Geostatistical Modeling of Uncertainty for the Risk Analysis of a Contaminated Site

This work is a study of multivariate simulations of pollutants to assess the sampling uncertainty for the risk analysis of a contaminated site. The study started from data collected for a remediation project of a steel- works in northern Italy. The soil samples were taken from boreholes excavated a few years ago and analyzed by a chemical laboratory. The data set comprises concentrations of several pollutants, from which a subset of ten organic and inorganic compounds were selected. The first part of study is a univariate and bivariate sta- tistical analysis of the data. All data were spatially analyzed and transformed to the Gaussian space so as to reduce the effects of extreme high values due to contaminant hot spots and the requirements of Gaussian simulation procedures. The variography analysis quantified spatial correlation and cross-correlations, which led to a hypothesized linear model of coregionalization for all variables. Geostatistical simulation methods were applied to assess the uncertainty. Two types of simulations were performed: correlation correction of univariate sequential Gaussian simulations (SGS), and sequential Gaussian co-simulations (SGCOS). The outputs from the correlation correction simulations and SGCOS were analyzed and grade-tonnage curves were produced to assess basic environmental risk.

The main aim of antineoplastic treatment is to maximize patient benefit by augmenting the drug accumulation within affected organs and tissues,thus incrementing drug effects and,at the same time,reducing the damage of non-involved tissues to cytotoxic *** stromal cells(MSC)represent a group of undifferentiated multipotent cells presenting wide self-renewal features and the capacity to differentiate into an assortment of mesenchymal family *** the last year,they have been proposed as natural carriers for the selective release of antitumor drugs to malignant cll,s thus optimizing cytotoxic action on cancer cll,while significantly reducing adverse side efect on healthy *** chemotherapeutic drug loading and delivery is an encouraging new area of cell therapy for several tumors,especially for those with unsatisfactory prognosis and limited treatment options *** some experim ental models have been sucesfuly developed,phase I dinical studies are needed to confirm this potential application of cell therapy,in particular in the case of primary and secondary lung cancers.

Financial Statement Valuations in Italian Accounting Thought Between the 19th and the 20th Century： From ＂Exchange Value＂ to ＂Historical Cost＂

The main subject of this paper is the theory of financial statement valuations observed in its historical development. More notably, regarding the subject, the research is concerned with some theoretical concepts developed by the Italian doctrine in a very specific age, namely, between the 19th and the 20th century, which in fact, devoid of any accounting regulation. This paper analyzes in particular the shift from the exchange value rule to the historical cost method and tries to explain the reasons of such a development. In the second half of the 19th century, some of the best Italian scholars, who were faced with the need to properly develop the problem of accounting valuations, thought that it was appropriate to rely on concepts that belonged to similar sciences, such as economics and real estate appraisal, by blindly borrowing the theory of value from the former and the theory of valuations from the latter. During that age, everything hinged around the concept of exchange value. At the dawn of the 20th century, the Italian accounting doctrine began to wonder about a subject that was crucial to the financial statement theory： the informative purposes underlying the financial statements. At the same time, the first principle took shape, which might be called as the ＂finalistic principle of value＂. It is still the basis of the theory of financial accounting measurements, for which different evaluative criteria must be applied to different informative purposes. Thus, an alternative criterion to that of the exchange value makes its appearance on the scene of the accounting valuations, notably the historical cost. The introduction of the historical cost criteria and above all the relinquishment of the combination of the ＂economic cost＂ in favor of that of the ＂manufacturing cost＂ allow the Italian accounting to get rid of the theories of economics and real estate appraisal, thus, becoming independent regarding the financial statement valuations.

A standard assumption when modelling linked sample data is that the stochastic properties of the linking process and process underpinning the population values of the response variable are independent of one *** is often referred to as non-informative *** what if linkage errors are informative?In this paper,we provide results from two simulation experiments that explore two potential informative linking *** first is where the choice of sample record to link is dependent on the response;and the second is where the probability of correct linkage is dependent on the *** focus on the important and widely applicable problem of estimation of domain means given linked data,and provide empirical evidence that while standard domain estimation methods can be substantially biased in the presence of informative linkage errors,an alternative estimation method,based on a Gaussian approximation to a maximum likelihood estimator that allows for non-informative linkage error,performs well.

All vessels and offshore units require regular inspections to prevent structural or functional damages. Periodical inspections are based on classification society＇s requirements and include both visual surveys and non-destructive test interventions, to look for structural damage, pitting, corrosion, thickness measurement, usually documented by measurements or images. Different approaches of inspection can be proposed for underwater and for dry areas, using unmanned vehicles or service robots able to improve traditional inspection methods. Several excellent proposals are today available： nevertheless, reasons of costs, operation complexity and impossibility to cover all types of inspection with a unique autonomous unit limit and conditions the applicability of automatic inspection systems. The paper is the first of a series describing the main results of a wide research activity carried out at DREAMS Lab （Laboratory of Drives and Experimental Automation for Marine Systems） of the University of Genoa. The studies are oriented to the realization of a kit of low cost and unsophisticated self-moving units, devoted to support some recursive inspections in dry areas of ships and on offshore plants as bulkheads, holds, double bottoms and ducts. The paper describes the design and prototyping of a pneumatronic unit oriented to inspection and maintenance of ship holds. Conceived to realize a portable and user-friendly tool which could take part of an ＂inspection kit＂ for the use of inspectors, able to simplify and speed up the inspection visits with and automatic generation of survey reports.

In this paper, I will focus on the debate between descriptivism and anti-descriptivism theory about proper names. In the introduction, l will propose an historical reconstruction of the debate, and focus in particular on Russell and Kripke＇s treatments of proper names. Strong criticisms will be advanced against Kripke＇s hypothesis of rigid-designator and, more deafly, against the consequent distinction between the epistemic and metaphysical level that Kripke proposes to explain identity assertions between proper names. Furthermore, I will argue, that, pace Kripke, Russellian treatment of proper names allows to capture all our semantic intuitions, and also those semantic interpretations which concern context-belief sentences. I will close the introduction by focusing on a criticism that Kripke rightly points out against an example that Russell proposes in his On Denoting. Section 2 will be devoted to Russellian solution： I will show that not only Russell＇s logical treatment of proper names allows to answer to Kripke＇s criticism to Russell＇s example, but also that such treatment can disambiguate and express all our semantic intuitions about Frege＇s puzzle sentence ＂Hesperus is Phosphorus.＂ ! will then show that, contrarily, Quinian solution （discussed in section 3） and Kripkian one （see section 4） are not satisfactory to capture our semantic knowledge about Frege＇s sentence. Furthermore, in section 5, I will focus on Kripke＇s distinction between epistemic and metaphysical level to deal with identity assertions between proper names, and I will logically show that such distinction is not plausible. In section 5, then, I will show that Russellian solution allows to explain context-belief sentences, contrarily to what Kripke thinks. In Conclusions, I will summarize what 1 have argued in the text.

Though membrane distillation(MD)has gained more and more attention in the field of desalination,the wetting phenomenon was still a non-negligible *** this work,a method combined dip-coating and UV in situ polymerization for preparing hydrophobic/hydrophilic perfluoropolyether(PFPE)/polyvinylidene fluoride composite *** composite membrane consisted of a top thin hydrophobic coating layer and hydrophilic substrate *** terms of anti-wetting properties,contact angle and liquid entry pressure of all composite membranes(except for those based on 0.45μm)exceeded 160°and 0.3 MPa,*** particular,the desalination performance was tested in vacuum membrane distillation tests by feeding 3.5%(mass)saline solution(NaCl)at 60℃.The composite membranes with larger support pore size and lower PFPE content had higher membrane distillation *** for stability tests(testing the 0.22μm membrane coated by 5%(mass)PFPE),the highest MD flux29.08 kg·m^(-2)·h^(-1) and stable salt rejection(over 99.99%)during the *** that,the effects of coating material concentration and pore sizes of substrate membrane were also investigated for surface morphology and topography,porosity,mechanical strength and pore size *** work provided a simple and effective alternative to prepare excellent hydrophobic composite membranes for MD applications.
