities,and radial density *** parameters are important for understanding the ecological functional role of successional classes of the Atlantic Forest from the Neotropical region.

BACKGROUND Obesity has been associated with hepatic overexpression of the renin-angiotensin system(RAS).AIM To evaluate the action of two angiotensin II(ANGII) receptor blockers(losartan or telmisartan) on the modulation of local hepatic RAS and the resulting metabolic effects in a diet-induced obesity murine *** Twenty C57 BL/6 mice were randomly divided into two nutritional groups for 10 wk: control group(C, n = 5, 10% of energy as fat) or high-fat group(HF, n = 15,50% of energy as fat). After treatment started, the HF group was randomly divided into three groups: untreated HF group(n = 5), HF treated with losartan(HFL, n = 5) and HF treated with telmisartan(HFT, n = 5). The treatments lasted for 5 wk, and the dose was 10 mg/kg body *** HF diet induced body mass gain(+28%, P < 0.0001), insulin resistance(+69%, P =0.0079), high hepatic triacylglycerol(+127%, P = 0.0004), and overexpression of intrahepatic angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE) 1/ANGII type 1 receptor(AT1 r)(+569.02% and +141.40%, respectively, P < 0.0001). The HFL and HFT groups showed higher ACE2/rMAS gene expression compared to the HF group(ACE2: +465.57%, P = 0.0002 for HFL and +345.17%, P = 0.0049 for HFT; rMAS:+711.39%, P < 0.0001 for HFL and +539.75%, P < 0.0001 for HFT), followed by reduced insulin/glucose ratio(-30% for HFL and-33% for HFT, P = 0.0181),hepatic triacylglycerol levels(-28%, P = 0.0381 for HFL; and-45%, P = 0.0010 for HFT, and Plin2 *** Modulation of the intrahepatic RAS, with favored involvement of the ACE2/rMAS axis over the ACE1/AT1 r axis after losartan or telmisartan treatments, caused hepatic and metabolic beneficial effects as demonstrated by reduced hepatic triacylglycerol levels coupled with reduced PLIN 2 expression and improved glycemic control.
