Analysis of Virus Sanitization Alternatives and Optimization of a Thermal Air Purifier for SARS-CoV-2

Air sanitization acquired renewed interest during the COVID-19 outbreak, especially in hospital rooms and intensive care units. In this work, mathematical analysis was done of the convenience of sanitizing the air of whole rooms or personalized isolation tents. Centralized air sanitization was found to have low effectiveness due to three reasons: 1) the constant virus emission from patients;2) the practical upper limits of air recycle flowrates;3) the low value of the minimum infective dose of SARS-CoV-2. Personalized air sanitization was the best option. Virus inactivation by thermal effect was then revisited, and a steady-state model was formulated for an efficient and personalized thermal sterilizer. An analytical solution was obtained for temperature and virus concentration in different parts of the sterilizer. Cell temperature was found to be the main variable for sterilization due to the Arrhenius-like form of the kinetic constant of virus deactivation. An objective cost function was written and subjected to conditions of minimum patient ventilation rate and minimum virus removal effectiveness. numerical optimization gave an optimal design with the intrinsic advantages of thermal sanitization, i.e., simplicity, robustness, minimum maintenance and high sanitization rate.

Background： nutrition is one of the most important factors that affect animal performance, and it therefore also impacts on financial results in beef systems. In this way, finding the best strategy for feeding supplements is of paramount importance. Aiming to evaluate the effect of supplement feeding strategies for beef cows in the last third of gestation, two experiments were conducted. In Experiment 1, 35 pregnant nellore cows were assigned to a completely randomized design with four treatments： control, which received no supplement; supplementation for the last 30 d of gestation（30-d; 3.0 kg/d）; supplementation for the last 60 d of gestation（60-d; 1.5 kg/d）; or supplementation for the last 90 d of gestation（90-d; 1.0 kg/d）. All supplemented treatments received the same total amount of supplement throughout the experiment： 90 kg（20% of crude protein）. A second experiment（Experiment 2） was delineated to evaluate the effects of the amounts offered in Experiment 1 on intake and metabolism. Four multiparous pregnant nellore cows were assigned to a 4 × 4 Latin square design, with periods of15 d ***： There was a linear effect of the number of days of supplementation on calving body weight（BW; P 〈 0.05）and a quadratic effect on BW change from parturition to d 31 post-calving（P 〈 0.05）, with cows on the 60-d strategy losing less BW post-calving. no difference was found in offspring birth BW（P 〉 0.10）. A significant linear effect on interval from parturition to conception（P 〈 0.05） was observed, with the highest calving to conception interval being observed in the 90-d strategy. The level of supplementation did not affect forage intake or neutral detergent fiber digestibility（P 〉 0.10）. nitrogen excreted through urine tended to increase linearly with the level of supplementation（P 〈 0.10）.Conclusion： Providing 1.5 kg of supplement during the last 60 d of gestation improves cow performance after calving, reducing the magnitude of BW lost, and reduces the number of

Effectiveness of dry needling on reducing pain intensity in patients with myofascial pain syndrome： a Meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the literature about the effectiveness of dry needling(Dn) on relieving pain and increasing range of motion(rom) in individuals with myofascial pain syndrome(MPS).METHODS: Papers published from January 2000 to January 2013 were identified through an electronic search in the databases MEDLInE, Dialnet, Cochrane Library Plus, Physiotherapy Evidence Database(PEDro) and Spanish Superior Council of Scientific Research(CSIC). The studies included were randomized controlled trials written in English and/or Spanish about the effectiveness of Dn on pain and rom in individuals with ***: Out of 19 clinical trials that were potentially relevant, a total of 10 were included in the Meta-analysis. Regarding pain intensity reduction when measured before and immediately after the intervention, Dn achieved improvement compared with the placebo treatment [d =-0.49; 95% CI(-3.21, 0.42)] and with the control group [d =-9.13;95% CI(- 14.70,- 3.56)]. However, other treatments achieved better results on the same variable compared with Dn, considering the measurements for pre-treatment and immediately after [d = 2.54;95% CI(-0.40, 5.48)], as well as the pre-treatment and after 3-4 weeks [d = 4.23; 95% CI(0.78, 7.68)].Dn showed a significantly increased rom when measured before the intervention and immediately after, in comparison with the placebo [d = 2.00;95% CI(1.60, 2.41)]. However, other treatments achieved a significant better result regarding rom when it was measured before the intervention and immediately after, as compared with Dn [d =-1.42;95% CI(-1.84,-0.99)].COnCLUSIOn: Dn was less effective on decreasing pain comparing to the placebo group. Other treatments were more effective than Dn on reducing pain after 3-4 weeks. However, on increasing rom,Dn was more effective comparing to that of placebo group, but less than other treatments.
