Uranium isotopes of aeolian dust deposited in northern Tibetan Plateau glaciers:Implications for tracing aeolian dust provenance

Asian dust comprises a large portion of the northern hemisphere atmospheric dust load,thereby exerting substantial influence on the Earth’s climate,global biogeochemistry and hydrological cycle through accelerated snow and ice *** deposited on alpine glaciers encodes information on broad scale atmospheric-environmental ***(^(234)U/^(238)U)values of dust fine particulates can reflect the comminuting time and intermediate processes;thus,it provides a new method for the provenance of aeolian dust in the glacial snowpack/*** we present results from a comprehensive survey of uranium isotopic concentrations in dust collected from cryoconites on the glaciers of the northern Tibetan Plateau(TP).These results indicate significant spatial heterogeneity in the(^(234)U/^(238)U)values associated with snowpack/cryoconite dust over a broad range of glaciers in the northern *** values of the(^(234)U/^(238)U)ratio in the glaciers of western Qilian Mountains(Qiyi Glacier,Shiyi Glacier,Laohugou Glacier No.12)were the highest,followed by the Tanggula(Dunkemadi Glacier)and Kunlun Mountains(Yuzhufeng Glacier),whereas these values were the lowest in the eastern Qilian Mountains(jingyangling Snowpack,Dabanshan Snowpack,Lenglongling Glacier).By including the analysis of Sr-Nd isotopic compositions,we find the spatial isotopic distribution reflects a combination of local dust,which is associated with short comminuting times,and dust transported over long *** data indicate that the dust production in the west and north TP,Alxa arid lands and Gobi Deserts,may have a significant impact on the TP ***,U-Sr-Nd isotopic composition and end-member mixing models(EMMA)were used in our study to find out the relative contribution of distinct Asian dust sources to the dust budget in the TP *** results reveal that snowpack/cryoconite dust is derived from both local sources(low comminution signatures)as well as other dust sources in th

Composition， Distribution and Constraint Factors of Fe Isotope(δFe) in the Surface Soils of the Tibetan Plateau

Iron isotopes， represented by δ56Fe， serve as valuable tools for constraining the surface iron processes and as potent tracers for studying the biogeochemical cycle of iron. Nevertheless， our comprehension of iron isotopes in the land surface processes of the Tibetan Plateau （TP） remains limited. In this study， we present the results of iron isotopic composition (δ56Fe) in the surface soils of the TP， encompassing both glacial and non-glacial regions characterized by rugged and flat topographies. Our findings reveal that soil δ56Fe values ranged from -0.01±0.05‰ to 0.14±0.01‰， with the highest values observed in eastern locations （0.14‰） and the lowest appeared in the northeast （-0.1‰）. On a global scale， the δ56Fe values observed in Tibetan soils exhibited relatively small variability compared to reservoirs marked by significant iron isotope fractionation. By contrast， the range of TP soils measured here was slightly larger than that of the Chinese Loess. Furthermore， we discerned noticeable spatial variations in δ56Fe across the large-scale region of TP， indicating a gradual increase trend from the northeast to the south and from the west to the east. These regional disparities in δ56Fe likely arise from a combination of constraining factors， including differences in mineralogy， lithological variations， organic matter content， and variations in chemical weathering intensity. This study is pivotal in advancing our understanding of land surface iron isotope δ56Fe dynamics and its role in the biogeochemical cycle within the TP region.

Comparison of Two recurrent Neural Networks for rainfall-runoff Modeling in the Zou river Basin at Atchérigbé (Bénin)

Hydrological models are developed to simulate river flows over a watershed for many practical applications in the field of water resource management. The present paper compares the performance of two recurrent neural networks for rainfall-runoff modeling in the Zou river basin at Atchérigbé outlet. To this end, we used daily precipitation data over the period 1988-2010 as input of the models, such as the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and recurrent Gate Networks (GrU) to simulate river discharge in the study area. The investigated models give good results in calibration (r2 = 0.888, NSE = 0.886, and rMSE = 0.42 for LSTM;r2 = 0.9, NSE = 0.9 and rMSE = 0.397 for GrU) and in validation (r2 = 0.865, NSE = 0.851, and rMSE = 0.329 for LSTM;r2 = 0.9, NSE = 0.865 and rMSE = 0.301 for GrU). This good performance of LSTM and GrU models confirms the importance of models based on machine learning in modeling hydrological phenomena for better decision-making.

Association of initial assessment variables and mortality in severe pediatric traumatic brain injury

Background Predictive scales have been used to prognosticate long-term outcomes of traumatic brain injury(TBI),but gaps remain in predicting mortality using initial trauma resuscitation *** sought to evaluate the association of clinical variables collected during the initial resuscitation of intubated pediatric severe patients with TBI with in-hospital *** Intubated pediatric trauma patientsrs with severe TBI(Glasgow coma scale(GCS)score≤8)from january 2011 to December 2020 were *** between initial trauma resuscitation variables(temperature,pulse,mean arterial blood pressure,GCS score,hemoglobin,international normalized ratio(INr),platelet count,oxygen saturation,end tidal carbon dioxide,blood glucose and pupillary response)and mortality were evaluated with multivariable logistic *** Among 314 patients,median age was 5.5 years(interquartile range(IQr):2.2-12.8),GCS score was 3(IQr:3-6),Head Abbreviated Injury Score(hAIS)was 4(IQr:3-5),and most had a severe(25-49)Injury Severity Score(ISS)(48.7%,153/314).Overall mortality was 26.8%.GCS score,hAIS,ISS,INr,platelet count,and blood glucose were associated with in-hospital mortality(all pre increased,the odds of mortality *** 1-point increase in GCS score was associated with a 35%decrease in odds of *** hAIS,INr,and blood glucose increased,the odds of mortality *** each 1.0 unit increase in INr,the odds of mortality increased by 1427%.Conclusions Pediatric patients with severe TBI are at substantial risk for in-hospital *** are needed to examine whether earlier interventions targeting specific parameters of INr and blood glucose impact mortality.

Many species exhibit color polymorphisms which have distinct physiological and behavioral ***,the consistency of morph trait covariation patterns across species,time,and ecological contexts remains *** trait covariation is especially relevant in the context of invasion biology and urban ***,physiological traits pertaining to energy maintenance are crucial to fitness,given their immediate ties to individual reproduction,growth,and population *** investigated the physiological traits of Podarcis muralis,a versatile color polymorphic species that thrives in urban environments(including invasive populations in Ohio,USA).We measured five physiological traits(plasma corticosterone and triglycerides,hematocrit,body condition,and field body temperature),which compose an integrated multivariate *** then tested variation among co-occurring color morphs in the context of establishment in an urban *** found that the traits describing physiological status and strategy shifted across the active season in a morph-dependent manner—the white and yellow morphs exhibited clearly different multivariate physiological phenotypes,characterized primarily by differences in plasma *** suggests that morphs have different strategies in physiological regulation,the flexibility of which is crucial to urban *** white-yellow morph exhibited an intermediate phenotype,suggesting an intermediary energy maintenance *** morphs also exhibited distinct phenotypes,but the low prevalence of this morph in our study populations precludes clear *** work provides insight into how differences among stable polymorphisms exist across axes of the phenotype and how this variation may aid in establishment within novel environments.

Thermomechanical Modelling of Industrial Vessels that Contain refractory Masonry Linings

Some refractory linings that protect metallic vessels from the hot temperature of the products they contain are made of masonries with or without *** joints play an important role,reducing the stresses in the masonries during ***,the presence of these joints makes the behaviour of the masonry nonlinear and *** perform a thermomechanical simulation using a finite element method of an industrial vessel that contains hundreds or thousands of bricks and joints,microscopic models are not suitable due to the high computational time and the management of the behaviour of the joints(opening/closing)which affects the *** overcome these problems,it is proposed to replace the masonry by a homogeneous material that has a behaviour equivalent to the set of bricks and joints,using a periodic homogenization *** the joints can be closed or open,the equivalent material will have a different behaviour according to the joint ***,refractory materials have an elastic-viscoplastic behaviour at high ***,the equivalent material will have an orthotropic elastic-viscoplastic behaviour,requiring a nonlinear homogenisation *** overview of this approach developed at University of Orléans is presented with two industrial applications(blast-furnace and steel ladle).

We report the confirmation of a sub-Saturn-size exoplanet,TOI-1194 b,with a mass of about 0.456+0.055-0.051M_(j),and a very low mass companion star with a mass of about 96.5±1.5 Mj,TOI-1251 *** candidates provided by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS)are suitable for further follow-up observations by ground-based telescopes with small and medium *** analysis is performed based on data from several telescopes worldwide,including telescopes in the Sino-German multiband photometric campaign,which aimed at confirming TESS Objects of Interest(TOIs)using ground-based small-aperture and medium-aperture telescopes,especially for long-period ***-1194 b is confirmed based on the consistent periodic transit depths from the multiband photometric *** measure an orbital period of 2.310644±0.000001 days,the radius is 0.767+0.045-0.041rj and the amplitude of the rV curve is 69.4_(-7.3)^(+7.9)m s^(-1).TOI-1251 B is confirmed based on the multiband photometric and high-resolution spectroscopic data,whose orbital period is 5.963054+0.000002-0.000001days,radius is 0.947+0.035-0.033 r_(j) and amplitude of the rV curve is 9849_(-40)^(+42)ms^(-1).
