The study investigated the genetic variation of Parachanna obscura from five rivers(Anambra,Ibbi,Imo,Katsina-Ala and Ogun)in Nigeria using the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase 1 *** was extracted from 19,22,16,18 and 21 fin clips per river population,respectively and subjected to polymerase chain reaction.A total of 96 sequences,each with 671 bp were obtained with 38(5.6%)polymorphic,27(3.8%)parsimoniously informative and 659(98.2%)conserved *** nucleotide composition was C=28.07%,T=29.43%,A=22.18%,G=20.32%.A total of 40 haplotypes with 38 unique sequences as well as 24 substitutions with 22 transversions and two transitions were *** diversity among populations ranged from 0.00184 to 0.00888 representing Ibbi and Imo,respectively while haplotype diversity ranged from 0.77056 to 0.95000 also,from Ibbi and Imo,*** of molecular variance showed that the intra-population variation accounted for 50.05%.Topology from phylogenetic analyses revealed that *** from Imo River was distinctly different from the rest.

Mortality is normal and natural in aquaculture experiments. However, it becomes a problem when measuring feed intake as a component of nutrient utilization parameters such as： feed conversion ratio, feed conversion efficiency, apparent net protein utilization, protein efficiency ratio and protein productive value. In order to accurately evaluate feed intake with due consideration of mortality encountered, a formulae was developed using empirical data obtained from an experiement that had mortality. The formulae Fwas： total feed consumed by numbers of survived fishes=DL∑i=1n（Fi/Ni）N. Where, D=Numbers of days fishes were fed within each period ibefore it was adjusted（e.g fortnight）, it was constant throught period of experiment; F=Uantity of feed fed per day for a fortnight before the quantity was adjusted, it changed every fortnight; L=Numbers of living fishes at the end of experimental period; N=Numbers of fishes at each weighing period, it might change every fortnight or might be constant if no mortality occurred; while n=Numbers of times fishes were weighed and quantity of feed was adjusted but this did not include the final weighing at the termination of experiment. However, if the fishes were weighed weekly, then D=6.

Cancers derived from the gastrointestinal(GI)tract are often treated with radical surgery to achieve a ***,recent advances in the management of GI cancers involve the use of a combination of neoadjuvant radiation and chemotherapy followed by surgical intervention to achieve improved local control and ***,a small proportion of patients with highly sensitive tumors achieved a pathological complete response(pCR)(no residual tumor cells in the resected specimen)to neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy(nCRT).The desire for organ preservation and avoidance of surgical morbidity brings the idea of a nonoperative management(NOM)*** of the different nature of tumor biology,GI cancers present diverse responses to nCRT,ranging from high sensitivity(anal cancer)to low sensitivity(gastric/esophageal cancer).There is an increasing attention to NOM of localized GI cancers;however,without the use of biomarkers/imaging parameters to select such patients,NOM will remain a ***,this review intends to summarize some of the recent updates from the aspect of current nCRT regimens,criteria for patient selection and active surveillance *** also hope to review significant sequelae of radical surgery and the complications of nCRT to clarify the directions for optimization of nCRT and NOM for oncologic outcomes and quality of life.

Despite substantial efforts at early diagnosis, accurate staging and advanced treatments, esophageal cancer(EC) continues to be an ominous disease worldwide. Risk factors for esophageal carcinomas include obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hard-alcohol use and tobacco smoking. Five-year survival rates have improved from 5% to 20% since the 1970 s, the result of advances in diagnostic staging and treatment. As the most sensitive test for locoregional staging of EC, endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) influences the development of an optimal oncologic treatment plan for a significant minority of patients with early cancers, which appropriately balances the risks and benefits of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. EUS is costly, and may not be available at all centers. Thus, the yield of EUS needs to be thoughtfully considered for each patient. Localized intramucosal cancers occasionally require endoscopic resection(ER) for histologic staging or treatment; EUS evaluation may detect suspicious lymph nodes prior to exposing the patient to the risks of ER. Although positron emission tomography(PET) has been increasingly utilized in staging EC, it may be unnecessary for clinical staging of early, localized EC and carries the risk of false-positive metastasis(over staging). In EC patients with evidence of advanced disease, EUS or PET may be used to define the radiotherapy field. Multimodality staging with EUS, crosssectional imaging and histopathologic analysis of ER, remains the standard-of-care in the evaluation of early esophageal cancers. Herein, published data regarding use of EUS for intramucosal, local, regional and metastatic esophageal cancers are reviewed. An algorithm to illustrate the current use of EUS at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is presented.

Objective:The objective of this study was to identify the ethno-medicinal values of some selected plant species in Federal College of Wildlife Management,New Bussa,Niger state,***:Three methods of data collection were employed:(1) reconnansance survey of the College Estate was carried out to identify some selected medicinal plants found within the area:(2) field observations alongside personal recognition of some of these plant species were carried out and(3) interview was also carried out in three villages around the College Estate to determine the plants being utilized by the *** villages were Kere,Labararu and Poppoi. The various uses of the identified plants and their parts used for the said purposes were *** hundred people were interviewed altogether in these *** information gathered on the medicinal uses of plants includes the type of plants,the part used to cure sickness,preparation of concoction,and the type of sickness *** data gathered were presented and analyzed using ***:The results revealed that the identified plant species were being used in curing various diseases such as dysentery,fever, stomach pains,cough,malaria,yellow fever,diarrhea,gonorrhea,pile,body pains and other ***: The study concluded that since the vast numbers of species in the study area possess medicinal values, there is need to conserve and protect the vegetation of the area from unsustainable exploitations which are the common features of vegetation in the surrounding land uses.

Esophageal cancer(EC)generally consists of squamous cell carcinoma(which arise from squamous epithelium)and adenocarcinoma(which arise from columnar epithelium).Due to the increased recognition of risk factors associated with EC and the development of screening programs,there has been an increase in the diagnosis of early *** EC is amenable to curative therapy by endoscopy,which can be performed by either endoscopic resection or endoscopic *** resection consists of either endoscopic mucosal resection(preferred in cases of adenocarcinoma)or endoscopic submucosal dissection(preferred in cases of squamous cell carcinoma).Endoscopic ablation can be performed by either radiofrequency ablation,cryotherapy,argon plasma coagulation or photodynamic therapy,amongst *** can also assist in the management of complications post-esophageal surgery,such as anastomotic leaks and ***,there is a growing role for endoscopy to manage end-of-life palliative symptoms,especially *** growing use of esophageal stents,debulking therapy and dilation can assist in improving a patient’s quality of *** this review,we examine the multiple roles of endoscopy in the management of patients with EC.

Protective effect of juice extract of mesocarp rind of Citrullus lanatus in carbon tetrachloride-induced oxidative stress in rats

Objective:To investigate the protective roles of juice extract of mesocarp rind of C. lanatus in carbon tetrachloride-induced oxidative stress in rats. Methods: Thirty albino rats were divided into six groups of 5 animals each, namely Groups A–F. The oxidant (CCl4) was used to induce oxidative stress in rats. It was administered as a single subcutaneous injection (2.0 mL/kg body weight) diluted 1:1 in paraffin oil on the 21st day. Animals in Group A (control) received 1 mL of distilled water;Group B received 1 mL of distilled water + CCl4;Group C received 100 mg/kg body weight ascorbic acid + CCl4;while Groups D, E and F were administered with 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight ofC. lanatus extract + CCl4 respectively. The treatments were given once a day and lasted for 21 days. The levels of antioxidant enzymes: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione-s-transferase (GST), reduced glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the liver and serum were evaluated. Results:The assessment of antioxidant parameters revealed a significant (P< 0.05) hepatic oxidative damage in CCl4 treated albino rats, and this was considerably reversed to almost normal level in rats co-administered with juice extract of mesocarp rind ofC. lanatus at the dose level of 200 mg/kg body weight/day for 21 consecutive days. Conclusions:It can be concluded from this present study that the mesocarp rind ofC. lanatus is rich in antioxidants and thus suggesting the possibility of utilizing it as nutraceutical or functional foods to prevent or manage some critical complications in living cells.

AIM： To evaluate the dosimetry, efficacy and toxicity of intensity-modulated radiation therapy （IMRT） and concurrent chemotherapy for patients with locally advanced cervical and upper thoracic esophageal cancer. METHODS： A retrospective study was performed on 7 patients who were definitively treated with IMRT and concurrent chemotherapy. Patients who did not receive IMRT radiation and concurrent chemotherapy were not included in this analysis. IMRT plans were evaluated to assess the tumor coverage and normal tissue avoidance. Treatment response was evaluated and toxicities were assessed. RESULTS： Five- to nine-beam IMRT were used to deliver a total dose of 59.4-66 Gy （median： 64.8 Gy） to the primary tumor with 6-MV photons. The minimum dose received by the planning tumor volume （PTV） of the gross tumor volume boost was 91.2%-98.2% of the prescription dose （standard deviation [SD]： 3.7%-5.7%）. The minimum dose received by the PTV Of the clinical tumor volume was 93.8%-104.8% （SD： 4.3%-11.1%） of the prescribed dose. With a median follow-up of 15 rno （range： 3-21 too）, all 6 evaluable patients achieved complete response. Of them, 2 developed local recurrences and 2 had distant metastases, 3 survived with no evidence of disease. After treatment, 2 patients developed esophageal stricture requiring frequent dilation and 1 patient developed tracheal-esophageal fistula. CONCLUSION： Concurrent IMRT and chemotherapy resulted in an excellent early response in patients with locally advanced cervical and upper thoracic esophageal cancer. However, local and distant recurrence and toxicity remain to be a problem. Innovative approaches are needed to improve the outcome.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF)and tumor markers to provide evidence for early screening of precancerous *** our hospital from July 2017 to May 2019,40 patients with IPF treatment were selected as the IPF group,and 40 patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis with lung cancer(IPF-LC)were selected as the IPF-LC *** the same period,40 healthy physical examinees were used as control *** types of patients in the IPF-LC group were divided into lung adenocarcinoma group,small cell lung cancer group and l squamous carcinoma *** expression levels of tumor markers were detected in the three groups,the positive rates of tumor markers in IPF group,IPF-LC group and their subgroups were *** results showed that the levels of neuron specific enolase(NSE),antigen CYFRA211,carcinogenic antigen(CEA)and cancer antigen 125(CA125)in IPF and IPF-LC groups were significantly higher than those in control group(P0.05)The NSE positive rate of IPF group was significantly lower than that of IPF-LC group(P<0.05),the positive rates of other tumor markers were significantly lower than those of each subgroup of IPF-LC group(P<0.05).Therefore,tumor markers in IPF patients showed different degrees of increase,which is worthy of clinical *** them,NSE can be used as an early screening indicator for IPF precancerous lesions.
