This study aims to analyze the factors affecting the costs of different logging systems, in particular considering three different bunching-extraction methods. Moreover the stumpage value of each plot was calculated, and a comparison analysis of the results is presented. The work was carried out in Central Italy, in an aged Quercus cerris L. coppice in hill zones, with a 45% average slope. Short wood system harvesting was applied. Felling and processing were performed by chainsaw, while extraction with three different methods： plot No. 1 with mules, plot No. 2 with a tractor with winch, plot No. 3 with polyethylene chute line. Transport of firewood from the forest track to the landing was made by a tractor loaded as a mule. In the plot No. 1 the costs per unit mass （30.76 ∈·t33% ^-1） were higher despite having the lower cost per hour （39.99∈·th^- 1）. The reason was the lower productivity （1.3 t33%·h^-1）. The plot No. 2 had the highest cost per hour （66.79 ∈·h^-1）. However, productivity was the highest （2.7 t33%·h^- 1）. This aspect was notable from the financial point of view （24.74 ∈·t33%^-1）. Plot No. 3 was the less expensive （23.92 ∈·t33%^-1）. Comparing the three methods, a reduction of the costs through more appropriate extraction systems may increase the stumpage value from 8.3 to 9.65 ∈·t33%^- 1.

Hepatitis C virus(HCV) affects about 3% of the world's population and peaks in subjects aged over 40 years. Its prevalence in pregnant women is low(1%-2%) in most western countries but drastically increases in women in developing countries or with high risk behav-iors for blood-transmitted infections. Here we review clinical, prognostic and therapeutic aspects of HCV in-fection in pregnant women and their offspring infected through vertical transmission. Pregnancy-related im-mune weakness does not seem to affect the course of acute hepatitis C but can affect the progression of chronic hepatitis C. In fact, postpartum immune res-toration can exacerbate hepatic inflammation, thereby worsening the liver disease, particularly in patients with liver cirrhosis. HCV infection increases the risk of gestational diabetes in patients with excessive weight gain, premature rupture of membrane and caesarean delivery. Only 3%-5% of infants born to HCV-positive mothers have been infected by intrauterine or perinatal transmission. Maternal viral load, human immunode-ficiency virus coinfection, prolonged rupture of mem-branes, fetal exposure to maternal infected blood con-sequent to vaginal or perineal lacerations and invasive monitoring of fetus increase the risk of viral transmis-sion. Cesarean delivery and breastfeeding increases the transmission risk in HCV/human immunodeficiency virus coinfected women. The consensus is not to offer antivi-ral therapy to HCV-infected pregnant women because it is based on ribavirin(pregnancy category X) because of its embryocidal and teratogenic effects in animal spe-cies. In vertically infected children, chronic C hepatitis is often associated with minimal or mild liver disease and progression to liver cirrhosis and hepatocarcinoma is lower than in adults. Infected children may be treated after the second year of life, given the adverse effects of current antiviral agents.

The design of new heterogeneous photooxygenation systems able to employ visible light,oxygen,mild temperatures,and solvent with a low environmental impact has been investigated. In particular,the heterogenization of decatungstate (W10O4-32),a polyoxometalate with photocatalytic activity in oxidation reactions,has been carried out in polymeric membranes of polyvinylidenefluoride. The polymeric catalytic membranes prepared by phase inversion technique have been successfully applied in the aerobic mineralization of phenol in water,which was used as an example of organic pollutant. In order to evaluate the effect of the polymeric environment on the overall catalyst behavior,we have also heterogenized the decatungstate (opportunely functionalized) in perfluorinated membrane made of Hyflon. The photocatalytic composite membranes are characterized by different and tuneable properties depending on the nature of the polymeric micro-environment,in which the catalyst is confined. Moreover,the selective separation function of the membrane results in enhanced performance in comparison with homogeneous reactions.

BACKGROUND There is still large debate on feasibility and advantages of fast-track protocols in elderly population after colorectal *** To investigate the impact of age on feasibility and short-term results of enhanced recovery protocol(ERP)after laparoscopic colorectal *** Data from 225 patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal resection and ERP between March 2014 and July 2018 were retrospectively *** groups were considered according to patients’age:Group A,65 years old or less,Group B,66 to 75 years old and Group C,76 years old or *** and pathological data were compared amongst groups together with post-operative outcomes including post-operative overall and surgery-specific complications,mortality and readmission *** in post-operative length of stay and adherence to ERP’s items were evaluated in the three study *** Among the 225 patients,112 belonged to Group A,57 to Group B and 56 to Group ***-day overall morbidity was 32.9%whilst mortality was *** the percentage of complications progressively increased with age(25.9%vs 36.8%vs 42.9%),no differences were observed in the rate of major complications(4.5%vs 3.5%vs 1.8%),prolonged post-operative ileus(6.2%vs 12.2%vs 10.7%)and anastomotic leak(2.7%vs 1.8%vs 1.8%).Significant differences in recovery outcomes between groups were observed such as delayed urinary catheter removal(P=0.032)and autonomous deambulation(P=0.013)in elderly *** discharge criteria were achieved later in older patients(3 d vs 3 d vs 4 d,P=0.040),post-operative length of stay was similar in the 3 groups(5 d vs 6 d vs 6 d).CONCLUSION ERPs can be successfully and safely applied in elderly undergoing laparoscopic colorectal resection.

BACKGROUND： The use of laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy（LDP） increased in the past twenty years but the real diffusion of this technique is still unknown as well as the type of centers（high or low volume） in which this procedure is more frequently *** SOURCE： A systematic review was performed to evaluate the frequency of LDP in Italy and to compare indications and results in high volume centers（HVCs） and in low volume centers（LVCs）.RESULTS： From 95 potentially relevant citations identified, only5 studies were included. A total of 125 subjects were analyzed, of whom 95（76.0%） were from HVCs and 30（24.0%） from *** mean number of LDPs performed per year was 6.5. The mean number of patients who underwent LDP per year was 8.8in HVCs and 3.0 in LVCs（P0.001）. The most frequent lesions operated on in HVCs were cystic tumors（62.1%, P0.001） while,in LVCs, solid neoplasms（76.7%, P0.001）. In HVCs, malignant neoplasms were treated with LDP less frequently than in LVCs（17.9% vs 50.0%, P〈0.001）. Splenectomy was performed for non-oncologic reason frequenter in HVCs than in LVCs（70.2%vs 25.0%, P0.004）. The length of stay was shorter in HVCs than in LVCs（7.5 vs 11.3, P0.001）. No differences were found regarding age, gender, ductal adenocarcinoma treated, operative time, conversion, morbidity, postoperative pancreatic fistula,reoperation and margin ***： LDPs were frequently performed in *** ＂HVC approach＂ is characterized by a careful selection of patients undergoing LDP. The ＂LVC approach＂ is based on the hypothesis that LDPs are equivalent both in short-term and long-term results to laparotomic approach. These data are not conclusive and they point out the need for a national register of laparoscopic pancreatectomy.

Bone regeneration with adipose derived stem cells in a rabbit model

It has been shown that stem cells are able to calcify both in vitro and in vivo once implanted under the skin, if conveniently differentiated. Nowadays, however, a study on their efficiency in osseous regeneration does not exist in scientific literature and this very task is the real aim of the present experimentation. Five different defects of 6 mm in diameter and 2 mm in depth were created in the calvaria of 8 white New Zealand rabbits. Four defects were regenerated using 2 different conveniently modified scaffolds(Bio-Oss Block and Bio-Oss Collagen, Geistlich),with and without the aid of stem cells. After the insertion, the part was covered with a collagen membrane fixed by 5 modified titan pins(Altapin). The defect in the front was left empty on purpose as an internal control to each *** animals were sacrificed respectively after 2, 4, 6, 10 weeks. The samples were evaluated with micro-CT and histological analysis. Micro-CT analysis revealed that the quantity of new bone for samples with Bio-Oss Block and stem cells was higher than for samples with Bio-Oss Block alone. Histological analysis showed that regeneration occurred in an optimal way in every sample treated with scaffolds. The findings indicated that the use of adult stem cells combined with scaffolds accelerated some steps in normal osseous regeneration.

Generally forest fires are related to human activities and need an effective fire prevention and suppression organization, based on a deep knowledge of the territory, fire behaviour and suppression system resources network. To organise monitoring, prevention and fire fighting operations, the knowledge of the risk level for different areas is important. To evaluate the probability that a forest fire occurs and to organise prevention and management of fire fighting activities, both simple and easy-to-use risk and operational difficulty indices were implemented. CNR-IBIMET and DISTAF Dept., on commitment of Tuscany Region, developed a multistep process for the evaluation of the risk, that can be used to assess land planning and to organise seasonal fire fighting resources. This model is called Final Risk Index (FRI);it is the result of the combination of the following two indices, which are initially developed separately. The concerned indices are the Global Risk Index (GRI), and Operational Difficulty Index in Fire Fighting (ODIF). The fire risk index processes different parameters to generate two hazards: static and dynamic, merged to obtain the Global Risk Index (GRI). It is very helpful to estimate the probability of forest fire occurrence, but it does not provide information on forest fire extinction difficulties. The operational difficulty index in fire fighting (ODIF) resumes all the factors affecting fire fighting activity by air and by ground and suggests the extinction efficiency of forest fires in a given area. Thus FRI improves aspects of the fire prevention planning, focused to the needs of a public operative structure. The objective was modelling the links between the main components in ignition and fire fighting actions to produce an easy to use tool to face the emergences, also foreseeing forest fires regime changes in the coming decades.
