Controlling toxic nitrogenous substances in biofloc technology(BFT)systems is critical for the success of this novel *** effectively control nitrogen accumulation in BFT systems,it is important to first understand the dynamics and the removal pathways of this element and its related compounds from aquaculture *** review focuses on synthesizing the information of nitrogen dynamics in BFT systems to provide researchers and practitioners with a guide to the fate of nitrogen and its control *** paper discusses the different types of nitrogenous compounds in BFT water,the transformation processes of ammonia to nitrites and nitrates,the relationship between the two forms of ammonia(NH3 and NH4+)in water and the equilibrium between *** paper also discusses nitrification as a major nitrogen removal pathway and the factors that influence the nitrification ***,the control of nitrogen in BFT systems by manipulating the carbon to nitrogen ratio(C/N)using external carbohydrates is described in this *** paper suggests that further studies should focus on investigating the various factors that influence nitrogen dynamics in BFT systems and the means of controlling contaminants other than nitrogen.

Nursing Care in Patient with Advanced Cancer: The Experience of the Adult oncology Unit of Lomé

Background: Cancer patients suffer physical, psychological, spiritual, and social pains, especially in the advanced stage. Nurses spend more time with patients than any other healthcare team member. This study aimed to assess nurses’ behavior and care experiences in patients with advanced cancer and explore patients’ perceptions of nursing care. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with eight nurses and thirty patients with advanced cancer hospitalized in the oncology unit at Sylvanus olympio Teaching Hospital of Lomé from July to August 2020. Results: The mean age of nurses was 34.3 years ranging from 23 to 48 years. There were five men (62.5%) and three women (37.5%). The mean duration of working in oncology nursing of all was less than two years. only one nurse has training in palliative care. Stress (100%), sadness (100%), and fear (50%) were the most frequently expressed feeling of nurses. The frequently expressed difficulties were the lack of training in palliative care (87.5%), insufficiency of nursing staff (75%), and helplessness in front of the patient’s distress (75%). Among the thirty patients, were 22 women (72.7%) and 8 men (27.3%). The needs expressed by the patients were psychological support (n = 11;36.7%), pain relief (n = 10;33.3%), and moral support (n = 9;30%). Most of the patients (73.3%) affirmed that nurses did not inform them well about their disease. Three (10%) were very satisfied with the care provided, 23 patients (76.7%) were satisfied and 4 (13.3%) were unsatisfied. Conclusion: This study revealed that nursing care in Togolese patients with cancer faces many difficulties and there is a need for providing specialized oncology nursing.

Fracture-Dislocations of Lisfranc Joint in Lomé(Togo)

Introduction: The purpose of this prospective study was to describe the clinic pathological varieties of fracture-dislocations of Lisfranc joint and outcome of treatment. Patients and Methods: This study was conducted on 21 cases of fracture-dislocations of the Lisfranc joint treated in our orthopedics trauma unit from 2010 to 2013. We selected middle foot pure dislocations or associated with Lisfranc joint bone fractures. Classification of Myerson was used to characterize the lesions. The results assessment criteria were clinical and radiological for foot and Massari score. Results: Fourteen (14) patients were male. The average age was 34.7 years. Five (5) clinic pathological forms were met by relying on the classification of Myerson;4 cases of type A;5 cases of type B1;B2, 6 cases;4 cases of type C1 and 2 cases of type C2. There were eight cases of pure dislocation and 13 dislocations were associated with fractures (metatarsal in 11 patients, cuneiform in 5 patients, cuboid bone in 2 patients and enucleation fracture of the medial cuneiform in 2 patients). It was noted 10 cases of skin openings. Treatment consisted on open reduction in all patients and stabilization by pin complemented by a foot plaster for 6 weeks. Four (4) immediately arthrodeses were made. All patients were followed up 7 month to 4 years (mean, 30 month). According to the criteria of Massiri, treatment outcomes were excellent in 19% of cases, good in 28%, fair in 30% and poor in 23%. Conclusion: In our context, these lesions are often open and associated with fractures of Lisfranc joint skeleton and treated after a period more or less long and sometimes, we face lesions totally old. Immediately arthrodesis can be a lasting solution and should not be overlooked.
