The horticultural sector has undergone tremendous growth in Kenya and is now the second largest f.reign income earning sector in the country. Lake Naivasha is the hub of.large scale horticultural f.rming in Kenya. This growth coupled with increased use of.pesticides, may increase the possibility of.pesticide exposure and its associated risks to workers and residents of.the region. The purpose of.this study was to assess the symptoms commonly experienced by residents of.Naivasha town and their possible association to pesticide exposure. Purposive sampling of.residents f.om Kamere, Kwa Muia, Kioto and Karagita was perf.rmed, as these residential areas have signif.cant numbers of.f.ower f.rm workers. By random selection, a total of.801 community members were recruited to participate in the study and data was collected by completing the prepared questionnaire and f.om clinical examinations. Results indicate that several residents exhibited respiratory;skin, joints and bones;and nervous system symptoms. We f.und a higher f.equency of.symptoms among planters, weeders, harvesters than in sprayers working in horticultural f.rms. We recommend training to planters, weeders, harvesters who are mainly women (61.6%) in this study concerning pesticide use as do sprayers;and second, longer reentry times between the last spraying of.pesticide and entry of.these workers is warranted, particularly in greenhouses. In this regard, reentry times f.r greenhouses and f.elds established f.r specif.c pesticides in Europe, North America, Japan or Australia should be adapted by Kenya, and these guidelines enf.rced by the Government of.Kenya to reduce exposure to pesticides within this vulnerable work group. These workers should also use protective clothing including gloves and masks at all times while handling chemicals or recently sprayed plants or f.owers. f.ur new f.uorescent sensors(1-4)based on the 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide f.uorophores(Naps)have been synthesized based on the classical f.uorophore-spacer-receptor *** f.ur compounds all gave rise to emission bands centred at ca.535 nm,which were f.und to be highly pH dependent,the emission being‘switched on’in acidic media,while being quenched due to PET f.om the amino moieties to the excited state of.the Nap at more alkaline *** luminescent pH dependence f.r these probes was f.und to be highly dependent on the substitution on the imide site,as well as the polyamine chain attached to the position 4-amino *** the case of.sensor 2 the presence of.the 4-amino-aniline dominated the pH dependent ***,at higher pH,PET quenching was also f.und to occur f.om the polyamine ***,2 is better described as a receptor1-spacer1-f.uorophore-spacer2-receptor2 system,where the dominant PET process is due to(normally less f.vourable)‘directional’PET quenching f.om the 4-amino-aniline unit to the Nap *** trends and pH f.uorescence dependences were also seen f.r 3 and *** compounds were also tested f.r their imaging potential and toxicity against HeLa cells(using DRAQ5 as nuclear stain which does now show pH dependent changes in acidic and neutral pH)and the results demonstrated that these compounds have reduced cellular viability at moderately high concentrations(with IC50 values between ca.8-30μmol?L^?1),but were f.und to be suitable f.r intracellular pH determination at 1μmol?L^?1 concentrations,where no real toxicity was *** allowed us to employ these as lysosomal probes at sub-toxic concentrations,where the Nap based emission was f.und to be pH depended,mirroring that seen in aqueous solution f.r 1-4,with the main f.uorescence changes occurring within acidic to neutral pH.

Interactions Between Temperature and Sugars in the Regulation of.Leaf.Senescence in the Perennial Herb Arabis alpina L.

Annual plants usually f.ower and set seed once bef.re senescence results in the death of.the whole plant （monocarpic senescence）. Leaf.senescence also occurs in polycarpic perennials; even in ＂evergreen＂ species individual leaves senesce. In the annual model Arabidopsis thaliana sugars accumulate in the senescent leaves and senescence is accelerated by high sugar availability. Similar to A. thaliana, sugar contents increased with leaf.age in the perennial Arabis alpina grown under warm conditions （22℃ day/18 night）. At 5℃, sugar contents in non-senescent leaves were higher than at a warm temperature, but dependent on the accession, either sugars did not accumulate or their contents decreased in old leaves. In A. alpina plants grown in their natural habitat in the Alps, sugar contents declined with leaf.age. Growth at a cold temperature slightly delayed senescence in A. alpina. In both warm and cold conditions, an external glucose supply accelerated senescence, but natural variation was f.und in this response. In conclusion, sugar accumulation under warm conditions could accelerate leaf.senescence in A. alpina plants, but genotype-specif.c responses and interactions with growth temperature are likely to inf.uence senescence under natural conditions.

Purpose'. To examine adolescent experiences and perspectives of.the GoActive intervention (ISRCTN31583496) using mixed methods processevaluation to determine satisf.ction with intervention components and interpret a*dolescents experiences of.the intervention process in order toprovide insights f.r f.ture intervention ***'. Participants (n = 1542;13.2 土 0.4 years, mean 土 SD) provided questionnaire data at baseline (shyness, activity level) and post-intervention(intervention acceptability, satisf.ction with components). Between-group dif.erences (boys vs. girls and shy/inactive vs. others) weretested with linear regression models, accounting f.r school clustering. Data f.om 16 individual interviews (shy/inactive) and 11 f.cus groupswith 48 participants (mean = 4;range 2—7) were thematically coded. Qualitative and quantitative data were merged in an integrative mixedmethods convergence matrix, which denoted convergence and dissonance across ***'. Ef.ect sizes f.r quantitative results were small and may not represent substantial between-group dif.erences. Boys (vs. girls) pref.rredclass-based sessions (0 = 0.2, 95% conf.dence interval (CI): 0.1—0.3);qualitative data suggested that this was because boys pref.rred competition,which was supported quantitatively (0 = 0.2, 95%CI: 0.1-0.3). Shy/inactive students did not enjoy the competition (0 = -0.3, 95%CI:—0.5 to —0.1). Boys enjoyed trying new activities more (0 = 0.1, 95%CI: 0.1 -0.2);qualitative data indicated a desire to try new activities acrossall subgroups but identif.ed barriers to choosing unf.miliar activities with self.imposed choice restriction leading to boredom. Qualitative datahighlighted critique of.mentorship;adolescents liked the idea, but older mentors did not meet ***. 自主制造系统的研究既受益于信息物理融合系统这一新技术的推动，也响应工业实际需求的号召。目前，先进的传感器技术、数字孪生、人工智能和新型通信技术可以支持半结构化工业环境中的自主操作，可实现对生产过程的实时监控、情况识别和预测、自动和自适应（重新）规划、团队合作，以及通过学习提高性能。本文总结了实现自主工业机器人技术的主要需求，提出了实现此类系统的通用工作流程，并介绍了HUN-REN SZTAKI最近在装配、焊接、打磨、拾取和放置以及机械加工等多个应用领域的广泛实践。这些解决方案的共同点是以通用的数字孪生概念为核心。最后，本文提出实现工业自主机器人解决方案的一般建议，并讨论了未来要研究的一些开放性问题。
