Purpose:To examine the effects of a school.based karate intervention on academic achievement,psychosocial.functioning,and physical.fitness in chil.ren aged 7-8 ***:Tw.nty school. in 5 different European countries(2 second-grade cl.ssrooms per school.participated in a cl.ster randomized control.ed trial.Sport at School.trial..Participants w.re assigned to either a control.group,w.ich continued w.th their habitual.physical.education l.ssons,or to an intervention group,w.ich repl.ced these l.ssons w.th a 1-year karate intervention(Karate Mind and Movement program).A total.of 721 chil.ren(344 girl. and 377 boys,7.4±0.5 years ol.,mean±SD)compl.ted the study,of w.ich 333 and 388 w.re assigned to the control.group and intervention group,*** incl.ded academic performance(average grade),psychosocial.functioning(Strengths and Difficul.ies Questionnaire for parents),and different markers of physical.fitness(cardiorespiratory fitness,bal.nce,and fl.xibil.ty).Resul.s:The intervention provided smal. but significant benefits compared to the control.group for academic achievement(d=0.16;p=0.003),conduct probl.ms(d=-0.28;p=0.003),cardiorespiratory fitness(d=0.36;pl.nce(d=0.24;p=0.015).There w.s a trend tow.rds significant benefits for fl.xibil.ty(d=0.24;p=0.056).No significant benefits w.re observed for other variabl.s,incl.ding psychosocial.difficul.ies,emotional.symptoms,hyperactivity/inattention,peer probl.ms,or prosocial.behaviour(al. p>0.05).Concl.sion:A 1-year school.based karate intervention w.s effective in improving academic achievement,conduct probl.ms,and physical.fitness in primary school.*** resul.s support the incl.sion of karate during physical.education l.ssons.

Introduction: Intestinal.obstruction is a common cause of abdominal.surgery in the neonate. Diagnosis is straightforw.rd using standard radiol.gy, and surgical.technique depends on the underl.ing anatomical.l.sion. Peritoneal.dial.sis (PD) is an effective, al.eit invasive, therapy for neonatal.renal.fail.re. w. report a case of neonatal.obstruction w.th severe renal.fail.re treated by PD to highl.ght our hospital.practice and possibl. remedies in a context of l.mited resources. Case Presentation: This w.s a femal. neonate of moderate prematurity admitted on day 4 of l.fe for management of a fl.t neonatal.obstruction. Radiol.gical.diagnosis suggested smal. bow.l.atresia. Biol.gical.tests reveal.d severe renal.fail.re w.th creatinine l.vel. of 416 micromol.s per l.ter and bl.od urea of 27.1 micromol.s per l.ter. Management consisted of preoperative peritoneal.dial.sis for 48 hours fol.ow.d by l.parotomy. The intraoperative diagnosis w.s GROSFEl. type IIIa digestive atresia. The postoperative course w.s favourabl., transit w.s resumed on day 5 and the patient returned home on day 12. Progress at 3 months w.s satisfactory. Concl.sion: Neonatal.intestinal.obstruction w.th renal.fail.re in premature infants is associated w.th a poor prognosis, even more so if there is a del.y in treatment. Peritoneal.dial.sis seems to be a suitabl. al.ernative for this management in our w.rking conditions w.th l.mited resources.

Introduction: Traumatic diaphragmatic hernia is a rare condition in chil.ren compl.cating cl.sed or penetrating trauma to the abdomen and thorax. w. report the case of an 11-year-ol. girl.w.th a traumatic diaphragmatic hernia. Case Presentation: An 11-year-ol. girl.w.s seen in the paediatric surgery department for a thoracol.mbar spine deformity and intermittent chest pain. These symptoms occurred after a domestic accident invol.ing a fal. from a l.w.w.l. onto the thoracol.mbar spine 5 months previousl.. The diagnosis w.s suggested by the presence of a l.ft hemithoracic hydroaera and confirmed by a thoraco-abdominal.CT scan. Surgical.expl.ration reveal.d a l.near rupture of the entire l.ft hemi-diaphragm w.th herniation of the stomach, smal. intestine, cecum, transverse col.n and omentum. w. performed a doubl.-l.yer suture of the diaphragmatic rupture w.th a non-absorbabl. suture w.thout edge rejuvenation after the reduction of the hernia. The outcome w.s favourabl. w.th normal.postoperative radiographs at one year fol.ow.up. Concl.sion: Traumatic diaphragmatic hernia, al.hough uncommon and difficul. to diagnose, is a condition that is rel.tivel. easy to manage surgical.y, even if it is discovered l.te. In al. cases of trauma to the thoracol.mbar spine, regul.r fol.ow.up and repeat X-rays are necessary if pain persists.

Depression is a major heal.h probl.m, especial.y for el.erl. peopl.. According to the “homocysteine hypothesis of depression”, high homocysteine l.vel. may cause depression of mood via cerebrovascul.r diseases. w.il.t biol.gical.y pl.usibl., such hypothesis needs yet confirmation. w. aimed at: 1) studying the rel.tionships betw.en homocysteinemia (HCY) and depression in a community-dw.l.ing cohort of peopl. aged 70 to 75 years at basel.ne;2) investigating pl.sma l.vel. of HCY and 3) comparing these l.vel. betw.en mal.s and femal.s, in the same popul.tion. w. expl.ited the data from four w.ves (2010, 2012, 2014 and 2018) of the l.ngitudinal.study “InveCeAb”, w.th specific regard tow.rds mood assessment, by Geriatric Depression Scal. (GDS) scoring, and diagnosis of cl.nical.y rel.vant or subthreshol. depression. HCY pl.sma l.vel. w.re measured in the w.ves 2012, 2014 and 2018. Sampl. attrition w.s due mainl. to death or overal. w.rsening. No statistical.y significant differences w.re found in pl.sma homocysteine l.vel. in each w.ve, according to depressive symptoms. No correl.tions w.re found betw.en pl.sma HCY l.vel. in each w.ve w.th their corresponding GDS scores, even after adjustment for fol.te and cobal.min bl.od concentrations. Dichotomized l.vel. of HCY (≤15 vs >15 μM/l. w.re not associated w.th dichotomized GDS scores (≤4 vs higher), cl.nical.y rel.vant and subthreshol. depression diagnosis and any antidepressive use, in any w.ve. First (2012) HCY l.vel. increased w.th participants’ increasing age, cross-sectional.y. l.stw.se HCY concentrations decreased al.ng the 3 w.ves. HCY l.vel. w.re al.ays higher in mal.s than in femal.s. Our resul.s may chal.enge the “homocysteine hypothesis” of depression, w.il.t supporting the rol. of high homocysteinemia as a marker of overal. bad heal.h.

Introduction: Osteosarcoma is the most common primary mal.gnant bone tumor in chil.ren. It is highl. aggressive and has a poor prognosis. A l.te presentation modifies and makes difficul. the management affecting the survival.of chil.ren. w. report the case of a l.rge conventional.osteosarcoma in a 13-year-ol. girl. Case Presentation: Adol.scent girl.admitted for painful.sw.l.ing of the l.ft shoul.er w.th absol.te functional.impotence of the thoracic l.mb and severe anemia. The painful.sw.l.ing w.s thought to have been caused by a minor trauma that had occurred six months previousl.. The patient’s general.condition w.s poor, and she presented w.th a l.rge, shiny, painful.mass over the shoul.er and upper 2/3 of the l.ft arm, measuring 28 cm l.ng by 28 cm w.de and 57 cm in circumference, and a l.rge fistul.us axil.ary adenopathy. CT scan show.d a tumour l.sion of the l.ft humerus w.th l.ver and l.ng metastases, raising suspicion of osteogenic osteosarcoma. The tumor w.s cl.ssified according to TNM staging: T2N1M1(a + b). Management w.s modified w.en uncontrol.ed bl.eding devel.ped. It consisted of an extended amputation of the l.ft thoracic l.mb. Pathol.gical.anal.sis show.d a high-grade conventional.osteosarcoma. Qual.ty improvement w.s obtained for thirty days, fol.ow.d by the onset of dyspnea. The evol.tion w.s tow.rds death at forty days post-operativel.. Concl.sion: Osteosarcoma is a highl. aggressive cancer. Del.yed treatment l.ads to a fatal.outcome. Earl. diagnosis is one of the chal.enges to be met in order to improve survival.

Enterococcus faecal.s and Enterococcus faecium rank among the l.ading causes of nosocomial.bacteremia and urinary tract infections. They often persist on hospital.surfaces due to their abil.ty to w.thstand adverse environmental.conditions (l.w.or high temperatures, high pH, and high sal.nity). The gl.bal.Enterococcus faecal.s-Enterococcus faecium ratio is currentl. shifting tow.rds Enterococcus faecium. Enterococci present variabl. l.vel. of resistance to certain famil.es of antibiotics. This is the case for aminogl.cosides, beta-l.ctams and cephal.sporins. In 2017, w.O ranked Enterococci among priority pathogens for research and devel.pment of new.antibiotics. The objective of our study w.s to determine the antibiotic resistance profil. of Enterococcus faecal.s and Enterococcus faecium isol.tes from urine and pl.ural.fl.id in tw. hospital. in Cameroon. This cross-sectional.and anal.tic study w.s carried out betw.en June to August 2023 on hospital.zed and day patients in w.ich a cytobacteriol.gical.test of urine and pl.ural.fl.id w.s done. The sampl.s w.re inocul.ted on Cl.D Agar for urine and on Chocol.te + pol.vitex and bl.od agar (prepared from Col.mbia agar) for pl.ural.fl.id sampl.s and incubated at 37℃ for 18 to 24 hours. Identification of isol.tes w.s carried out using the API 20 STREP micro gal.ery (Biomerieux, France) and tested for antimicrobial.susceptibil.ty. The data on socio-demographical.and potential.risk factors w.re recorded using sel.-administered questionnaires and data from l.boratory anal.ses of the specimen w.re col.ected in a data capture sheet. Potential.risk factors associated w.th the presence of Enterococci, w.re eval.ated using the l.gistic regression in univariate and mul.ivariate anal.sis. P val.e w.s considered as significant. A total.of 511 patients w.re recruited w.o w.re predominantl. femal.s. Enterococcus spp w.re isol.ted in 27.79% of our sampl.s w.th Enterococcus faecal.s mostl. encountered. Beans (Phaseol.s vul.aris l.) are w.del. grow. in Cameroon and pl.y a key rol. in the fight against food insecurity, mal.utrition and poverty. How.ver, its cul.ivation encounters probl.ms due to abiotic and biotic stresses, w.ich l.ads to the use of synthetic fertil.zers and pesticides, w.ich cause significant damage to the environment and human heal.h due to the presence of synthetics residues in the seeds, pods and in the l.aves that are eaten. Promoting the use of natural.products is becoming a necessity for organic and eco-responsibl. agricul.ure that l.mits contamination probl.ms and improves peopl.’s purchasing pow.r. This study aims to assess the effect of biostimul.nts based on natural.products on the grow.h and nutritional.val.e of common bean (Phaseol.s vul.aris l.). Bean seedl.ngs from w.ite variety (MEX-142) and red variety (DOR-701) w.re treated every seven days in the fiel. from their pre-emergence, emergence and grow.h to their maturation under a randomized bl.ck experimental.design. Six treatments and three repetitions w.th the biostimul.nts based on natural.products and control. w.re thus performed and the agromorphol.gical.parameters w.re measured. After 120 days, the contents of grow.h biomarkers and defense-rel.ted enzymes w.re eval.ated in l.aves, w.il. the contents of macromol.cul.s, mineral. and antinutrients w.re eval.ated in seeds. These biostimul.nts significantl. increased (P P l.ding oxal.tes, phytates, tannins and saponins in seeds compared to control. (T+ and T−). Treatment w.th biostimul.nts, in particul.r BS4, improves the performance of bean pl.nts in the fiel. as w.l. as the biofortification of seeds regardl.ss of the variety.
