Chaotic Aquila Optimization Algorithm for Solving Phase Equilibrium Problems and Parameter Estimation of Semi-empirical Models

This research study aims to enhance the optimization performance of a newly emerged Aquila Optimization algorithm by incorporating chaotic sequences rather than using uniformly generated Gaussian random *** work employs 25 different chaotic maps under the framework of Aquila *** considers the ten best chaotic variants for performance evaluation on multidimensional test functions composed of unimodal and multimodal problems,which have yet to be studied in past literature *** was found that Ikeda chaotic map enhanced Aquila Optimization algorithm yields the best predictions and becomes the leading method in most of the *** test the effectivity of this chaotic variant on real-world optimization problems,it is employed on two constrained engineering design problems,and its effectiveness has been ***,phase equilibrium and semi-empirical parameter estimation problems have been solved by the proposed method,and respective solutions have been compared with those obtained from state-of-art *** is observed that CH01 can successfully cope with the restrictive nonlinearities and nonconvexities of parameter estimation and phase equilibrium problems,showing the capabilities of yielding minimum prediction error values of no more than 0.05 compared to the remaining algorithms utilized in the performance benchmarking process.

Backround: The English literature contains very few reports on disc herniation at upper thoracic levels. This report presents a patient with T1-2 disc herniation who underwent successful surgery. Case Presentation: A 47-year-old female presented that the right T1 root was compressed by foraminal disc herniation at the T1-2 level. Conclusion: The anterior approach is an easy and appropriate method to treat central and foraminal disc herniation of the thoracic spine.

Development, Delivery and Evaluation of a Safety Training Program on Demolition for Blight Reduction

The main objective of the work presented in this paper was to develop a customized safety training program that can be incorporated into the demolition projects undertaken as part of blight reduction efforts in urban centers. A subsidiary objective was to devise and implement a safety program evaluation methodology, and gain insights on the relationships between knowledge acquisition through training and trainee demographics. Salient aspects of blight elimination efforts, as well as the main facets of building demolition practices and requirements, were reviewed. Information on various related safety and health hazards was studied in depth with a focus on demolition operations dealing with blighted properties. A unique safety hazard awareness training program was created for demolition workers, contractors and inspectors based on this research. In addition to devising a curriculum of relevant training topics along with traditional and online delivery systems to be employed, effectiveness evaluation instruments were formulated. Based on the limited data collected from the trainees it was concluded that the program was well-received by them and provided effective learning. It was also found that no statistically significant associations existed between the knowledge gain of the trainees, and either their experience level or union status, after taking this training.

Mechanical properties and impact resistance of concrete composites with hybrid steel fibers

The aim of this study is to develop concrete composites that are resistant to armor-piercing projectiles for defense *** reinforcement configurations have been tested,such as short steel fibers,long steel fibers,and steel mesh *** different concrete mix designs were prepared as“Ultra High Performance(UHPFRC),High Performance(HPFRC)and Conventional(CFRC)Fiber Reinforced Concrete”.The content of hybrid steel fibers was approximately 5%in the UHPFRC and HPFRC mixtures,while the steel fiber content was approximately 2.5%in the CFRC *** addition,a plain state of each mixture was *** properties of concrete were determined in experimental *** addition to the fracture energy and impact strength,two important indicators of ballistic performance of concrete are examined,which are the penetration depth and damage *** results of the study show that the depth of penetration in UHPFRC was around 35%less than that in *** was determined that the mixtures of UHPFRC and HPFRC containing 5%by volume of hybrid steel fibers showed superior performance(smaller crater diameter and the less projectile penetration depth)against armor-piercing projectiles in ballistic tests and could be used in defense structures.

Investor sentiments and stock marketsduring the COVID-19 pandemic

This study examines the relationship between positive and negative investor sentiments and stock market returns and volatility in Group of 20 countries using variousmethods, including panel regression with fixed effects, panel quantile regressions, apanel vector autoregression (PVAR) model, and country-specific regressions. We proxyfor negative and positive investor sentiments using the Google Search Volume Indexfor terms related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and COVID-19 vaccine, respectively. Using weekly data from March 2020 to May 2021, we document significantrelationships between positive and negative investor sentiments and stock marketreturns and volatility. Specifically, an increase in positive investor sentiment leads toan increase in stock returns while negative investor sentiment decreases stock returnsat lower quantiles. The effect of investor sentiment on volatility is consistent acrossthe distribution: negative sentiment increases volatility, whereas positive sentimentreduces volatility. These results are robust as they are corroborated by Granger causalitytests and a PVAR model. The findings may have portfolio implications as they indicatethat proxies for positive and negative investor sentiments seem to be good predictorsof stock returns and volatility during the pandemic.
