Improvement in renal functions with transcatheter aortic valve implantation

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES:In recent years, emerging transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become an alternative for surgery。 However, with advanced age, several co-morbid factors together with contrast agent usage can cause deterioration in renal function and increase in the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) with poor prognosis in patients with AKI。 Therefore, many patients cannot benefit from this treatment。 In this study, we aim to examine the effects of TAVI on renal functions。 METHODS AND RESULTS: Seventy patients, mean age of 77.6 years, underwent TAVI between July 2011 and December 2012。 Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated by using the Cockcroft and Gault Formula。 Patients were monitored for 48 h for urine output。 Stage 1 AKI, according to the VARC-2 AKIN system, developed in only five (7.1%) of the patients after the procedure。 There was a statistically significant increase between the mean 1(st) month eGFRs before (68。2 vs。 61.0, P < 0.01) and after (68。2 vs。 63.6, P < 0.05) the TAVI in the cohort。 After TAVI (48。5 mL/min, P < 0.01) and the 1(st) month (52.1 mL/min, P < 0.01), the eGFR of the 36 (51.4%) patients diagnosed with chronic kidney disease before the procedure showed a statistically significant increase in renal functions。 The hospital mortality rate was higher in the group which developed AKI (P < 0.01)。 First month eGFR showed a more statistically significant increase than pre-TAVI eGFR (62.8 and 69.8, P < 0.05, respectively) in AKI developing patients and this difference - though statistically not significant - continued into the sixth month。 CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we showed that the treatment of aortic stenosis through TAVI allows improvement of renal functions, and that AKI rates will be lower with careful patient selection, proper pre-procedural hydration, and careful use of contrast agent。

Numerical investigation of dynamic response and rupture properties of rock slopes subjected to earthquake triggering

Landslides triggered by seismic activity have led to substantial human and economic ***,the fundamental physical mechanisms underlying the vibration and rupture of rock slopes during earthquakes remain poorly *** this study,finite element method-based numerical simulations were conducted based on the rock slope at Dagangshan Hydropower Station in Sichuan province,***,systematic analysis in both the time and frequency domains were performed to examine the seismic dynamic characteristics of the ***,the transfer function method and the multiple stepwise linear regression method were employed to clarify the underlying mechanism and determine critical factors influencing the slope instability during ***-domain analysis reveals that rock slope dynamic response exhibits notable elevation,surface,and local amplification ***,the Peak Ground Acceleration(PGA)amplification coefficient(MPGA)is significantly higher at elevated locations,near the slope surface and in areas with ***,the existence of fracture zones and anti-shear galleries minimally influences the dynamic responses but considerably affect the ***,fracture zones exacerbate rupture,while anti-shear galleries mitigate ***-domain analysis indicates that the dynamic responses of the slope are closely correlated with the degree of slope *** earthquake magnitude increases,the rupture degree of the slope intensifies,and the dominant frequency of the response within the slope decreases,e.g.,its value shifts from 3.63 to 2.75 Hz at measurement point 9near the slope *** transfer function of rock slope,calculated under the excitation of wide flat spectrum white noise can reflect the interrelationships between the inherent properties and the rupture ***,the peak of the transfer function undergoes inversion as the degree of rupture ***,through multiple stepwise li

Distributed Observer for Full-Measured Nonlinear Systems Based on Knowledge of FMCF

Driven by practical applications, the achievement of distributed observers for nonlinear systems has emerged as a crucial advancement in recent years. However, existing theoretical advancements face certain limitations: They either fail to address more complex nonlinear phenomena, rely on hard-to-verify assumptions, or encounter difficulties in solving system ***, this paper aims to address these challenges by investigating distributed observers for nonlinear systems through the full-measured canonical form(FMCF), which is inspired by full-measured system(FMS) theory. To begin with, this study addresses the fact that the FMCF can only be obtained through the observable canonical form(OCF) in existing FMS *** paper demonstrates that a class of nonlinear systems can directly obtain FMCF through state space equations, independent of OCF. Also, a general method for solving FMCF in such systems is provided. Furthermore, based on the FMCF, A distributed observer is developed for nonlinear systems under two scenarios: Lipschitz conditions and open-loop bounded *** paper establishes their asymptotic omniscience and demonstrates that the designed distributed observer in this study has fewer design parameters and is more convenient to construct than existing approaches. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed methods is validated through simulation results on Van der Pol oscillators and microgrid systems.

Electrocatalytic nitrite reduction to ammonia on isolated bismuth alloyed ruthenium

Electrochemical reduction of NO_(2)-to NH_(3)(NO_(2)-RR) is recognized as an appealing approach for achieving renewable NH_(3)synthesis and waste NO_(2)-***,we report isolated Bi alloyed Ru (Bi1Ru) as an efficient NO_(2)-RR *** calculations and in situ electrochemical measurements reveal the creation of Bi1-Ru dual sites which can remarkably promote NO_(2)-activation and suppress proton adsorption,while accelerating the NO_(2)-RR protonation energetics to render a high NO_(2)--to-NH_(3)conversion ***,Bi1Ru assembled in a flow cell delivers an NH_(3)yield rate of 1901.4μmol h^(-1)cm^(-2)and an NH_(3)-Faradaic efficiency of 94.3%at an industrial-level current density of 324.3 mA cm^(-2).This study offers new perspectives for designing and constructing p-block single-atom alloys as robust and high-current-density NO_(2)-RR catalysts toward the ammonia electrosynthesis.

Dear Editor,This letter is concerned with stability analysis and stabilization design for sampled-data based load frequency control(LFC) systems via a data-driven method. By describing the dynamic behavior of LFC systems based on a data-based representation, a stability criterion is derived to obtain the admissible maximum sampling interval(MSI) for a given controller and a design condition of the PI-type controller is further developed to meet the required MSI. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed methods is verified by a case study.

Based on observed meteorological elements,photolysis rates(J-values)and pollutant concentrations,an automated J-values predicting system by machine learning(J-ML)has been developed to reproduce and predict the J-values of O^(1)D,NO_(2),HONO,H_(2)O_(2),HCHO,and NO_(3),which are the crucial values for the prediction of the atmospheric oxidation capacity(AOC)and secondary pollutant concentrations such as ozone(O_(3)),secondary organic aerosols(SOA).The J-ML can self-select the optimal“Model+Hyperparameters”without human *** evaluated results showed that the J-ML had a good performance to reproduce the J-values wheremost of the correlation(R)coefficients exceed 0.93 and the accuracy(P)values are in the range of 0.68-0.83,comparing with the J-values from observations and from the tropospheric ultraviolet and visible(TUV)radiation model in Beijing,Chengdu,Guangzhou and Shanghai,*** hourly prediction was also well performed with R from 0.78 to 0.81 for next 3-days and from 0.69 to 0.71 for next 7-days,*** with O_(3)concentrations by using J-values from the TUV model,an emission-driven observation-based model(e-OBM)by using the J-values from the J-ML showed a 4%-12%increase in R and 4%-30%decrease in ME,indicating that the J-ML could be used as an excellent supplement to traditional numerical *** feature importance analysis concluded that the key influential parameter was the surface solar downwards radiation for all J-values,and the other dominant factors for all J-values were 2-m mean temperature,O_(3),total cloud cover,boundary layer height,relative humidity and surface pressure.

The methane dry reforming(DRM)reaction can convert CO_(2)and CH_(4),both of which contribute to climate change,into syngas,which holds great significance in mitigating specific environmental issues stemming from the greenhouse ***,the challenges that persist include the substantial energy consumption and the catalyst’s susceptibility to deactivation,both of which necessitate ***,we developed a catalyst,PdCe/S1,featuring small-sized Pd species and CeO_(2)stabilized on pure silicon zeolite(silicalite-1),which is employed in the DRM *** can achieve 97%CH_(4)conversion and 98%CO_(2)conversion at 750℃,surpassing binary Pd/CeO_(2)and Pd/S1 *** small size of CeO_(2)stabilized by silicalite-1 promotes oxygen defects formation and enhances the CO_(2)adsorption *** introduction of silicalite-1 further enhances the interaction between Pd and CeO_(2),boosting DRM performance.
