PCR-RFLP Methodology to Identify <i>nocardia</i>Isolates in Cuba

nocardiosis diagnosis is a major challenge. The clinical features and radiological findings are nonspecific. Traditionally, nocardia identification is based on colonial and microscopical morphology and biochemical tests. However, molecular biology techniques allow a better characterization of species and biotypes. PCR-RFLP of the 65-kDa heat shock protein (HSP) gene provides a rapid, sensitive, and time and labor-efficient method for this proposal. Using this technique, six of eight isolates tested were identified as nocardia asteroides type VI. PCR-RFLP of the 65-kDa HSP gene could be very useful for determining the incidence of this pathogen in different population groups and its association with susceptibility/resistance profiles to the drugs of choice for treatment. This work is the first molecular detection of nocardia species in Cuba.

本文阐述了一种基于全局优化的算法——平均场遇上算法(简称MFA),及其在地震数据处理中的两个基本问题地震道反褶积和与表面有关的多次波衰减中的应用。基于平均场近似,MFA法用一套确定性的修正规则代替了模拟运火的随机性,且这些规则不是作用在变量自身上,而是作用在变量的均值上。当温度降低时,MFA规则根据前一温度上各个变量的值修正其变量。通过最小化平均值,MFA较常规模拟退火法能更快地收敛到平衡状态。修正规则依赖于价格函数的形式,在价格函数类似于Hopfield网络的能量函数时,很容易获得。将一个问题映射成Hopfield网络不是使用MFA的前提条件,但映射能使解析计算更为简单。通过将震源子波和反射系数用二值神经元表示,地震反褶积问题可映射到一个Hopfield网络。在本文中,当网络的神经元到达平衡状态时,问题就得到了解决。通过最小化MFA网络的价格函数并使用一个恰当的冷却进程表,就能使系统脱离局部最小值。假设一个一维的地质模型,用同样的思路来设计算子,此算子可用来衰减由平面波转化的地震记录中与表面有关的多次反射波。消除多次波问题的价格函数是基于被多次压制地震数据的最小能量标准的。

Aim: The purpose of this study was to understand the mechanism of nicotine mediated addiction and the role of oligoelements in reducing its effect. Methods: Male Wistar rats (weight 80 g) were treated with single and repeated doses of nicotine and/or oligoelements as follows: group 1 (control) naCl 0.9%;group 2, nicotine (1 mg/kg);group 3, oligoelements (50 μl/rat);and group 4, nicotine (1 mg/kg) + oligoelements (50 μl/rat). All drugs were intraperitoneally administered for 4 days. Blood for the measurement of glucose was obtained from all the animals. Samples of the brain regions (cortex, hemispheres and cerebellum + medulla oblongata) of each rat were obtained and used to measure the concentrations of dopamine, GSH levels, and lipid peroxidation (TBARS) using fluorescence and spectrophotometric methods. Results: Glucose level increased in rats treated with nicotine and oligoelements (p n cerebellum/medulla oblongata and hemispheres (p nimals. TBARS levels increased in cerebellum/medulla oblongata and hemispheres of animals treated with nicotine and oligoelements, but decreased in the same regions (p n rats treated only with oligoelements. The levels of dopamine decreased in cortex and hemispheres, but increased in cerebellum/medulla and oblongata regions of rats treated with both compounds (p nclusions: nicotine and oligoelements are associated with increase in the level of glucose, an effect that was more pronounced in the group treated with both drugs. Reduction of oxidative stress and dopamine metabolism may be involved in this effect.

BACKGROUnD Preoperative supplementation with immunonutrients, including arginine and n-3 fatty acids, has been shown in a number of systematic reviews to reduce infectious complications in patients who have undergone gastrointestinal surgery. Limited information, however, is available on the benefits of nutritional supplementation enriched with arginine and n-3 fatty acids in patients undergoing liver *** To evaluate the effects of preoperative nutritional supplementation enriched with arginine and n-3 fatty acids on inflammatory and immunologic markers and clinical outcome in patients undergoing liver *** Thirty-four patients undergoing liver resection were randomized to either five days of preoperative Impact? [1020 kcal/d, immunonutrition(IMn) group], or standard care [no supplementation, standard care(STD) group]. nutritional status was measured at study entry by subjective global assessment(SGA).Functional assessments(grip strength, fatigue and performance status) were carried out at study entry, on the day prior to surgery, and on postoperative day(POD) 7 and 30. Inflammatory and immune markers were measured at study entry, on the day prior to surgery, and POD 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 and 30. Postoperative complications were recorded prospectively until *** A total of 32 patients(17 IMn and 15 STD) were analysed. All except four patients were SGA class A. The plasma ratio of(eicosapentaenoic acid plus docosahexaenoic acid) to arachidonic acid was higher in IMn patients on the day prior to surgery and POD 1, 3, 5 and 7(P nterleukin(IL)-6 concentrations were elevated in the IMn group(P = 0.017 for POD7). no treatment effect was detected for functional measures, immune response(white cell count and total lymphocytes) or markers of inflammation(C-reactive protein,tumour necrosis factor-α, IL-8, IL-10).
