Objectives Th. video h.ad im.ulse test(vh.T)is used as a m.asure of com.ensation yet it’s stability in patients with.vestibular path.logy is *** 144 patients(n=72 fem.le,m.an 54.46±15.8 years)were grouped into one of th.ee prim.ry diagnoses(Periph.ral,Central,or m.xed).subjects were furth.r categorized based on sex(m.le versus fem.le),ear(left versus righ.;ipsilesional versus contralesional),age(six groups ranging from.19 to 84 years),and duration between visits(five groups,m.an 191.46±sE 29.42 days,m.dian 55.5 days).Th. gain of th. VOR during passive h.ad rotation was m.asured for each.sem.circular canal(h.rizontal,anterior,posterior).Results Th.re was no difference in th. VOR gain with.n any sem.circular canal between th. two visits(h.rizontal:p=0.179;anterior:p=0.628;posterior:p=0.613).h.wever,th. VOR gain from.th. h.rizontal canals was h.gh.r th.n th. vertical canals for each.visit(ps diagnosed with.periph.ral vestibular path.logy h.d significantly lower(p≤0.001)h.rizontal sem.circular canal gains at each.*** was no difference in VOR gain between sex(p=0.215)or age groupings(p=0.331).Test-retest reliability of vh.T in patient subjects is good(ICC=0.801)and th. VOR gain values across two separate visits were significant and positively correlated(r=0.67)regardless of sex,ear,age,or duration between *** Th. vh.T is a stable m.asure of VOR gain over two different tim.s across a variety of vestibular patients with.no influence of age or sex.

Global Burden of Diseases,Injuries,and Risk Factors study 2017 *** evaluate trends in prevalence,incidence,and m.rtality over th. study period from.1990 to 2017,we calculated values for annual percentage ch.nge(APC)and corresponding 95%confidence intervals(CIs)using joinpoint regression ***:A significant increase in h.V/AIDs prevalence was observed for 1990 to 2009(APC:10.7;95%CI:10.4,11.0;Ph.n rem.ined stable for 2009 to 2017(APC:0.7;95%CI:-0.3,1.7;P=0.1).A significant increase in h.V incidence was also observed for 1990 to 2005(APC:13.0;95%CI:12.6,13.4;Ph.n a significant decrease was detected for 2005 to 2017(APC:-6.5;95%CI:-7.0,-6.1;Psignificant increase in AIDs-related m.rtality rate was detected for 1990 to 2004(APC:10.3;95%CI:9.3,11.3;Pstability for 2004 to 2013(APC:1.3;95%CI:-0.7,3.3;P=0.2),and th.n anoth.r significant increase for 2013 to 2017(APC:15.3;95%CI:8.7,22.2;Psions:Alth.ugh.prevalence h.s stabilized and incidence h.s declined,AIDs-related m.rtality h.s risen sh.rply in recent *** findings suggest m.re m.st be done to bring people into treatm.nt earlier,retain th.m.in treatm.nt m.re effectively,actively seek to reenter th.m.in treatm.nt if th.y dropout,and im.rove th. quality of treatm.nt and care regim.ns.

Th. presenting and prescribing patterns of m.graine in an Australian em.rgency departm.nt: A descriptive exploratory study

BACKGROUND: m.graine is a com.on neurological condition th.t frequently presents to th. em.rgency departm.nt(ED). m.ny m.dications are available to treat m.graine. Th.s study aim. to ch.racterize th. dem.graph.cs of patients wh. present to a large m.tropolitan ED with.m.graine, and to identify th. m.dications used in treating th.s ***: Th.s study is a retrospective database interrogation of clinical records, used to collect quantitative data on patient dem.graph.cs and m.dication prescriptions in th. ***: A total of 2 228 patients were identified as being treated for m.graine over a 10-year period. Th. proportion of th. ED population presenting with.m.graine steadily increased in th.s tim.. Fem.les(71%) m.re com.only presented to th. ED with.m.graine th.n m.les. Th. m.graine population was signifi cantly younger(m.37.05, sD=13.23) th.n th. wh.le ED population(m.46.17 sD=20.50)(Pm.dications were used in th. treatm.nt of m.graine in th. ED. sim.le analgesics such.as paracetam.l and ibuprofen, anti-em.tics and intravenous(IV) fluids with.ph.noth.azine additives were com.only used. Over 20% of patients were prescribed oral or parenteral opiates(42 of 194 initial m.dication prescriptions, and 64 of 292 as required m.dication prescriptions). Triptans were very rarely ***: m.graine is an increasingly com.on presentation to th. ED. People presenting to th. ED with.m.graine are m.re likely to be younger and fem.le th.n th. general ED population. Peak presentations for m.graines occurred in January and February. Th. m.dications th.t are prescribed in th. ED for m.graine is varied and are not always in line with.current evidence for th. treatm.nt of m.graine. Th. excessive reliance on opiates and lack of th. use of triptans denotes a signifi cant variation from.publish.d guidelines.

Deep Carbon Observatory (DCO) is a ten-year research.program.to investigate th. quantities, m.vem.nts, form., and origins of carbon in Earth. m.re th.n 90% of Earth.s carbon m.y reside in th. planet’s deep interior, and DCO’s overarch.ng m.ssion is to understand Earth.s entire carbon cycle—beyond th. atm.sph.re, oceans, and sh.llow crustal environm.nts, wh.ch.h.ve drawn m.st previous research.attention—to include th. deep carbon cycle [1,2]. A decade of focused research.h.s led to m.jor discoveries by DCO scientists on th. ph.sical, ch.m.cal, and biological roles of carbon in Earth.
