Background.The strength of cotton fiber has been extensively stud.ed.and.significantly improved.through selec-tive breed.ng,but fiber elongation has largely been ignored.even though elongation contributes to d.termining the energy need.d.to break *** d.velopments to calibrate the high volume instrument(HVI)for elongation has renewed.interest in ***,it is not und.rstood.how best to utilize yet another fiber property which has the potential to ad. to the complexity of fiber *** explore a practical approach to applying elongation,cot-ton samples were tested.using single fiber method.,the Stelometer,and.the *** of strength,elongation,and.combined.properties such as mod.lus were *** HVI testing was shown to be sensitive enough to characterize elongation d.fferences but unlike single fiber testing it was unable to capture within-sample *** bund.e testing,like Stelometer and.HVI was shown to red.ce bias d.e to fiber *** The use of secant mod.lus,an intrinsic material property,allowed.for one value to represent both strength and.*** mod.lus was shown to contain more useful information than either elongation or ***-to-break was shown to be more influenced.by a specific value of breaking force or elongation rather than the intrinsic behavior of the sample being *** the influence of genetics and.environment on elongation,and.its interaction with other fiber properties,requires ad.itional *** mod.lus,by combining strength and.elongation into one value,shows the potential to incorporate elongation values into fiber characteriza-tion without increasing the complexity of current fiber selection processes.

Animal habitat selection, among other ecological phenomena, is spatially scale d.pend.nt. Habitat selection by American beavers Castor canad.nsis （hereafter, beaver） has been stud.ed.at singular spatial scales, but to d.te no research ad.resses multi-scale selection. Our objectives were to d.termine if beaver habitat selection was specialized.to semiaquatic habitats and.if variables explaining habitat selection are consistent between land.cape and.fine spatial scales. We built maximum entropy （MaxEnt） mod.ls to relate land.cape-scale presence-only d.ta to land.cape variables, and.used.generalized.linear mixed.mod.ls to evaluate fine spatial scale habitat selection using global positioning system （GPS） relocation d.ta. Explanatory variables between the land.cape and.fine spatial scale were compared.for consistency. Our find.ngs suggested.that beaver habitat selection at coarse （stud. area） and.fine （within home range） scales was congruent, and.was influenced.by increasing amounts of wood. wetland.ed.e d.nsity and.shrub ed.e d.nsity, and.d.creasing amounts of open water ed.e d.nsity. Habitat suitability at the land.cape scale also increased.with d.creasing amounts of grass frequency. As territorial, central-place foragers, beavers likely trad.-off open water ed.e d.nsity （i.e., smaller non-forested.wetland. or lod.es closer to banks） for d.fense and.shorter d.stances to forage and.obtain construction material. Wood. plants along ed.es and.expanses of open water for pred.tor avoid.nce may limit beaver fitness and.subsequently d.termine beaver habitat selection.

Ped.atric autoimmune neuropsychiatric d.sord.rs associated.with or without streptococcal and.other bacterial infections (PANd.S/CANS) are emerging as a featured.ped.atric d.sord.r. Although there is some controversy regard.ng treatment approaches, especially related.to the behavioral sequelae, we have hypothesized.in other published.work that it is characterized.by the rapid.onset of Reward.d.ficiency Synd.ome (Rd.) in child.en. We propose utilizing a multi-systems biological approach involving the coupling of genetic ad.iction risk testing and.pro-d.pamine regulation (KB220/POLYGEN®) to help ind.ce “d.pamine homeostasis” in patients with PANd.S, especially those with known d.A-ind.ced.hypod.paminergia. This case stud. examines a 12-year-old.Caucasian male with no prior psychiatric issues who presented.with a sud.en onset of severe anxiety, d.pression, emotional liability, and.suicid.l id.ation. The patient und.rwent genotyping and.the genetic ad.iction risk score (GARS) testing, which revealed.risk polymorphisms in the d.pamine d. (-d.d./ANKK (Taq1A), OPRM1 (A/G), d.d. (C/T), and.MAOA (4R) genes. These polymorphisms have been linked.to hypod.paminergia. The patient was subsequently placed.on research Id.KB220ZPBMPOLY (POLYGEN®), and.albeit the possibility of bias, based.upon self and.parental assessment, a marked.rapid.improvement in psychiatric symptoms was observed. In the second.phase of treatment (102 d.ys utilizing KB220), the patient received.stand.rd.antibod. testing, which was positive for Lyme. Antibacterial therapy started.immed.ately, and.KB220z was d.scontinued.to provid. a wash-out period. A monotonic trend.analysis was performed.on each outcome measure, and.a consistently d.creasing trend.was observed.utilizing antibacterial therapy. Collaboration Exercises——The Lack of Collaborative Benefits

The purpose of this article is to analyze what professional emergency personnel learn d.ring collaboration exercises and.the benefits of what they have ***(n = 19) and.semistructured.interviews(n = 32) were carried.out in conjunction with major exercises held.in Swed.n(2007–2012). The results show that exercises tend.to be based.on their own logic, which d.ffers from actual events. Exercise participants believe that they mainly learn single-track, parallel, and.pathd.pend.nt behavior. The exercises d. not facilitate the use of cross-bound.ry activities. This means that learning, as well as benefits from the exercises for actual events, is limited. The exercises would.be more appropriate if those participating had.the opportunity to id.ntify weaknesses,try alternative ways, and.engage in comprehensive organizational analyses at the conclusion of the *** on the results of the stud., alternative mod.ls for collaboration exercises are suggested. with elements that would.better d.velop collaboration and.contribute to learning.

Surgical Site Infections in Trauma and.Orthopaed.cs at Bouaké Teaching Hospital (Côte d.Ivoire)

Background. Surgical site infections are serious healthcare problems. The aim was to d.scribe the epid.miological, d.agnostic, therapeutic, and.prognostic aspects of surgical site infections in Trauma and.Orthopaed.cs at Bouaké Teaching Hospital. Method. This retrospective, d.scriptive, and.analytical stud. was cond.cted.from January 2019 to d.cember 31, 2021. The d.ta stud.ed.includ.d.prevalence, initial lesions, type of surgical intervention, type of SSI, bacteria involved. treatment, and.outcomes. Results: Forty-four (11%) of the 399 patients includ.d.in the stud. d.veloped.a surgical site infection. The mean age was 27 years, with 36 male and.8 female. Initial lesions were pred.minantly open fractures (n = 31;70%), with a mean d.lay of 48 hours for surgical management. Emergency interventions accounted.for 70% (n = 31) of cases. The NNISS infection risk score was 1 in 80% (n = 35) of cases. Superficial infections (n = 34;77%) appeared.early, on a mean 6 d.ys postoperatively. Bacteriological analysis primarily id.ntified.Pseud.monas aeruginosa (n = 10;23%), sensitive to Imipenem and.Chloramphenicol but resistant to Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. Ceftriaxone, Gentamicin, and.Ciprofloxacin. Multid.ug-resistant bacteria were found.in 89% (n = 8) of cases, with all bacteria resistant to Ceftriaxone. Surgical revision was performed.in 10 patients (23%), primarily involving d.brid.ment with hard.are retention (n = 7;70%). Chloramphenicol was the most commonly used.antibiotic post-antibiogram (61%). Outcomes were favourable in 98% of cases. Id.ntified.risk factors includ.d.the type of lesion accord.ng to NRC classification, the d.lay in managing open fractures, and.the NNISS score. Conclusion: The prevalence of surgical site infection was 11%, favoured.by the d.layed.operation of open fractures.

Harmonia axyrid.s Pallas （Coleoptera： Coccinellid.e） is an invasive specie affecting the d.namics and.composition of several guild.. Nowad.ys, no biological control method.is available to red.ce the populations of this harmful coccinellid. Attractants and.semiochemicals seem to be the best alternative but only few stud.es have tested.the impact of semiochemicals on this Asian lad. beetle. In this work, through wind. tunnel experiments, semiochemicals from aphid. （Z,E-nepetalactone, [E]-β-farnesene, a-pinene and.β-pinene）, from coccinellid. （[-]-β-earyophyllene） and.from the nettle Urtica d.oica L. were evaluated.as potential attractants. The nettle volatile compound. （[Z]-3- hexenol and.[E]-2-hexenal） were extracted.using a Clevenger Apparatus and.id.ntified.by head.pace gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy. In the wind.tunnel experiments, the main components of the aphid.alarm pheromone as well as a component of the aphid.sexual pheromone strongly attracted.both sexes of the Asian lad. beetle while （-）-β- caryophyllene only attracted.few ind.vid.als and.had.no impact on the males. The nettle extract as well as the （Z）-3-hexenol oriented.both males and.females to the od.r source. The （E）-2-hexenal was shown to have no effect on females even if this green leaf volatile attracted.males. Because Z,E-nepetalactone was id.ntified.as the most efficient attractant in the wind.tunnel experiments, this volatile was also tested.in a potato field.where H. axyrid.s has been showed.to respond.to this semiochemical. This stud. highlighted.that Z,E-nepetalactone orientated.the Asian lad. beetle H. axyrid.s und.r natural cond.- tions, ind.cating that this volatile compound.could.certainly help for an efficient biological control approach against this invasive specie.

Background.The strength of cotton fiber has been extensively stud.ed.and.significant improvements in fiber strength have been mad.,but fiber elongation has largely been ignored.d.spite it contributing to the energy need.d.to break fibers,which affects fiber hand.ing and.*** Volume Instruments(HVI)measure fiber elongation but have not been calibrated.for this property,making the measurement unavailable for comparative work among *** prior work,a set of elongation calibration materials had.been d.veloped.based.on Stelometer results.A round.trial of ten Australian and.*** was cond.cted.on six cotton samples representing a range of 4.9%to 8.1%***:By scaling the HVI elongation values of each instrument to the values of the two calibration samples,the coefficient of variation in instrument measurements was red.ced.from an average of 34%for the uncalibrated.measurements to 5%for the calibrated.*** red.ction in variance allows for the d.rect comparison of results among instruments.A single-point elongation calibration was also assessed.but found.to be less effective than the proposed.two-point ***:The use of an effective calibration routine on HVI measurement of cotton significantly red.ces the coefficient of variation of the elongation measurement within and.between *** implementation of the elongation calibration will allow testing and.breed.ng programs to implement high-speed.elongation testing which makes the use of elongation values possible in breed.ng programs.

Utilizing d.mensional Analysis with Observed.d.ta to d.termine the Significance of Hyd.od.namic Solutions in Coastal Hyd.ology

In this paper, the authors present an analysis of the magnitud. of the temporal and.spatial acceleration (inertial) terms in the surface-water flow equations and.d.termine the cond.tions und.r which these inertial terms have sufficient magnitud. to be required.in the computations. d.ta from two South Florid. field.sites are examined.and.the relative magnitud.s of temporal acceleration, spatial acceleration, and.the gravity and.friction terms are compared. Parameters are d.rived.by using d.mensionless numbers and.applied.to quantify the significance of the hyd.od.namic effects. The time series of the ratio of the inertial and.gravity terms from field.sites are presented.and.compared.with both a simplified.ind.cator parameter and.a more complex parameter called.the Hyd.od.namic Significance Number (HSN). Two test-case mod.ls were d.veloped.by using the SWIFT2d.hyd.od.namic simulator to examine flow behavior with and.without the inertial terms and.compute the HSN. The first mod.l represented.one of the previously-mentioned.field.sites d.ring gate operations of a structure-managed.coastal canal. The second.mod.l was a synthetic test case illustrating the d.ainage of water d.wn a sloped.surface from an initial stage while und.r constant flow. The analyses ind.cate that the times of substantial hyd.od.namic effects are sporad.c but significant. The simplified.ind.cator parameter correlates much better with the hyd.od.namic effect magnitud. for a constant wid.h channel such as Miami Canal than at the non-uniform North River. Higher HSN values ind.cate flow situations where the inertial terms are large and.need.to be taken into account.
