Prospects of Robot Laser Cutting in the Era of Industry 4.0

Laser cutting is a non-contact thermal cutting process and an integral part of manufacturing. In metal processing, laser cutting is at the forefront of the manufacturing chain followed by joining and manufacturing processes like welding. The future of metal manufacturing processes like laser cutting shall rely on intelligent systems such as automation and robotics based on the advancement of technology and digital transformation spearheaded by Industry 4.0. Moreover, the digital transition where robots and automated systems are key drivers creates a broader platform to utilize energy-efficiency materials. Such energy-efficient materials include high-strength steels (HSS) for structural applications (e.g. bio-energy structures, wind turbines, ice-going vessels) onshore, offshore and in the Arctic region. The aim of this paper is to elucidate the prospects of robot laser cutting systems in the framework of integrated metal manufacturing in future factories. Previous studies on laser cutting technologies are examined based on scientific and industrial perspectives. Robot laser cutting system is compared with the well-known flat-bed laser cutting CNC machine in several aspects including flexibility in manufacturing, ease for digitalization, off-line capabilities and investment analysis. The findings shall help to determine the competitiveness of robot laser cutting systems with flat-bed laser cutting CNC machines, especially when considering metal manufacturing in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The outcome of this study is to stir up experimental and computational research on robot laser cutting systems of metals, and help companies in their decision-making process when deciding which laser cutting system will best suit their manufacturing operations in the future.

Waters off the coasts of West Africa are very rich with many different types of fish and marine *** species like sardines,tuna,mackerel,tilapia and shrimps are important to many local communities and economies in West ***,the current overfishing of these fish affects the sustainability of fishery *** Ghana ratifying to a number of international marine laws to ensure a sustainable marine fishing,there seem to be some challenges that are associated with marine fishing in *** paper further examines the strategies that have been employed by the fishing community and the fisheries ministry in Ghana as a response to restrictive measures for the challenges identified and discussed in *** paper is fundamentally an extensive review of marine fisheries *** general terms,it was found that,Ghana has ratified to a number of international marine laws including the UNCLOS.

Perceptions of traditional,complementary and alternative medicine among conventional healthcare practitioners in Accra,Ghana:Implications for integrative healthcare

OBJECTIVE： Integrative medicine refers to ongoing efforts to combine the best of conventional and evidence-based complementary therapies. While this effort for collaboration is increasing, traditional complementary and alternative medicine （TM-CAM） remains poorly integrated into the current healthcare system of Ghana. At present, it is not clear if practitioners of mainstream medicine favor integrative medicine. The present study, therefore, sought to explore the perceptions of conventional healthcare professionals on integrative medicine. METHODS： A qualitative design composed of semi-structured interviews was conducted with 23 conventional healthcare professionals comprising pharmacists, physicians, nurses and dieticians from two quasi-government hospitals in Accra, Ghana. RESULTS： Participants＇ knowledge of TM-CAM was low, and although they perceived alternative medicine as important to current conventional healthcare in Ghana, they expressed anxieties about the potential negative effects of the use of TM-CAM. This paradox was found to account for the low levels of use among these professionals, as well as the low level of recommendation to their patients. The practitioners surveyed recommended that alternative medicine could be integrated into mainstream allopathic healthcare in Ghana through improving knowledge, training as well as addressing concerns of safety and efficacy. These findings are discussed under the themes： the knowledge gap, the paradox of TM-CAM, experience of use and prescription, and guided integration. We did not observe any differences in views among the participants. CONCLUSION： The conventional healthcare professionals were ready to accept the idea of integrative medicine based on knowledge of widespread use and the potential role of TM-CAM products and practices in improving healthcare delivery in the country. 近几十年来,由于城市固体废物(MSW)产生的稳定增长,废物管理一直是全球的热门话题,使用传统的废物管理策略进行管理变得越来越具有挑战性。在一些发展中国家,人口增长和城市化变得无法控制,情况要糟糕得多。加纳的能源和废物管理部门都面临着许多问题,例如不可持续的废物管理方法和电力供需失衡,因此需要实施最佳的废物转化能源(Wt E)系统计划。利用城市固体废物发电将有助于加纳通过减少温室气体排放和处理固体废物对土地的需求,同时解决该国的电力问题,从而实现可持续发展。考虑到从废物中回收能源的新技术选择越来越多,为一个国家/地区选择最佳废物能源替代方案的综合决策过程非常复杂,因此需要多标准决策——制作方法。多标准决策方法在该领域变得越来越普遍,因为多个能源选择问题需要多个且经常相互矛盾的标准。因此,当前研究的主要目的是提出一种基于模糊集理论的综合多标准决策技术,用于在几种替代方案中选择一种最佳的废物能源转化技术,以在加纳进行投资和实施。允许10位专家参与决策过程,并允许他们利用语言变量对备选方案进行排名并确定本研究中评估标准的权重。层次分析法(AHP)用于通过分析各种选定标准之间的不同联系来估计评估标准的权重。然后设计了通过与理想解决方案相似的订单绩效模糊技术(TOPSIS)模型来对废物能源替代方案进行排名。根据技术、经济、环境和社会标准,根据十二个子标准评估了从废物中回收能量的四种替代技术(厌氧消化、气化、热解和等离子气化)。标准权重确定的层次分析结果表明,在选择要在加纳实施的Wt E技术时,必须优先考虑技术标准。其次是经济、环境和社会标准,作为决策过程中最不重要的标准。从所有子标准的整体排名来看,垃圾焚烧发电厂的发电能力获得了最高的优先权重,而健康影响则被列为最不重要的。来自模糊TOPSIS程序的废物能源替代方案的最终排名结果还表明,根据选定的评估标准,厌氧消化是在加纳实施的最佳Wt E替代方案。气化排名第二,其次是热解和等离子气化作为最不优选的替代方案。敏感性分析表明所得结果具有高度的一致性、稳健性和稳定性。目前的工作建议应促进厌氧消化和气化的整合,因为与独立系统相比,它有可能在所有选择标准下提供均衡的Wt E技术。当前研究的结果可能有助于加纳政府和其他潜在投资者选择合适的Wt E技术,该技术可在多项标准下提供最大利益,从而最大限度地减少加纳的电力和废物管理问题。此外,对最重要的可持续性标准的评估可以作为加纳未来废物转化为能源研究的指标系统。

Climate change remains arguably one of the most important issues facing the world in the 21st *** to the Paris Agreement,the world should strive to limit global mean temperature change by 2100 to below 1.5-2℃above pre-industrial levels[1].To achieve this goal,global net carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions should reach zero no later than 2050 for the realization of the1.5℃target and 2070 for the 2℃target,respectively[2].Since the introduction of this global commitment,several mitigation options have been proposed to achieve the climate goal.

Long-lasting microbial larvicides for controlling insecticide resistant and outdoor transmitting vectors:a cost-effective supplement for malaria interventions

The issues of pyrethroid resistance and outdoor malaria parasite transmission have prompted the WHO to call for the development and adoption of viable alternative vector control *** source management is one of the core malaria vector interventions recommended by the Ministry of Health in many African countries,but it is rarely implemented due to concerns on its *** long-lasting microbial larvicide can be a promising cost-effective supplement to current vector control and elimination methods because microbial larvicide uses killing mechanisms different from pyrethroids and other chemical *** has been shown to be effective in reducing the overall vector abundance and thus both indoor and outdoor *** our opinion,the long-lasting formulation can potentially reduce the cost of larvicide field application,and should be evaluated for its cost-effectiveness,resistance development,and impact on non-target organisms when integrating with other malaria vector control *** this opinion,we highlight that long-lasting microbial larvicide can be a potential cost-effective product that complements current front-line long-lasting insecticidal nets(LLINs)and indoor residual spraying(IRS)programs for malaria control and *** larviciding targets immature mosquitoes,reduces both indoor and outdoor transmission and is not affected by vector resistance to synthetic *** control method is a shift from the conventional LLINs and IRS programs that mainly target indoor-biting and resting adult mosquitoes.

Screening of Anti-Infectives against Leishmania donovani

Aim: To evaluate in vitro the effectiveness of several anti-infective agents alone and in combination against Leishmania donovani. Method: A convenient stratified sampling method was used to obtain selected anti-infective agents. For individual drug samples, Half Maximal Inhibitory Concentrations (IC50) were obtained using the broth dilution method. The IC50’s of the drugs which were active against L. donovani were used as reference values to prepare drug combinations for the modified microdilution checkerboard method. Results: Five (5) out of the fifty-six (56) drugs used showed activity (inhibition of cell growth) against L. donovani cells. They include Quinine sulphate (IC50 = 0.089 μg/ml), gentamicin (IC50 = 8.1 μg/ml), amodiaquine (IC50 = 138 μg/ml) and the two standard drugs: Amphotericin B (IC50 = 6.3 μg/ml) and Pentamidine (IC50 = 25 μg/ml). The remaining fifty-one (51) drugs did not show any inhibition within the range of concentrations used (1.25 - 160 μg/ml). The drug combinations of Pentamidine/Amodiaquine, Pentamidine/ Quinine sulphate, Pentamidine/Gentamicin, Amphotericin B/Quinine Sulphate, Amphotericin B/ Gentamicin, Amodiaquine/Quinine sulphate and Amodiaquine/Gentamicin showed synergistic effects against L. donovani whereas the Amphotericin B/Amodiaquine combination was antagonistic. Notable in the results obtained was the high effectiveness of quinine sulphate in inhibiting the growth of L. donovani. Quinine sulphate, though not indicated for leishmania treatment, was more effective than the two standard drugs and has a potential of playing a significant role in the treatment of leishmaniasis. Conclusion: This study has revealed five (5) anti-infective agents that by themselves or in combinations show activity against L. donovani.
