Valorization of Griffonia simplicifolia Seed Oil for Biodiesel Production: A Sustainable Alternative

Bio-derived oxygenated hydrocarbons, such as mixtures of fatty acid methyl esters (biodiesel), are promising alternatives for alleviating the adverse effects of fossil fuel consumption on climate change and preventing petroleum resource depletion. However, the selection of a viable feedstock for competitive biodiesel production remains challenging. Recent studies focusing on Griffonia simplicifolia seeds, the sole plant industrially exploited for 5-hydroxy- tryptophan (5-HTP) extraction, have shown that G. simplicifolia seed oil (GSO) can be solvent-extracted directly from ground seeds or the remaining seed cakes obtained after 5-HTP extraction with quantitative yields. This work documents the conversion of GSO into biodiesel through homogeneous base-catalyzed transesterification. The refractive index and density of the obtained methyl ester mixtures decreased with increasing oil-to-methanol molar ratio, reaction temperature, and time. Under specific conditions, 1.43 wt% FFA oil, 63.5C, 60 min, and 1:9 oil/MeOH molar ratio with 1.2 wt% NaOH or 1.3 wt% KOH as catalysts, optimal reaction conditions were reached. There were no significant differences in the potential for diminution of the refractive index and density between the NaOH and KOH catalysts. The predicted fuel properties based on the fatty acid composition determined by GC-MS showed that G. simplicifolia biodiesel exhibited a cetane index of 50.29, volumetric energy density of 34.97 MJ/L, cloud point of -1.03°C, kinematic viscosity of 4.07 mm2/s, and oxidative stability of 0.65 h. Apart from its unfavorable oxidative stability and slightly lower energy density compared to petrodiesel, all other calculated parameters met the current standards. The valorization concept proposed in this study should be integrated into the 5-HTP extraction process, preferably using the remaining dry seed cakes as raw materials to maximize revenue in a bioeconomic and sustainable approach.

Healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) remain a major public health concern. The aim of this study was to characterize potential pathogenic bacteria isolated in high-risk infectious services at the University Hospital Center of Suru-Léré in Benin. A cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out on 215 samples with 8 air samples, 20 hand samples and 187 samples of medical-technical material. Genes for resistance to β-lactam antibiotics (blaTEM, blaSHV, blaCTX-M and blaOXA-1) were sought. The data were processed and analyzed using EPI Info version 3.5.4 software. A total of 10 bacterial species were identified. Of the 319 bacterial strains identified, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis were predominant at 20.06%, 17.87% and 11.28% respectively. Antibiotic susceptibility showed that the majority of bacterial strains were multidrug-resistant. Of the 4 resistance genes sought, only the blaTEM and blaSHV genes were found. The poor microbiological quality observed in high-risk infectious services could be a risk factor for healthcare-associated infections. It is therefore useful to implement preventive measures in order to prevent or reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections.

In this essay I engage with Fredric Jameson＇s theoretical works and ideas, especially his concept of national allegory, and examine their possibilities and limits for use in literary analysis of Modem Chinese Literature. In particular, I examine the themes of the nation and the passage of time in the works of Yu Dafu, Lao She, Xiao Hong, and Zhao Shuli and argue for evidence of a historical development from cyclical narrative to messianic and utopian linear time in their novels. While Yu Dafu＇s ＂Sinking＂（Chenlun） and Lao She＇s Camel Xiangzi （Luotuo Xiangzi） both display a desire to break free from cyclical time and narration, the narratives fold back into themselves. In contrast, Xiao Hong＇s The Field of Life and Death （Shengsi chang） mediates between two different temporal schemes and marks a transition to the linear developments prevalent in Socialist Realist novels such as Zhao Shuli＇s Sanliwan Village （Sanliwan）. While Jameson＇s earlier works on Realism, Marxism, and the ＂Political Unconscious＂ all provide valuable insight into Modem Chinese Literature and the novels mentioned, Jameson＇s engagement with Chinese authors has also opened up new ways of examining Chinese literature.

Hip Disarticulation for Severely Injured Lowerlimbs about 11 Cases and Literature Review

Introduction: Hip disarticulation (HD) consists of a removal of the entire lower limb at the height of the hip-femoral joint. It is an extremely mutilating intervention with a major functional and psychological impact. We report 11 cases of hip disarticulation following severe trauma of the lower limb. The aim of the study is to analyze the frequency, the clinical aspect and present their management results and the patients’ becoming. Patients and methods: A 13-year retrospective study was conducted in our traumatology department. Eleven cases of hip disarticulation were identified. We analyzed the following data: the epidemiological parameters (age, sex, accidentology), Clinico-radiological (gravity injury severity score (ISS), mangled extremity severity score (MESS), associated lesion), admission time, evolutionary aspects and finally the patients’ becoming). Results: The series consisted of 3 males and 8 females, with an average age of 24 years. All experienced a HD following the lower limb severe traumatism due to a road accident. The category of victims was dominated by pedestrians. The average admission time was 13 hours with extremes of 9 and 28 hours. Our series average ISS was 28 with extremes of 15 - 69. The associated lesions were dominated by Gustilo Type III A III B open fractures. The mean MESS at admission was 10 with extremes from 8 to 14. Complications were dominated by infection (at least 72%) with a mortality rate of 36.36%. Algohallucinosis affects all these patients post-operatively at varied degrees. Aggressive components and denial of bereavement were most noticeable. Only one patient was able to honor her Canadian prosthetic equipment. All the victims changed their personal and professional activities. Conclusion: HD is an extremely mutilating surgery with a major functional and psychological impact. 麻省理工学院肖恩·科利尔纪念碑是为了纪念2013年在波士顿马拉松爆炸案中中枪身亡的肖恩·科利尔军官而建造的。文章介绍了这一永久性建筑物的设计与建造过程。设计将当代的数字建造技术、结构分析软件和计算技术与古老的纯受压穹顶技术相结合,创造出由硬石构成的五向穹顶和内部反射的中空拱形结构。这一建造包含由计算机控制的锯石和机械臂切石过程,以创造出多样的曲面石块。巨大的石块被运至现场由泥瓦匠依照复杂的搭建顺序装配完成。从方法论而言,麻省理工学院肖恩·科利尔纪念碑的设计流程是一个来回推敲的过程,即不断地进行数字模拟,在构建物理模型、模拟模型和数字模型的过程中进行优化设计。这一设计同时展现了以新兴数字建造方法为代表的当代技术和以传统石块砌筑技术为代表的永恒手工艺。
