Canopy storage Implications on Interception Loss Modeling

A rainfall interception methodology was implemented in a deciduous Ficus benjamina (L.) tree to evaluate the interception loss, as well as the dynamics on canopy storage capacity (s) and free through fall (ρ). Measurements of gross precipitation (Pg), through fall and meteorological data were recorded every 5 minutes. Nineteen individual storms from summer to autumn 2005, and twenty one in spring to autumn, 2006 were analyzed. For the studied period, 151.59 mm and 203.35 mm of rainfall occurred on 2005 and 2006 respectively. Canopy interception was 59.46% and 70.98% of Pg for the first and second year. Throughfall data recorded during 2005 were ?38.14% (of Pg) and 27.21% (of Pg) for 2006. The throughfall and gross precipitation relationship yielded s = 1.50 mm for the 2005 data. In 2006 storms were analyzed in detail, where ρ and s varied in a range from 0.10 to 0.64 and from 1.00 to 2.03 mm, respectively. Moreover, application of the Rutter and Gash models with two years of rainfall data (2005-2006) from the study area indicated an underestimation and overestimation of 69% and 88%, respectively. The slightly best prediction of the interception loss was obtained with the Gash model. Yet s and ρ change significantly due to wind speed, temperature, rainfall intensity and seasonal vegetation development.

We studied the role that electron gas has on the formation of nuclear structures at subsaturation densities and low temperatures(Tsing a classical molecular dynamics model we studied isospin symmetric and asymmetric matter at subsaturation densities and low temperatures varying the Coulomb interaction *** effect of such variation was quantified on the fragment size multiplicity,the inter-particle distance,the isospin content of the clusters,the nucleon mobility and cluster persistence,and on the nuclear structure *** found that the presence of an electron gas distributes matter more evenly,disrupts the formation of larger objects,reduces the isospin content,and modifies the nucleon average displacement,but does not affect the inter-nucleon distance in *** nuclear structures are also found to change shapes by different degrees depending on their isospin content,temperature and density.

Fabrication of UV responsive micelles-containing multilayers and their influence on cell adhesion

Multilayers incorporated with stimuli-responsive substances by means of layer-by-layer(LbL) self-assembly are much attractive due to their advantages of stimuli-responsiveness and potential applications in different fields. In this study, pyrenemethyl acrylate(PA) was synthesized, and was copolymerized with acrylic acid(AA) to obtain the amphiphilic and photodegradable P(PA-co-AA)polymers with a PA:AA molar ratio of 1.3:3, and an average molecular weight of 6.9 kDa and polydispersity index of 1.04. They formed micelles spontaneously when dispersed in aqueous solution with a size of 27.5 nm in a dry state and 136.6 nm in a wet state. The micelles were readily decomposed to form aggregates as a result of the cleavage of the pyrenemethyl ester bonds under UV-irradiation. UV-responsive micelles-containing multilayers were prepared by LbL self-assembly of the UV-responsive micelles and polyallylamine hydrochloride(PAH). UV-irradiation of the multilayers resulted in the decomposition of micelles, leading to larger surface roughness, and enhanced swelling ratio and wettability of the multilayers. In vitro culture of A549, HepG2 and endothelial cells showed significantly better adhesion at 4 h on the UV-illuminated multilayers, whereas the cell proliferation was not affected significantly until 5 d.

Whole blood platelet aggregometry in HIV-infected patients on treatment with abacavir

Purpose: To assess platelet activity in HIV-patients with and without antiretroviral therapy (ART), analysing the influence of the presence or absence of ABC in the regimen. Methods: Observational, pilot study, including 30 asymptomatic HIV-patients: 20 on ART for at least 24 weeks and with undetectable HIV viral load - 10 on ABC, 10 on tenofovir (TDF) - and 10 na?ve patients, and a control group of 10 HIV-negative subjects. No subject was receiving drugs with antiagregant activity. Platelet activity was assessed by measuring time-dependent platelet aggregometry (electrical impedance on fasting whole blood), induced by ADP (1.25, 2.5 μM), collagen (0.5, 1 μg/mL), arachidonic acid (100, 200 μM), and U46619 (receptor agonist of the tromboxano A2) (1.25, 2.5 μM). statistic program: sPss, 16.0. Results: Demographic, anthropometric data, and cardiovascular risk factors were similar in all groups, but older age and longer time of HIV infection in the ABC group (50.4 vs 36.1, 34.2 and 42.7 years, respectively;p s 88.1 and 48.3 months in the two other groups of HIV patients;p s count was 564/mm3. Platelet aggregation with exposure to U46619 was higher in the ABC compared with the TDF group (11.1 vs 4.4%;p = 0.007), na?ve patients (11.1 vs 5.7%;p = 0.014), and the HIV-negative group (11.1 vs 6.5%;p = 0.04). These differences remained significant when controlled for age and time of HIV infection. Conclusions: ABC increases platelet aggregability possibly in relation with the receptor of tromboxano. Wider studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis.

In this study,310 destructively sampled plots were used to develop two equation systems for the three main pine species in NW spain(***;*** and ***):one for estimating loads of understorey fuel components by size and condition(live and dead)and another one for forest floor *** systems of equations were simultaneously fitted for estimating fuel loads using overstorey,understorey and forest floor variables as *** systems of equations included both the effect of pine species and the effect of understorey compositions dominated by ferns-brambles or by woody species,due to their obvious structural and physiological *** general,the goodness-of-fit statistics indicated that the estimates were reasonably robust and accurate for all of the fuel *** best results were obtained for total understorey vegetation,total forest floor and raw humus fuel loads,with more than 76%of the observed variability explained,whereas the poorest results were obtained for coarse fuel loads of understory vegetation with a 53%of observed variability *** reduce the overall costs associated with the field inventories necessary for operational use of the models,the additive systems were fitted again using only overstorey variables as potential *** relationships for fine(storey vegetation and total forest floor fuel loads were obtained,indicating the complexity of the forest overstorey-understorey and overstorey-forest floor ***,these models explained around 52%of the observed ***,equations estimating the total understorey vegetation and the total forest floor fuel loads based only on canopy cover were *** models explained only 26%-32%of the observed variability;however,their main advantage is that although understorey vegetation in forested landscapes is largely invisible to remote sensing,canopy cover can be estimated with moderate accuracy,allowin

Oil production and mainte nance are essential issues in naturally fractured reservoirs because they are the largest and most productive on ***,they present early water and gas channeling but could be remediated by using foaming agents to control these phenomena through blocking channeling *** Mexico these reservoirs have pressure up to 5,500 psi,high temperature up to 200℃,salinity up to400,000 ppm,and hardness up to 250,000 ppm;due to these thermodynamic conditions,there has been no available technology to form stable enough *** this work,a foaming supramolecular surfactant with the capability to chelate Ca^(2+)ions is *** a result,surfactant monomers are bridged by captured Ca^(2+)cations leading to the formation of high-molecular-weight oligomers,which significantly increment the viscosity of the solution improving the foam stability,and since at this manner the Ca2+cations are no longer available to precipitate as components of solid salts,the foaming supramolecular surfactant also performs as *** observations are explained through quantum theoretical *** foam is stable,effectively blocking the gas channels,whereas in presence of oil the foam is broken leading the oil to pass into the *** characteristic rheological properties of the foam allow its injection into the formation at a range of flow rates,foam qualities,and shear stress to achieve the flooding and the blocking of a variety of fractured carbonate formations,and the change of the wettability of the matrix,which is a desirable behavior in a huff and puff process,as reported in a previous publication about a successful pilot test of this foam.

All existing experimental evidence for the bound state nature of X(3872)relies on observing its decay products,which are measured with a finite experimental mass resolution that is typically△m≥2 MeV,and much larger than its alleged binding energy,BX=0.00(18)*** the other hand,we have found recently that there is a clear cancellation in the 1^++channel of the invariant DD^*mass around the threshold between continuum and the bound *** is very much like a similar cancellation in the proton-neutron continuum with the deuteron in the 1^++*** on comparative fits with a common Tsallis distribution of the experimental cross-sections for prompt production of deuterons and X(3872)in pp collisions with a finite pT,we find a strong argument for questioning the bound state nature of this state,which also suggests that the large observed production rate could be consistent with a half-bound state.

Ascorbic acid and prunasin,two candidate biomarkers for endodormancy release in almond flower buds identified by a nontargeted metabolomic study

Temperate fruit trees belonging to Prunus species have the ability to suspend(induce dormancy)and resume growth periodically in response to environmental and seasonal *** release requires the long-term accumulation of *** accumulation of cultivar-specific chill requirements,plants enter the state of ecodormancy,which means the ability to grow has been restored,depending on the fulfilment of heat *** many different metabolic pathways are implicated in endodormancy release,we have performed a metabolomic analysis,using the ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–quadrupole time-of-flying(UPLC–QToF)*** assayed flower buds in different stages of endodormancy in four almond cultivars with different flowering times:the extra-early Desmayo Largueta,the late Antoñeta,the extra-late Penta,and the ultra-late *** orthogonal projection to latent-structure discriminant-analysis model was created to observe differences between endodormant and ecodormant flower *** metabolites showing the most significant variation were searched against the Metlin,HMDB,and KEGG libraries,which allowed us to identify 87 *** metabolites were subsequently assigned to specific pathways,such as abscisic acid biosynthesis,phenylpropanoid biosynthesis,and D-sorbitol metabolism,among *** two metabolites that exhibited the most significant variations in all the cultivars studied with fold changes of up to 6.49 were ascorbic acid and *** the first time,these two metabolites have been proposed as potential biomarkers for endodormancy release in *** the high synteny present between the Rosaceae species,these results could be extrapolated to other important crops like peach,plum,cherry,or apricot,among others.

AIMTo analyze the diagnostic yield (DY), therapeutic impact (TI) and safety of capsule endoscopy (CE).METHODsThis is a multi-centre, observational, analytical, retrospective study. A total of 163 patients with suspicion of celiac disease (CD) (mean age = 46.4 ± 17.3 years, 68.1% women) who underwent CE from 2003 to 2015 were included. Patients were divided into four groups: seronegative CD with atrophy (Group-I, n = 19), seropositive CD without atrophy (Group-II, n = 39), contraindication to gastroscopy (Group-III, n = 6), seronegative CD without atrophy, but with a compatible context (Group-IV, n = 99). DY, TI and the safety of CE were *** overall DY was 54% and the final diagnosis was villous atrophy (n = 65, 39.9%), complicated CD (n = 12, 7.4%) and other enteropathies (n = 11, 6.8%; 8 Crohn’s). DY for groups I to IV was 73.7%, 69.2%, 50% and 44.4%, respectively. Atrophy was located in duodenum in 24 cases (36.9%), diffuse in 19 (29.2%), jejunal in 11 (16.9%), and patchy in 10 cases (15.4%). Factors associated with a greater DY were positive serology (68.3% vs 49.2%, P = 0.034) and older age (P = 0.008). On the other hand, neither sex nor clinical presentation, family background, positive histology or HLA status were associated with DY. CE results changed the therapeutic approach in 71.8% of the cases. Atrophy was associated with a greater TI (92.3% vs 45.3%, P s responded to diet. There was one case of capsule retention (0.6%). Agreement between CE findings and subsequent histology was 100% for diagnosing normal/other conditions, 70% for suspected CD and 50% for complicated *** has a high DY in cases of suspicion of CD and it leads to changes in the clinical course of the disease. CE is safe procedure with a high degree of concordance with histology and it helps in the differential diagnosis of CD.
