Dredged marine soils(DMS)have poor engineering properties,which limit their usage in construction *** research examines the application of reactive magnesia(rMgO)containing supplementary cementitious materials(SCMs)to stabilize DMS under ambient and carbon dioxide(CO_(2))curing *** proprietary experimental tests were conducted to investigate the stabilized ***,the carbonation-induced mineralogical,thermal,and microstructural properties change of the samples were *** findings show that the compressive strength of the stabilized DMS fulfilled the 7-d requirement(0.7-2.1 MPa)for pavement and building *** rMgO with SCMs such as biochar or ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS)altered the engineering properties and particle packing of the stabilized soils,thus influencing their *** increased the porosity of the samples,facilitating higher CO_(2) uptake and improved ductility,while GGBS decreased porosity and increased the dry density of the samples,resulting in higher *** addition of SCMs also enhanced the water retention capacity and modified the pH of the *** analysis revealed that the hydrated magnesium carbonates precipitated in the carbonated samples provided better cementation effects than brucite formed during rMgO ***,incorporating SCMs reduced the overall global warming potential and energy demand of the rMgO-based *** biochar mixes demonstrated lower toxicity and energy ***,the rMgO and biochar blend can serve as an environmentally friendly additive for soft soil stabilization and permanent fixation of significant amounts of CO_(2) in soils through mineral carbonation,potentially reducing environmental pollution while meeting urbanization needs.

The objective of this work was to evaluate four parental lines of cucumber which included:‘Zeina’(Zna),‘Beit Alpha’(BA),‘Straight 8’(Strght 8)and‘Calypso’(Capso)and six F1s generated by diallel cross,using randomized complete block design with three replications to study heterosis and combining ability for yield and yield component *** heterosis showed that cross‘ZnaCapso’had the highest Better Parent(BP)heterosis in total fruit yield/ha while‘BACapso’had the highest Mid Parent(MP)heterosis in the same *** general(GCA)and specific(SCA)combining ability variances were obtained in all the traits implying that both the additive and non-additive gene effects operated in the genetic expression of the *** magnitude of GCA and SCA variances indicated preponderance of additive gene action for all the traits.‘Beit Alpha’and‘Straight 8’are best general combiners while‘BACapso’and‘CapsoStrght 8’were the best specific combiners for total fruit yield.

Assessment of variability and understanding of traits relationship in eggplant species are vital pre-requisite for formulating an effective breeding *** studied 23 genotypes of eggplants in a coarse-textured Ultisol using a randomized complete block design experiment with three *** were collected on number of branches,number of leaves,number of nodes and internodes,stem diameter,plant height,floral and yield *** revealed significant(p=0.05)variation in the flowering and fruiting pattern of the genotypes.‘Yalo x K3BC2P10 gave the highest individual fruit weight of 80.8 *** fruit weight contributed the highest direct positive effect on the fruit *** acted majorly through plant height,number of branches,number of leaves and number of days to first fruit set as revealed in the path coefficient *** fruit weight,number of fruits per plant,plant height,number of days to 50%flowering,number of branches,numbers of days to first flowering and 50%fruit set had positive direct effect on *** traits should be considered in developing high yielding eggplant breeding programme.

本研究的重点是1986年至2016年期间贸易自由化政策的采用对尼日利亚经济的影响。贸易自由化处理的是打破壁垒,将世界市场融入全球经济。尽管全球化对整个世界经济产生了积极影响,但尼日利亚经济无法超越其目前的状态,这是一个非常严肃的研究案例。这项研究利用了国家和国际数据库的二次数据。采用普通最小二乘法对多元线性回归模型中的数据进行分析。为了评估贸易改革政策与3个经济部门对经济的影响,第一个模型是以GDP作为经济增长的代表变量,以农业、工业、服务部门增值和1986年SAP贸易改革的虚拟变量作为解释变量。为了进一步研究支持这3个经济部门的几个关键宏观经济指标对增长的影响,第二个模型也以GDP为因变量,而FDI、贸易开放性、资本形成、出口、进口、服务业增加值百分比GDP和1986年SAP贸易改革的虚拟变量作为解释变量。模型1的OLS分析结果表明,尽管农业和工业的表现低于预期,但3个经济部门对经济增长都有积极和显著的影响。模型2的结果表明,FDI、贸易开放、资本形成和SAP贸易改革与经济增长呈负相关,而出口、进口和服务业增值与经济产出呈正相关,只有FDI不显著。这些发现的含义是,贸易自由化并未显著影响尼日利亚经济的增长。此外,还建议放松管制,促进鼓励本地生产、促进出口和进一步开放尼日利亚经济对外贸易的政策。

Structural Modification of Sand Cast Eutectic Al-Si Alloys with Sulfur/Sodium and Its Effect on Mechanical Properties

In the present study, the structural modification of sand cast Al-12wt%Si alloy with sulfur/sodium and its effect on mechanical properties were investigated. Different addition levels of sulfur and sodium were used to modify and produce castings of the same shape and size from the alloy. The results indicated that the addition of sodium or sulfur to eutectic Al-Si alloy can modify the Al-Si eutectic morphology from needle-like eutectic silicon structure to fine-scale eutectic silicon structure with significant improvement in mechanical properties of the alloy. The optimum levels of modification by sodium flux (60% NaF and 40% NaCl) and sulfur were found to be 0.6% - 1.0% and 0.02% - 0.05% of the weight of the alloy respectively. The alloy modified with 0.6% Na flux had the best mechanical properties closely followed by the one modified with 0.02% sulfur. Over modification of the alloy with sodium produced over modification band which consisted of aluminum dendrites and coarse silicon particles in the microstructure of the alloy. Increase in concentration of sulfur decreased the degree of fineness of the eutectic silicon structure with significant decrease in mechanical properties of the alloy and this is suggested to be as a result of the presence of a brittle sulfur compound at the grain interfaces of the alloy.

Background Knowledge, attitude, perception, and practice of Covid-19 prevention affect the effectiveness of healthcare workers in the pandemic response. This study assessed gaps in awareness, knowledge, attitude, perception, and practice of Covid-19 prevention among healthcare workers in Rivers State, Nigeria. Methods This was a descriptive cross-sectional survey carried out six weeks into Rivers State response that commenced on February 20, 2020, in the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs). State Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers used multistage sampling to recruit 555 healthcare workers for the survey. A self-designed structured interviewer-administered questionnaire built into the Open Data Kit application for android phones was used for data collection. Descriptive data analysis was done, and outputs presented as frequency and percentages. Results There was a total of 372 (67.0%) female respondents. Majority of study participants had tertiary education 453 (81.6%). The mean age of study participants was 40.6 years (Standard Deviation = 7.8 years). Furthermore, 285 (51.4%) were Community Health Workers, and had over ten years practicing experience 393 (70.8%). Most healthcare workers 554 (99.8%) had heard about Covid-19, through radio 539 (97.1%), and television 445 (80.2%) yet 213 (38.4%) respondents did not know that it is caused by a virus. Most respondents 415 (74.8%) had good knowledge about Covid-19. However, only 148 (26.7%) would refer suspected cases to a facility and only 365 (65.8%) respondents demonstrated the correct hand washing technique. Conclusion There are some gaps in health worker knowledge, attitude, perception, and practice of Covid-19 prevention. Interventions to bridge these gaps are needed for effective containment of this pandemic.
