The COVID-19 Pandemic: Present or Gone, Where Do Adolescents Stand?

Introdu.tion: The initial global response to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic focu.ed on adu.ts as adolescents mainly had su.clinical infections. Adolescents, however, cou.d transmit the viru. and hence be a risk to the elderly, you.g children and immu.ocompromised. Adolescents are also at risk of long-term complications. This stu.y sou.ht to determine the prevalence of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 among adolescents in Sou.hern Nigeria, and to determine the association between SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity and age, gender, socioeconomic class, school type and nu.ritional statu.. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional stu.y was carried ou. in Edo state of sou.hern Nigeria. We recru.ted 270 in-school adolescents aged 10 - 19 years. A WHO-adapted, pre-tested qu.stionnaire was u.ed to obtain data on participant history and risk factors. The qu.stionnaire was interviewer-administered. Adolescents whose parents gave consent were recru.ted throu.h a mu.ti-stage randomized sampling method. Capillary blood for the assay was collected and analysed u.ing a lateral-flow immu.oassay device. The primary ou.come was serostatu. of the stu.y. The positive predictors of serostatu. were finally determined u.ing a mu.tiple logistics regression model. Statistical significance was set at p Resu.ts: The seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 was 45.9%. IgM antibodies were fou.d in 5.6% of participants. Older adolescents had higher seropositivity rates than you.ger adolescents (2 = 8.101, p = 0.017). There was no association between gender and seropositivity. Adolescents in pu.lic schools were more likely to be seropositive than those in private schools (2 = 25.242, p = 0.001). A higher seroprevalence was noticed among stu.y participants in the lower socioeconomic class (x2 = 6.928, p = 0.031), and those in overcrowded classes. (2 = 79.303, p = 0.001). Coverage and determinants of infant postnatal care in Nigeria:A popu.ation-based cross-sectional stu.y

Importance:In 2019,Nigeria had the largest nu.ber of u.der-5 child deaths globally and many of these deaths occu.red within the first week of *** World Health Organization recommends infant postnatal care(PNC)attendance to su.port newborn su.vival;however,u.ilization of PNC is known to be low in many ***:This stu.y examined coverage and individu.l-level determinants of infant PNC attendance in ***:Nigeria Demographic Health Su.vey(NDHS)2018 data were u.ed to evalu.te infant PNC coverage and *** PNC was defined as receipt of care within 2 days of *** delivered u. to 2 years before the 2018 NDHS were *** examined predictors of infant PNC with modified Poisson regression models to estimate relative risks(RRs).Resu.ts:The national coverage of infant PNC was 37.3%(95%confidence interval[CI]:35.8%–38.7%).Significant heterogeneity in PNC attendance existed at state and regional *** delivery was strongly associated with the u.take of PNC(RR:6.07;95%CI:5.60–6.58).Greater maternal edu.ation,maternal employment,u.ban residence,female head of hou.ehold,and greater wealth were also associated with an increased likelihood of PNC ***:The u.take of infant PNC is low and interventions are u.gently needed to promote equ.ty in access and increase demand for PNC in Nigeria.

Su.tes of granitic and metamorphic rocks form a perfect geological environment in which to investigate the sou.ce of metals related to gold *** the East Province of Cameroon,the sou.ce of metals-related gold(grade~4.6 g/t)that occu.s within metamorphic and granitic rocks remains *** host rocks were su.jected to XRF and ICP-MS whole-rock geochemistry and BSE/EDS mineral analyses to investigate the sou.ce(s)of metals related to gold in the ***,chalcopyrite-pyrite and magnetite-ilmenite are the main su.fi des and oxides of granites,*** low-grade metamorphic rocks are su.fi de-rich consisting of arsenopyrite,chalcopyrite,pyrite,and sphalerite,and oxides inclu.e magnetite,ilmenite,hematite,and ***,Ni,Co,Sb,Sc,and Zn concentrations depleted in high-grade metamorphic rocks and granites compared to low-grade metamorphic *** well,Bi,Cd,Co,Cu.Ni,Sb,V,W,and Zn concentrations decrease with increasing temperatu.es from low-grade rocks to high-grade rocks and *** su.te of depleted elements in high-grade rocks and granites is almost identical to those enriched in gold *** conclu.e that metals(Bi,Cd,Co,Cu.Ni,Sb,and Zn)related to gold mineralization in the East Province of Cameroon likely originated from metal-rich low-grade metamorphic rocks du.ing prograde metamorphic processes prior to partial melting.

Methane cracking is considered a bridge technology between gray and green hydrogen produ.tion *** this work an experimental stu.y of methane cracking in molten tin is *** tests were condu.ted in a qu.rtz reactor(i.d.=1.5 cm,L=20 cm)with capillary injection,varying temperatu.e(950–1070°C),inlet methane flow rate(30–60 mL·min^(-1))and tin height(0–20 cm).The influ.nce of the residence time in the tin and in the headspace on methane conversion and on carbon morphology was *** conversions obtained in tin and in the empty reactor were measu.ed and compared with resu.ts of detailed kinetic simu.ations(CRECK).Fu.thermore,an expression of a global kinetic constant for methane conversion in tin was also *** highest conversion(65%at Q0=30 mL·min^(-1) and t=1070°C)is obtained for homogeneou. gas phase reaction du. to the long residence time(70 s),the presence of tin leads to a sharp decrease of residence time(1 s),obtaining a conversion of 35%at 1070°C,thu. meaning that tin owns a role in the *** characterization(scanning electron microscopy,Raman)reported a change in carbon toward sheet-like stru.tu.es and an increase of the carbon stru.tu.al order in the presence of molten tin media.

Bu.k geochemistry,Sr,Nd,and O-H isotope systematics are reported for the first time on banded iron formation(BIF)-hosted high-grade iron ore at the northwestern segment of Congo Craton(CC).Located in Mbalam iron ore district,Sou.hern Cameroon,Metzimevin iron ore deposit is a hematite-magnetite BIF system,dominated by SiO_(2)+Fe_(2)O_(3)(97.1 to 99.84 wt%),with low concentrations of clastic elements e.g.,Al_(2)O_(3),TiO_(2),and HFSE,depicting a nearly pu.e chemical *** REE+Y signatu.e of the iron deposit displays strong positive Eu.anomaly,strong negative Ce anomaly,and chondritic to su.erchondritic Y/Ho ratios,su.gestive of formation by mixed seawater-high temperatu.e hydrothermal flu.ds in oxidising ***^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr ratios of the BIF are higher than the maximu.^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr evolu.ion cu.ves for all Archean reservoirs(bu.k silicate earth,Archean cru.t and Archean seawater),indicating involvement of continentally-derived components du.ing BIF formation and ***Ɛ_(Nd)(t)(+2.26 to+3.77)and Nd model age indicate that chemical constitu.nts for the BIF were derived from u.differentiated cru.tal sou.ce,between 3.002 and 2.88 *** variable and diverse O and H isotope data(−1.9‰to 17.3‰and−57‰to 136‰respectively)indicate that the Metzimevin iron ore formed initially from magmatic plu.es and later enriched by magmatic-metamorphic-modified meteoric *** balance calcu.ations indicate mineralisation by combined leaching and precipitation,with an average iron enrichment factor of>2.67 and SiO_(2)depletion factor of>*** is associated with an overall volu.e redu.tion of 28.27%,reflecting net leaching and volu.e collapse of the BIF protholith.
