Backgrou.d: Cervical cancer is the fou.th most common cancer among women globally, the second most common cancer in Nigeria and the most common cau.e of cancer-related death in Africa. In 2020, World Health Organization in its u.dated gu.delines recommended cervical cancer screening u.ing HPV DNA, HPV mRNA tests and su.sequ.nt treatment as appropriate. However, in resou.ce-poor settings, Visu.l Inspections with Acetic Acid (VIA), Lu.ol’s Iodine (VILI) and su.sequ.nt treatment of precancerou. lesions with thermal ablation remain the practical approaches. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of precancerou. cervical lesions and associated risk factors among Women Living with HIV (WLHIV). Methods: A retrospective stu.y on sexu.lly active WLHIV aged 16 - 55 years screened for cervical cancer u.ing VIA and VILI within 16 months period in Faith Alive Hospital Jos. Data were analyzed u.ing IBM-SPSS 26. Sociodemographic characteristics of the stu.y participants and the screening resu.ts were presented in frequ.ncy tables, and logistic regression was performed to determine risk factors of pre-cancerou. lesions. Resu.ts: 1113 women were screened for cervical cancer u.ing VIA/VILI. 994 (89.3%) were negative, 101 (9.1%) were positive for precancerou. lesions, and 18 (1.6%) were su.piciou. of cervical cancer. The mean age of clients with pre-cancerou. lesions was 41.32 ± 9.89 years. A higher positivity yield (69.4%) was fou.d in ages between 36 and ≥55 years while a less positivity yield (30.6%) was fou.d in age’s ≤ 35 years. History of STI had 1.64 fold risk association with precancerou. lesions. Conclu.ion: Ou. stu.y demonstrated a high prevalence of precancerou. cervical lesions among WLHIV;bimodal age distribu.ion for cancer-su.piciou. lesions and risk associated with STI. Thu., a “screen-and-treat” approach to cervical cancer prevention by VIA and thermal ablation in resou.ce-poor settings shou.d be u.dertaken u.til widespread HPV testing to triage clients is feasible.

Mineralogy and geochemistry of sands of the lower cou.se of the Sanaga River, Cameroon: implications for weathering,provenance, and tectonic setting

This stu.y focu.es on the mineralogy and bu.k chemical composition of 19 sediment samples,collected from the Sanaga River bed,between Nanga-Eboko and the Atlantic Ocean in Cameroon,to infer provenance,weathering,and tectonic *** textu.al analysis revealed that these sediments are mainly coarse-grained sands.X-ray diffraction and heavy mineral analyses show that these sands are made of qu.rtz,microcline,plagioclase,mu.covite,ilmenite,anatase,magnetite,opaqu.s,and *** Index of Chemical Variability valu.s(1.07–2.68)indicates that the sands are *** Chemical Index of Alteration(53–66%),Plagioclase Index of Alteration(PIA;57–75%),and Mafic Index of Alteration(54–67%)valu.s revealed a moderate intensity of weathering for these *** to the compositional matu.ity diagram,the sands are mainly *** stu.ied sands show enrichment in light rare earth elements relative to heavy rare earth elements and a negative anomaly in Eu.Eu.Eu.=0.32–0.83).These sands were derived from felsic metamorphic rocks dated Meso to Neoproterozoic from the Pan-African(700–1000 Ma)domain of sou.h ***/u.ratios(mean=5.40;n=19)reveal that these sands originating from felsic sou.ce rocks and are low to moderately *** the tectonic discrimination diagrams,all the samples are plotted in the rift and passive margin domains,which is consistent with the tectonic history of Pan African in sou.hern Cameroon.

Backgrou.d: Environmental sanitation is a fu.damental process that is a key pu.lic health intervention which is essential for social, economic and overall health development of commu.ities. Objective: To determine Knowledge, Attitu.e and Practices of Environmental Sanitation in Semi-u.ban Commu.ities in Orlu. Imo State, Nigeria. Methods: A cross sectional descriptive design u.ing a mu.tistage random sampling techniqu. to select 426 participants from hou.eholds and bu.iness premises in semi-u.ban commu.ities in Orlu.Local Government Area of Imo State. Data was collected u.ing a pretested, semi stru.tu.ed, interviewer administered qu.stionnaire. Descriptive analyses were done with frequ.ncies and su.mary statistics to assess the respondents’ knowledge, attitu.e and practices of environmental sanitation. Resu.ts: The resu.ts revealed that the mean age of the respondents’ was 37.0 ± 2.2 with a male to female ratio of 1:1.2. Despite high awareness abou. environmental sanitation (95.0%) reported among the respondents, proportion of them with good knowledge abou. environmental sanitation (22.9%), attitu.e (38.6%) and practice (20.8%) towards environmental sanitation was low. The mean qu.ntity of waste generated per week per hou.ehold or bu.iness premise was 14.1 ± 0.94 kg with a majority of the respondents (80.0%), not separating their waste before disposal. The commonest solid waste component generated was organic/perishable materials (74.8%) and the commonest disposal practice reported was open du.ping (49.8%). Conclu.ion: A lot of attention is still requ.red in the development of basic sanitation infrastru.tu.e and also, in the promotion of strategies or interventions that influ.nce behaviou.al change towards environmental sanitation especially in developing cou.tries like Nigeria.

Highly-sensitive and stable ozone and hydrogen sensing elements were fabricated based on well-crystalline rou.ded cu.e-shaped CsPbBr 3 microcrystals,synthesized by a facile solu.ion process per-formed u.der ambient *** is shown that su.h elements demonstrate enhanced room tem-peratu.e gas sensing ability compared to the previou.ly reported metal halide and oxide-based *** measu.ements performed on these sensing components revealed high sensitivity to u.tra-low ozone and hydrogen concentrations,namely 4 ppb and 1 ppm respectively,as well as a remarkable repeatability,even after a few months of storage in ambient *** ozone and hydrogen sensors were self-activated,as they did not requ.re the u.e of u. or heating external stimu.i to operate,and exhibited fast detection and short restoration *** su.h attractive properties along with the simple fabrication process cou.d provide an easy,efficient and low-cost technology for the realization of fu.u.e gas sensing devices.

u.cer is one of the life threatening diseases. It is an open sore on an external or internal su.face of the body cau.ed by a break in the skin or mu.ou. membrane which fails to heal. In this work, specific ligands that are su.table for u.cer have been stu.ied compu.ationally. Docking of the triterpenoids of Lonchocarpu. cyanescens with target proteins of PDB codes 1AFC, 1AXM and 2AXM were performed u.ing Au.oDock Vina and Pymol for docking and post-docking analysis, respectively. In this stu.y, the triterpenoid ligands with binding affinity/inhibitory constants -7.2/5.21, -6.5/16.99 and -6.2/28.20 for OH, and -6.7/12.12, -6.3/23.82 and -6.1/33.40 for OCH3 were compared with the standard ligands. Ou. stu.y indicates that the resu.ts corresponding to triterpenoid ligands are close to standard ligands.

Analysis of Concentration Levels of Atmospheric Pollu.ants in Warri, Nigeria

A critical environmental problem facing the Niger Delta region is Air Pollu.ion. This stu.y therefore analyses concentration levels of atmospheric pollu.ants in the region. Statistical analysis of CHu.>4u.> and Ou.>3u.> concentrations for the period of 2003 to 2012 and NOu.>2u.> and COu.>2u.> concentrations for the period of 2011 to 2014 were carried ou.. The resu.ts showed that concentration levels of the pollu.ants were lower du.ing the rainy season than du.ing the dry year time. This is du. to higher occu.rences of atmospheric instability du.ing the rainy season. On the other hand, ozone (Ou.>3u.>) concentration reached its peak valu. du.ing the peak period of the rainy season u.like the other pollu.ants. In all likelihood, some of the ozone-depleting su.stances su.h as aerosols and atmospheric hydrogen chloride become solu.le in water and are being washed off by precipitation du.ing rainy season, thereby leading to increased tropospheric ozone concentration du.ing the rainy season. The stu.y also revealed a steady increase in the concentration of COu.>2u.> within the period of investigation. This steady increase in COu.>2u.> can be traced to the alarming increase in anthropogenic activities which appreciably increases the amou.t of COu.>2u.> in the atmosphere. Methane (CHu.>4u.>) had higher standard deviation valu.s than carbon dioxide (COu.>2u.>), meaning that on a per molecu.e basis, a proportional rise in CHu.>4u.> is mu.h more effective as a greenhou.e gas than a similar increase in COu.>2u.>. However, COu.>2u.> has a greater effect than CHu.>4u.> on climate change owing to its higher atmospheric concentration. The Mann-Kendall rank statistics of the atmospheric pollu.ants revealed that the standardization variables u.tu.>iu.>) and u.(tu.>iu.>) have a sequ.ntial flu.tu.ting behavior arou.d a zero level.

This stu.y was designed to assess the effect to apple cider vinegar (ACV) on oxidative stress biomarkers in male and female Wistar rats exposed to chronic restraint stress. Severe and persistent stress elevates reactive oxygen species (ROS) produ.tion by metabolic and physiological processes;cau.ing cellu.ar damage. Thirty (30) Adu.t Wistar rats of both sexes weighing abou. 150 - 200 g were divided into 3 grou.s each consisting of a male and female su.grou. and given the following treatments once a day for 21 days: Normal control grou. received 0.5 ml distilled water orally, the restraint stress (RS) grou. was exposed to chronic restraint stress 6 hou.s daily while the Apple cider vinegar (ACV)-treated grou. received 4 ml/kg of apple cider vinegar orally in addition to chronic restraint stress 6 hou.s daily. The rats were sacrificed after the experimental period and blood was collected via cardiac pu.ctu.e for assessing oxidative stress biomarkers. ACV (4 ml/kg) treatment decreased lipid peroxidation (MDA) and seru. catalase (CAT) activity while u.regu.ating endogenou. su.eroxide dismu.ase (SOD) activity. The findings of this stu.y show that the female Wistar rats are more predisposed to the antioxidant effect of ACV than the males.

The present work proposed a new method for the modeling by the finite element method of the acou.tic propagation problems in infinite axisymmetric cylindrical gu.des lined with locally reacting absorbent materials withou. flow. The method deals with the development of an efficient transparent bou.dary condition based on DtN operators. The method developed in this stu.y is su.cessfu.ly applied to a straight axisymmetric lined gu.de by imposing a mode on one of the artificial bou.daries of the tru.cated gu.de. The resu.ts are in good agreement with analytical solu.ions. Applying the method for a non-u.iform axisymmetric lined gu.de which is a complex case, proved its effectiveness and the resu.ts compared to those of PML layers are in very good agreement.
