Electric power distribution systems are vulnerable to disruption due to severe weather events,especially *** vulnerability is expected to increase over time due to the impact of climate change on hurricanes and the decay of wood poles that support the distribution *** study investigates the effectiveness of using fiber-reinforced polymer(FRP)sleeve to reinforce wood poles subjected to decay and hurricane hazard to restore their lost strength and extend their effective service *** potential impact of climate change on the pole decay rate and the intensity and frequency of hurricanes is also *** optimal FRP repair time based on the structural reliability of the poles is also *** locations with varying climates are chosen to evaluate and compare the results:miami,Charleston,and New York *** results show that in all three locations,the application of the FRP sleeve can more than double the service life of the pole depending on the time of the *** results also show that climate change significantly increases the vulnerability of the *** probability of failure of the pole at the end of the 21st century under RCP8.5 emission scenario in miami,Charleston,and New York City increase by about 30%,70%,and 73%,respectively,compared to a no climate change *** climate change is only assumed to affect the decay of the pole,i.e.,no change in hurricane hazard intensity,the corresponding increases in failure probability are 5%,22%,and 20% in miami,Charleston,and New York City,*** implies that most of the impact of climate change on pole failure risk is due to the increase in hurricane *** impact of climate change on decay is found to be comparatively *** increases with time as variation in temperature and precipitation becomes more prominent towards the end of the 21st *** optimization results show that the optimal FRP repair time depends on how the FRP affects the pole's deca

Innovative building materials are being used in building envelopes for reducing their heating and cooling *** paper aims to assess the thermal impact of using lightweight concrete in Lebanese building constructions by pouring an 8 cm thickness of lightweight concrete on the roof and the slab and replacing traditional hollow concrete block by lightweight concrete *** properties of two different samples were experimentally determined:the first one(558 kg/m^(3))used for the roof and the slab and the second one(1074 kg/m^(3))used for the *** numerical simulations were carried out for a Lebanese traditional detached house using the characteristics of these two *** thermally improved Light Weight Concrete building(LWC)was compared to a traditional Lebanese house base case(BC)using a dynamic building energy simulation tool in the four different Lebanese climate zones:coastal,mid-mountain,mountain,and inland *** results highlight the effectiveness of integrating LWC to building envelopes by reducing energy consumption and improving thermal comfort in both winter and summer climate conditions and in the different Lebanese climatic *** paper demonstrates that the use of LWC in the vertical walls replacing the traditional hollow blocks can reduce the heating needs by up to 9%and by up to 13%for cooling *** the other hand,adding a LWC roof screed has a very high impact on cooling and heating energy consumption,which can reach up to 74%in cooling energy savings and up to 24%in heating energy savings.

Background Proteome characterization of the porcine endometrium and extraembryonic membranes is important to understand mother-embryo *** this study,the proteome of the endometrium and cho-rioallantoic membrane was characterized in pregnant sows(PS)during early gestation(d 18 and 24 of gestation)and in the endometrium of non-pregnant sows(NPS)during the same days using LC-mS/mS *** UniProtKB database and ClueGO were used to obtain functional Gene Ontology annotations and biological and functional networks,*** Our analysis yielded 3,254 and 3,457 proteins identified in the endometrium of PS and NPS,respectively;of these,1,753 being common while 1,501 and 1,704 were exclusive to PS and NPS,*** addition,we iden-tified 3,968 proteins in the extraembryonic membranes of *** analyses of function revealed some proteins had relevance for the immune system process and biological adhesion in endometrium while the embryonic chorion displayed abundance of proteins related to cell adhesion and cytoskeletal organization,suggesting they dominated the moment of endometrial remodeling,implantation and adhesion of the lining *** are available via Pro-teomeXchange with identifier *** This is the first in-depth proteomic characterization of the endometrium and extraembryonic mem-branes during weeks 3 to 4 of gestation;data that contribute to the molecular understanding of the dynamic environ-ment during this critical period,associated with the majority of pregnancy losses.

New Precipitation and Temperature Grids for Northern Patagonia： Advances in Relation to Global Climate Grids

Climate data of mean monthly temperature and total monthly precipitation compiled from different sources in northern Patagonia were interpolated to 20-km resolution grids over the period 1997-2010. This northern Patagonian climate grid （NPCG） improves upon previous gridded products in terms of its spatial resolution and number of contributing stations, since it incorporates 218 and 114 precipitation and temper- ature records, respectively. A geostatistical method using surface elevation from a Digital Elevation model （DEm） as the ancillary variable was used to interpolate station data into even spaced points. The maps provided by NPCG are consistent with the broad spatial and temporal patterns of the northern Patagonian climate, showing a comprehensive representation of the latitudinal and altitudinal gradients in temperature and precipitation, as well as their related patterns of seasonality and continentality. We compared the per- formance of NPCG and various other datasets available to the climate community for northern Patagonia. The grids used for the comparison included those of the Global Precipitation Climatology Project, ERA- Interim, Climate Research Unit （University of East Anglia）, and University of Delaware. Based on three statistics that quantitatively assess the spatial coherence of gridded data against available observations （bias, mAE, and RmSE）, NPCG outperforms other global grids. NPCG represents a useful tool for understand- ing climate variability in northern Patagonia and a valuable input for regional models of hydrological and ecological processes. Its resolution is optimal for validating data from the general circulation models and working with raster data derived from remote sensing, such as vegetation indices.
