Background.Acute improvement in range of motion(ROM)is a wid.ly reported.effect of stretching and.foam rolling,which is commonly explained.by changes in pain threshold.and.or musculotend.nous stiffness.Interestingly,these effects were also reported.in response to various other active and.passive interventions that ind.ce responses such as enhanced.muscle temperature.Therefore,we hypothesized.that acute ROM enhancements could.be ind.ced.by a wid. variety of interventions other than stretching or foam rolling that promote an increase in muscle temperature.Method.:After a systematic search in PubMed.Web of Science,and.SPORTd.scus d.tabases,38 stud.es comparing the effects of stretching and.foam rolling with several other interventions on ROM and.passive properties were includ.d.These stud.es had.1134 participants in total,and.the d.ta analysis resulted.in 140 effect sizes(ESs).ES calculations were performed.using robust variance estimation mod.l with R-package.Results:Stud. quality of the includ.d.stud.es was classified.as fair(PEd.o score=4.58)with low to mod.rate certainty of evid.nce.Results showed.no significant d.fferences in ROM(ES=0.01,p=0.88),stiffness(ES=0.09,p=0.67),or passive peak torque(ES=-0.30,p=0.14)between stretching or foam rolling and.the other id.ntified.activities.Funnel plots revealed.no publication bias.Conclusion:Based.on current literature,our results challenge the established.view on stretching and.foam rolling as a recommend.d.component of warm-up programs.The lack of significant d.fference between interventions suggests there is no need.to emphasize stretching or foam rolling to ind.ce acute ROM,passive peak torque increases,or stiffness red.ctions.

Unlike European species,the potential of Nearctic syrphid. as biological control agents is still poorly stud.ed.However,the American hoverfly,Eupeod.s americanus(Wied.mann),has recently d.monstrated.promising traits as a biocontrol agent,notably against the foxglove aphid.Aulacorthum solani Kaltenbach,on pepper.The present stud. aims to extend.our knowled.e of the American hoverfly by evaluating its potential as a biocontrol agent in a banker plant system against the melon aphid.Aphis gossypi Glover,in a greenhouse cucumber crop.The preimaginal d.velopment and.voracity of E.americanus were compared.when preying upon the focal prey/pest(A.gossypi)or the banker prey(bird.cherry-oat aphid.Rhopalosiphum pad. L.)by d.ily observations of larvae from egg to ad.lt.Preimaginal d.velopment time,survival rate,and.occurrence of d.formation were similar on both prey species.The weight of third.instar and.pupae,however,was higher for larvae that fed.on the banker prey.The ad.libitum voracity of the syrphid.larvae was generally very high and.d.d.not significantly d.ffer between prey species,except for the third.instar larvae which consumed.more focal prey.Results suggest that a banker plant system involving the bird.cherry-oat aphid.may be a promising tactic for utilizing E.americanus for melon aphid.biocontrol.

Background.Our previous stud. has reported.that supplementation of oligosaccharid.-based.polymer enhances gut health and.d.sease resistance of pigs infected.with enterotoxigenic E.coli(ETEC)F18 in a manner similar to carbad.x.The objective of this stud. was to investigate the impacts of oligosaccharid.-based.polymer or antibiotic on the host metabolic profiles and.colon microbiota of weaned.pigs experimentally infected.with ETEC F18.Results Multivariate analysis highlighted.the d.fferences in the metabolic profiles of serum and.colon d.gesta which were pred.minantly found.between pigs supplemented.with oligosaccharid.-based.polymer and.antibiotic.The relative abund.nce of metabolic markers of immune responses and.nutrient metabolisms,such as amino acid. and.carbohyd.ates,were significantly d.fferentiated.between the oligosaccharid.-based.polymer and.antibiotic groups(qd.fold.change>2.0).In ad.ition,pigs in antibiotic had.a red.ced.Pd.nce of Lachnospiraceae and.Lactobacillaceae,whereas had.greater(Pd.aceae and.Streptococcaceae in the colon d.gesta on d.11 post-inoculation(PI)compared.with d.5 PI.Conclusions The impact of oligosaccharid.-based.polymer on the metabolic and.microbial profiles of pigs is not fully und.rstood.and.further exploration is need.d.However,current research suggest that various mechanisms are involved.in the enhanced.d.sease resistance and.performance in ETEC-challenged.pigs by supplementing this polymer.

Neuropathic pain after spinal cord.injury(SCI) is a complex cond.tion that respond. poorly to usual treatments. Cell transplantation represents a promising therapy;nevertheless, the id.al cell type in terms of neurogenic potential and.effectiveness against pain remains largely controversial. Here, we evaluated.the ability of fetal neural stem cells(fNSC) to relieve chronic pain and. second.rily, their effects on motor recovery. Ad.lt Wistar rats with traumatic SCI were treated. 10 d.ys after injury, with intra-spinal injections of culture med.um(sham) or fNSCs extracted.from telencephalic vesicles(TV group) or the ventral med.lla(VM group) of E/14 embryos. Sensory(von Frey filaments and.hot plate) and.motor(the Basso, Beattie,Bresnahan locomotor rating scale and.inclined.plane test) assessments were performed.d.ring 8 weeks. Thereafter, spinal cord. were processed.for immunofluorescence and.transplanted.cells were quantified.by stereology. The results showed.improvement of thermal hyperalgesia in the TV and.VM groups at 4 and.5 weeks after transplantation, respectively. Moreover, mechanical allod.nia improved.in both the TV and.VM groups at 8 weeks. No significant motor recovery was observed.in the TV or VM groups compared.with sham. Stereological analyses showed.that ~70% of TV and.VM cells d.fferentiated.into NeuN+ neurons,with a high proportion of enkephalinergic and.GABAergic cells in the TV group and.enkephalinergic and.serotoninergic cells in the VM group. Our stud. suggests that neuronal precursors from TV and.VM, once implanted.into the injured.spinal cord. maturate into d.fferent neuronal subtypes, mainly GABAergic, serotoninergic, and.enkephalinergic, and.all subtypes alleviate pain, d.spite no significant motor recovery. The stud. was approved.by the Animal Ethics Committee of the Med.cal School of the University of S?o Paulo(protocol number 033/14) on March 4, 2016.

BACKGROUNd.Pneumatosis cystoid.s intestinalis(PCI),characterized.by a collection of gas-filled.cysts in the intestinal wall,is an uncommon but well-known cond.tion in gastroenterology.Abd.minal pain is the most frequent symptom associated.with PCI.Intussusception represents a potential cause of recurrent abd.minal pain or emergency presentation.However,the occurrence of colonic intussusception second.ry to PCI is very unusual in ad.lthood.CASE SUMMARY A 52-year-old.male,known with id.opathic PCI,presented.seventeen months after initial d.agnosis with a new right upper quad.ant pain.A computed.tomographyscan d.monstrated.a colonic intussusception at the hepatic flexure.PCI d.d.not progress compared.with initial investigation.The patient und.rwent an emergency right hemicolectomy.CONCLUSION Resection was recommend.d.in this case because PCI proved.to be persisting with no id.ntified.curable cause.Surgery allowed.to ad.ress the und.rlying pathology,the potential relapse of intussusception,and.the likely cause of recurrent abd.minal pain,either invagination or PCI itself.

BACKGROUNd.Smartwatches have become read.ly accessible tools for d.tecting atrial fibrillation(AF).There remains limited.d.ta on how they affect psychosocial outcomes and.engagement in old.r ad.lts.We examine the health behavior outcomes of stroke survivors prescribed.smartwatches for AF d.tection stratified.by age.METHOd. We analyzed.d.ta from the Pulsewatch stud.,a rand.mized.controlled.trial that enrolled.patients(≥50 years)with a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack and.CHA2d.2-VASc≥2.Intervention participants were equipped.with a card.ac patch monitor and.a smartwatch-app d.ad.while control participants wore the card.ac patch monitor for up to 44 d.ys.We evaluated.health behavior parameters using stand.rd.zed.tools,includ.ng the Consumer Health Activation Ind.x,the Generalized.Anxiety d.sord.r questionnaire,the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey,and.wear time of participants categorized.into three age groups:Group 1(ages 50-60),Group 2(ages 61-69),and.Group 3(ages 70-87).We performed.statistical analysis using a mixed.ffects repeated.measures linear regression mod.l to examine d.fferences amongst age groups.RESULTS Comparative analysis between Groups 1,2 and.3 revealed.no significant d.fferences in anxiety,patient activation,perception of physical health and.wear time.The use of smartwatch technology was associated.with a d.crease in perception of mental health for Group 2 compared.to Group 1(β=-3.29,P=0.046).CONCLUSION Stroke survivors d.monstrated.a willingness to use smartwatches for AF monitoring.Importantly,among these stud. participants,the majority d.d.not experience negative health behavior outcomes or d.creased.engagement as age increased.

Poor bone quality is a major factor in skeletal fragility in eld.rly ind.vid.als.The molecular mechanisms that establish and.maintain bone quality,ind.pend.nt of bone mass,are unknown but are thought to be primarily d.termined.by osteocytes.We hypothesize that the age-related.d.cline in bone quality results from the suppression of osteocyte perilacunar/canalicular remod.ling(PLR),which maintains bone material properties.We examined.bones from young and.aged.mice with osteocyte-intrinsic repression of TGFβsignaling(TβRII^(ocy−/−))that suppresses PLR.The control aged.bone d.splayed.d.creased.TGFβsignaling and.PLR,but aging d.d.not worsen the existing PLR suppression in male TβRII^(ocy−/−)bone.This relationship impacted.the behavior of collagen material at the nanoscale and.tissue scale in macromechanical tests.The effects of age on bone mass,d.nsity,and.mineral material behavior were ind.pend.nt of osteocytic TGFβ.We d.termined.that the d.cline in bone quality with age arises from the loss of osteocyte function and.the loss of TGFβ-d.pend.nt maintenance of collagen integrity.

Reactive oxygen species are essential in photocatalytic water treatment.In this paper,Gd.d.ped.carbon nitrid.(CN)photocatalysts were prepared.by simple thermal polymerization for the photocatalytic d.grad.tion of tetracycline und.r visible light irrad.ation.The photod.grad.tion rate of *** is as high as 95%in 18 min,and.the photocatalytic performance is much higher than that of CN.The improvement of photocatalytic performance is mainly attributed.to the fact that Gd.ion implantation d.rectly provid.s active sites for oxygen activation and.ind.ces the formation of N vacancies.The results of characterizations show that the introd.ction of Gd.in CN can improve the conversion ability of activated.oxygen,carrier separation and.energy band.structure ad.ustment.Therefore,1.0Gd.N photocatalyst can be employed.for efficient photocatalytic synthesis of tetracycline.Furthermore,three ways of photocatalytic d.grad.tion of tetracycline were revealed.by high performance liquid.chromatographymass spectrometry.This work provid.s insights into the d.ping strategy of CN to improve the prod.ction of reactive oxygen species for environmental remed.ation.
