Ontologies of research areas are important tools for characterizing,exploring,and analyzing the research *** fields of research are comprehensively described by large-scale taxonomies,e.g.,MeSH in Biology and PhySH in ***,current Computer Science taxonomies are coarse-grained and tend to evolve *** instance,the ACM classification scheme contains only about 2K research topics and the last version dates back to *** this paper,we introduce the Computer Science Ontology(CSO),a large-scale,automatically generated ontology of research areas,which includes about 14K topics and 162K semantic *** was created by applying the Klink-2 algorithm on a very large data set of 16M scientific *** presents two main advantages over the alternatives:i)it includes a very large number of topics that do not appear in other classifications,and ii)it can be updated automatically by running Klink-2 on recent corpora of *** powers several tools adopted by the editorial team at Springer Nature and has been used to enable a variety of solutions,such as classifying research publications,detecting research communities,and predicting research *** facilitate the uptake of CSO,we have also released the CSO Classifier,a tool for automatically classifying research papers,and the CSO Portal,a Web application that enables users to download,explore,and provide granular feedback on *** can use the portal to navigate and visualize sections of the ontology,rate topics and relationships,and suggest missing *** portal will support the publication of and access to regular new releases of CSO,with the aim of providing a comprehensive resource to the various research communities engaged with scholarly data.

Green process engineering, which is based on the principles of the process intensification strategy, can provide an important contribution toward achieving industrial sustainable development. Green process engineering refers to innovative equipment and process methods that are expected to bring about substan- tial improvements in chemical and any other manufacturing and processing aspects. It includes decreasing production costs, equipment size, energy consumption, and waste generation, and improving remote con- trol, information fluxes, and process flexibility. Membrane-based technology assists in the pursuit of these principles, and the potential of membrane operations has been widely recognized in the last few years. This work starts by presenting an overview of the membrane operations that are utilized in water treatment and in the production of energy and raw materials. Next, it describes the potential advantages of innovative membrane-based integrated systems. A case study on an integrated membrane system （IMS） for seawa- ter desalination coupled with raw materials production is presented. The aim of this work is to show how membrane systems can contribute to the realization of the goals of zero liquid discharge （ZLD）, total raw materials utilization, and low energy consumption.

Helicobacter pylori infection in obesity and its clinical outcome after bariatric surgery

Publishing NextGEOSS data on the GEOSS Platform

This paper is the second of a series that describes some of the main dataset resources presently shared through the GEOSS Platform. The GEOSS Platform was created as the technological tool to implement interoperability among the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS);it is a brokering infrastructure that presently brokers more than 190 autonomous data catalogs and information systems. This paper is focused on the analysis of the NextGEOSS datasets describing the data publishing process from NextGEOSS to the GEOSS platform. In particular, both the administrative registration and the technical registration were taken into consideration. One of the most important data shared by the GEOSS Platform are the NextGEOSS datasets: the present study provides some insights in terms of GEOSS user searches for NextGEOSS data.

Language training for oral and written naming impairment in primary progressive aphasia:a review

Background Primary progressive aphasia(PPA)is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a gradual,insidious and progressive loss of language abilities,with naming difficulties being an early and persistent impairment common to all three *** the absence of effective pharmacological treatments and given the progressive nature of the disorder,in the past few decades,many studies have investigated the effectiveness of language training to minimize the functional impact of word-finding difficulties in daily *** body We review language treatments most commonly used in clinical practice among patients with different variants of PPA,with a focus on the enhancement of spoken and written naming *** of gains to the ability to name untrained stimuli or to other language abilities and the maintenance of these results over time are also ***-eight studies were included in this literature review,identifying four main types of language treatment:a)lexical retrieval treatment,b)phonological and/or orthographic treatment,c)semantic treatment,and d)a multimodality approach ***,language training is able to induce immediate improvements of naming abilities in all variants of ***,despite the large variability among results,generalization and long-term effects can be recorded after the *** reviewed studies also suggest that one factor that determines the choice of a particular approach is the compromised components of the lexical/semantic processing *** The majority of studies have demonstrated improvements of naming abilities following language *** the progressive nature of PPA,it is essential to apply language treatment in the early stages of the disease.

The drought-tolerant grass Brachypodium distachyon is an emerging model species for temperate grasses and cereal crops. To explore the usefulness of this species for drought studies, a reproducible in vivo drought assay was developed. Spontaneous soil drying led to a 45% reduction in leaf size, and this was mostly due to a decrease in cell expansion, whereas cell division remained largely unaffected by drought. To investigate the molecular basis of the observed leaf growth reduction, the third Brachypodium leaf was dissected in three zones, namely proliferation, expan- sion, and mature zones, and subjected to transcriptome analysis, based on a whole-genome tiling array. This approach allowed us to highlight that transcriptome profiles of different developmental leaf zones respond differently to drought. Several genes and functional processes involved in drought tolerance were identified. The transcriptome data suggest an increased energy availability in the proliferation zones, along with an up-regulation of sterol synthesis that may influ-ence membrane fluidity. This information may be used to improve the tolerance of temperate cereals to drought, which is undoubtedly one of the major environmental challenges faced by agriculture today and in the near future.

Intestinal epithelial cells in inflammatory bowel diseases

The pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) seems to involve a primary defect in one or more of the elements responsible for the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis and oral tolerance. The most important element is represented by the intestinal barrier, a complex system formed mostly by intestinal epithelial cells (IECs). IECs have an active role in producing mucus and regulating its composition; they provide a physical barrier capable of controlling antigen traff ic through the intestinal mucosa. At the same time, they are able to play the role of non-professional antigen presenting cells, by processing and presenting antigens directly to the cells of the intestinal immune system. On the other hand, immune cells regulate epithelial growth and differentiation, producing a continuous bi-directional cross-talk within the barrier. Several alterations of the barrier function have been identif ied in IBD, starting from mucus features up to its components, from epithelial junctions up to the Toll-like receptors, and altered immune responses. It remains to be understood whether these defects are primary causes of epithelial damage or secondary effects. We review the possible role of the epithelial barrier and particularly describe the role of IECs in the pathogenesis of IBD.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation versus surgery:4-year survival according to life expectancy
