Intracardiac manifestation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a rare condition and an uncommon finding even at autopsy. Pulmonary tumor embolism as a presenting feature of HCC has been published only twice previously. In our case report, a 63-year-old man presented with high fever and six episodes of recurrent pneumonias during the last half year. Echocardiography was performed, a solid mass was found in the right atrium. Transesophageal echocardiography proved a tumor mass in the inferior vena cava (IVC) extending into the right atrium, abdominal ultrasound revealed tumor mass in the IVC and a solid tumor in the liver. Combined liver and heart surgery was attempted in order to remove the tumor mass from both the liver and the right atrium. Acute cor pulmonale occurred during tumor removal from the right atrium and the patient expired. In addition to local factors the possibility of embolization should arise in the background of recurrent pneumonia. Occult carcinoma must be included in possible causes of recurrent pulmonary embolism. Searching for primary malignancy should include HCC as frequent cause of hypercoagulability. In case of HCC, echocardiography is suggested because of the possibility of expansion in IVC or right atrium and tumor-embolization.

The drug carrier function of single protein nanoparticles, i.e., each individual protein molecule covered by a very thin, porous and few nanometer thick polymer layer, has been investigated. This layer around protein molecule is very thin, about 3-5 nm thick and highly porous, thus it does not reduce seriously the enzymatic function of protein molecule. The spatial structure of encapsulated protein molecule, which is essential in its function, can be stabilized by this polymer layer. Bovine serum albumin was used as protein drug molecule and it was encapsulated with acrylamide-bisarylamide random copolymer. The polymerization, starting from the modified sites of the surface of bovine serum albumin molecules was initiated by TEMED （tetramethylethylenediamine）. These single albumin nanoparticles were painted with fluorescein isothiocyanate. This material was then injected into the inferior vena cava of rats. The treated rats were decapitated after 1 to 10 minutes and its brain was investigated by fluorescent microscopy. It was proved that bovine serum albumin molecules as drugs encapsulated in polymer nano-layer with a reduced size （about 10 nm） can pass through the blood brain barrier. The results suggest that this method is capable of transformation of biomacromolecules to access the brain tissue via the blood.

In this review we summarized recent historical records and molecular studies on evolutionary history and phylogeography of Scots pine with focus on the European highly fragmented distribution area of the species. Fossilized pollen, plant micro- and macrofossil records provided evidences on the large-scale species’ range shifts and demographic changes during the Quaternary. Populations of Scots pine were documented both in the glacial (incl. full glaciation) and interglacial periods. Recolonization of Europe after the glaciation originated from the (Sub) Mediterranean areas like the Balkan Peninsula but also from around the Eastern Alps and the surroundings of the Danube plain. Fennoscandia and northern European Baltic regions were most probably colonized from two main directions, from Western Europe and from the Russian Plain. Modern history of Scots pine was hardly affected by anthropogenic activities that started to strengthen in the Bronze and Iron Age. Along with the fossil records, molecular genetic tools were used to infer the origin and putative history including migration, differentiation and demography of the species. In this paper we compiled the major publications (30) of molecular genetic studies of the past 20 years derived from distinctly inherited organelle genomes (mitochondrial, chloroplast, nuclear) revealed by different marker systems (mtDNA-cox1, -nad1, -nad3, -nad7, ISSR, cpSSR, nSSR, B-SAP, SNP). It is important to consider that different phylogeographic patterns can be drawn by the analysis of different DNA marker types. Accordingly the use of more than one marker simultaneously outlines the most sophisticated phylogeographical pattern on the genetic lineages and can reveal high differentiation of the European distribution. Combined marker systems and markers derived from coding sequences have also been used to detect species’ phylogeographic patterns, but these were rarely applied to Scots pine. The globalization has a particular relation to the climate change, and conversely, the climate change also has a particular relation to the globalization. They live and exist together and often they are mentioned together. It is however clear that the globalization can exist problemless without the climate change, while this can also be declared from the climate change. Nature and society have always been in a secret dialogue with each other, forming visible and invisible oppositions, taking over the role of the other and embodying universal values for the other side. Actually, we have an important change in the secret dialog. It is not about the fact, that this change is historical in the history of the nature. Until now, we protected the nature against the society, now we must also protect the society against the nature. The decisive change is the transformation of the idea of the nature protection in a practice of the mutual and double protection of the nature and the society.

The role of vitamin D as an immune modulator has been emphasized in recent years,and low levels of the hormone were observed in several autoimmune diseases including multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus *** D mediates its effect though binding to vitamin D receptor(VDR),and activation of VDR-responsive *** VDR gene polymorphism was found to associate with autoimmune thyroid diseases(AITDs),few studies examined levels of vitamin D in these patients and those that did yielded conflicting *** therefore undertook to evaluate the levels of vitamin D in patients with AITDs compared to patients with non-AITDs and healthy *** vitamin D(25-OH)levels were measured in 50 patients with AITDs,42 patients with non-AITDs and 98 healthy subjects,utilizing the LIAISON chemiluminescence immunoassay(DiaSorin,Saluggia,Italy).VitaminD deficiency was designated at levels lower than 10 ng/*** antibodies,thyroid functions and demographic parameters were evaluated in all *** prevalence of vitamin D deficiency was significantly higher in patients with AITDs compared with healthy individuals(72% versus 30.6%;P<0.001),as well as in patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis compared to patients with non-AITDs(79% versus 52%;P<0.05).Vitamin D deficiency also correlated to the presence of antithyroid antibodies(P=0.01)and abnormal thyroid function tests(P=0.059).Significantly low levels of vitamin D were documented in patients with AITDs that were related to the presence of anti thyroid antibodies and abnormal thyroid function tests,suggesting the involvement of vitamin D in the pathogenesis of AITDs and the advisability of supplementation.

Despite the advancement in burn therapy in the last decades the treatment of burn wounds still remains a challenging task. Infection is still a common complication;while sepsis remains the leading cause of death in severe burns. The research guided integration of new and effective techniques in burn wound management is mandatory. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is an effective and widely used technique in the management of problematic wounds. Previously existing indications include soft tissue traumas and chronic wounds such as diabetic, arterial, venous and pressure ulcers. The characteristics and challenges of these wounds have a lot in common with burns. Since the early 2000’s there are experiences with the use of NPWT for the healing of second degree burn wounds. Our clinical experience shows that it is a minimally invasive and effective way of improving burn wound management. In this article we give a review of the literature showing the mechanisms, unmapped future opportunities, financial issues, and possible adverse effects of NPWT in burn therapy.
