Keratinocytes costimulate naive human T cells via CD2: a potential target to prevent the development of proinflammatory Th1 cells in the skin

The interplay between keratinocytes and immune cells,especially T cells,plays an important role in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory skin *** psoriasis,keratinocytes attract T cells by releasing chemokines,while skin-infiltrating selfreactive T cells secrete proinflammatory cytokines,e.g.,IFN γand IL-17A,that cause epidermal ***,in chronic graftversus-host disease,allogenic IFN γ-producing Th1/Tc1 and IL-17-producing Th17/Tc17 cells are recruited by keratinocyte-derived chemokines and accumulate in the ***,whether keratinocytes act as nonprofessional antigen-presenting cells to directly activate naive human T cells in the epidermis remains ***,we demonstrate that under proinflammatory conditions,primary human keratinocytes indeed activate naive human T *** activation required cell contact and costimulatory signaling via CD58/CD2 and CD54/*** T cells costimulated by keratinocytes selectively differentiated into Th1 and Th17 *** particular,keratinocyte-initiated Th1 differentiation was dependent on costimulation through CD58/*** latter molecule initiated STAT1 signaling and IFN γproduction in T *** of T cells by keratinocytes resulting in Th1 and Th17 differentiation represents a new explanation for the local enrichment of Th1 and Th17 cells in the skin of patients with a chronic inflammatory skin ***,local interference with T cell–keratinocyte interactions may represent a novel strategy for the treatment of Th1 and Th17 cell-driven skin diseases.

采用溶剂热法制备出富炭硬沥青基WO3/TiO2催化剂。通过光电子能谱议(XPS)、红外光谱仪(FTIR)、拉曼光谱仪(Raman)、扫描电镜(SEM)和UV-Vis漫反射光谱仪(DRS)等手段表征催化剂的形貌、结构、光学和物理性质。SEM观察到硬沥青表面完全被WO3/TiO2颗粒覆盖。Raman和XPS分析表明,富炭硬沥青与WO3,TiO2复合良好。DRS结果显示在带隙较低时(2.83 eV),富炭硬沥青基WO3/TiO2催化剂对可见光的吸收性能得到提高。在UV-A辐照下,通过降解橙色Ⅱ染料和药物来探讨所制催化剂的光催化性能。橙色Ⅱ染料降解度随着硬沥青添加比例增加而增加,这归因于吸附和光催化的协同效应,即光吸收的增加和光产生的空穴和电子在W/Ti界面容易转移。而且,为了对比硬沥青原料与所制催化剂的吸附性能,在不同pH值下进行了批量吸附实验,并采用等温线和动力吸附模型探讨了温度和吸附值。本研究提供了富炭硬沥青作为自然碳源应用于碳基光催化材料制备思路。

To the Editor We have read with great enthusiasm the recently published article entitled 'Association of inflammation with atrial fibrillation (AF) in hyperthyroidism' by Ozaydin and coworkers.[1] In that very well-designed study, Ozaydin and coworkers tried to evaluate the relationship between serum levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (HsCRP), as a marker of inflammation and the development of AF in patients with *** concluded that HsCRP, an indicator of inflammation, free T4 and left atrial (LA) diameter are associated with the development AF in patients with hyperthyroidism.

Canopy Temperature Depression as a Potential Selection Criterion for Drought Resistance in Wheat

Field studies were conducted at Bushland, Texas, USA, in 2004 to examine usefulness of canopy temperature depression （CTD）, the difference of air-canopy temperature, in screening wheat （Triticum aestivum L.） genotypes for yield under dryland and irrigated. Forty winter wheat genotypes were grown under irrigation and dryland. CTDs were recorded after heading between 1 330 and 1 530 h on 6 clear days for dryland and 9 days for irrigation. Drought susceptible index （DSI） for each genotype was calculated using mean yield under dryland and irrigated conditions. Genotypes exhibited great differences in CTD under each environment. The dryland CTDs averaged 1.33℃ ranging from -0.67 to 2.57℃, and the average irrigation CTD were 4.59℃ ranging from 3.21 to 5.62℃. A low yield reduction was observed under dryland conditions relative to irrigated conditions for high-CTD genotypes. CTD values were highly negatively correlated with DSI under dryland, and genotypes of CTDs = 1.3℃ in dryland condition were identified as drought resistant. For 21 genotypes classified as drought resistant by DSI, their CTDs were 1.68℃ for dryland and 4.35℃ for irrigation on average; for 19 genotypes classified as drought susceptible by DSI, average CTD was 0.94℃ in dryland and 4.85℃ in irrigation. The high-yield genotypes consistently had high CTD values, and the low-yield ones had low CTD values for all measurements in dryland. After heading, genotypes maintained consistent ranking for CTD. Regression results for CTD and yield suggested that the best time for taking CTD measurement was 3-4 weeks after heading in irrigation but any time before senescence in dryland. Crop water stress index （CWSI） calculated from CTD data was highly correlated with CWSI calculated from yield, which suggesting traditional costly CWSI measurement may be improved by using portable infrared thermometers. AIM： To compare the effects of thiamine pyrophosphate（TPP） and thiamine（TM） in oxidative optic neuropathy in rats induced by ***： The animals were divided into four groups：a control group（CG）,an ethambutol control（ETC） group,TM plus ethambutol group（TMG）,and TPP plus ethambutol group（TPPG）.One hour after intraperitoneal administration of TM 20 mg/kg to the TMG group and TPP 20 mg/kg to TPPG group,30 mg/kg ethambutol was given via gavage to all the groups but the *** procedure was repeated once daily for 90 *** that period,all rats were exposed to high levels of anaesthesia in order to investigate the gene expression of malondialdehyde and glutathione in removed optic nerve tissue and histopathologically to examine these tissues. RESULTS： Malondialdehyde gene expression significantly increased,whereas glutathione gene expression significantly decreased in the ETC group compared to the *** could not prevent the increase of malondialdehyde gene expression and the decrease of glutathione,while TPP significantly could ***,significant vacuolization in the opticnerve,single-cell necrosis in the glial cells,and a decrease in oligodendrocytes were observed in the ETC *** in the optic nerve,a decrease in oligodendrocytes and single-cell necrosis were found in the TMG group,while no pathological finding was observed in the TPPG group except for mild ***： TPP protects the optic nerve against the ethambutol-induced toxicity but TM does *** can be beneficial in prophilaxis of optic neuropathy in ethambutol therapy.

MgO and ZnO Composite Thin Films Using the Spin Coating Method on Microscope Glasses

In this study, a new route to produce pure and composite ZnO-MgO thin films has been presented. In the process the pure ZnO thin films were the starting point, ending up with MgO by doping various percentages (from 0% to 100%) of Mg with the help of sol-gel spin coating technique. The crystal phases in all doping levels have been obtained when the samples annealed at 600℃ for a duration of 6 hours. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra, the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs and UV-Vis absorption spectra have been performed to elucidate the composed film structures.

The Impact of Peer Instruction on Students’ Achievement in Mathematics Analysis

In this research,we investigated the effect of peer instruction method on the first course mathematics education students’academic achievement and the attitudes of students by using peer instruction *** implementation was carried out seven weeks with 60 participants in an introduction to mathematics analysis lesson in Suleyman Demirel University in *** first course groups were randomly assigned to treatment and control *** final results were obtained to measure students’academic achievement and questionnaires used to indicate attitudes towards peer *** were analyzed,using analysis of t-test(p=0.029)with an alpha significance level of *** results of final questions indicated,peer instruction has a significant positive effect on students’achievement in the introduction to mathematics analysis course and the results of questionnaires demonstrated peer instruction(PI)has a positive impact on peers’understanding by making learning interesting and interactive,and it also creates conducive atmosphere in the class.
