Topology optimization of piezoelectric bi-material actuators with velocity feedback control

In recent years,the new technologies and discoveries on manufacturing materials have encouraged researchers to investigate the appearance of material properties that are not naturally *** featuring a specific stiffness,or structures that combine non-structural and stmctural functions are applied in the aerospace,electronics and medical industry ***,structures designed for dynamic actuation with reduced vibration response are the focus of this *** bi-material and multifunctional concepts are considered for the design of a controlled piezoelectric actuator with vibration suppression by means of the topology optimization method(TOM).The bi-material piezoelectric actuator(BPEA)has its metallic host layer designed by the TOM,which defines the structural function,and the electric function is given by two piezo-ceramic layers that act as a sensor and an actuator coupled with a constant gain active velocity feedback control(AVFc).The AVFc,provided by the piezoelectric layers,affects the structural damping of the system through the velocity state variables readings in time *** dynamic equation analyzed throughout the optimization procedure is fully elaborated and *** dynamic response for the rectangular fbur-noded finite element analysis is obtained by the newmark's time-integration method,which is applied to the physical and the adjoint systems,given that the adjoint formulation is needed for the sensitivity analysis.A gradient-based optimization method is applied to minimize the displacement energy output measured at a predefined degree-of-freedom of the BPEA when a transient mechanical load is *** are obtained for different control gain values to evaluate their influence on the final topology.

For carbon-free electrochemical fuel formation,the electrochemical cell must be powered by renewable *** solar-powered H_(2) fuel from water typically requires multiple photovoltaic cells and/or junctions to drive the water splitting *** of the lower thermodynamic requirements to oxidize ammonia compared to water,solar cells with smaller open circuit voltages can provide the required potential for ammonia *** this work,a single perovskite solar cell with an open-circuit potential of 1.08 V is coupled to a 2-electrode electrochemical cell employing hybrid electroanodes functionalized with Ru-based molecular *** device is active for more than 30 min,producing n_(2) and H_(2) in a 1:2.9 ratio with 89%faradaic efficiency with no external applied *** work illustrates that hydrogen production from ammonia can be driven by conventional semiconductors.

Temporal stability and directional change in a color cline of a marine snail from nW Spain

The evolution and maintenance of color clines is a classic topic of research in evolutionary ***,studies analyzing the temporal dynamics of such clines are much less frequent,due to the difficulty of obtaining reliable data about past color distributions along environmen-tal *** this article,we describe a case of decades-long temporal stability and directional change in a color cline of the marine snail Littorina saxatilis along the coastal inlet of the Ria de Vigo(nW Spain).*** from this area shows a clear color cline with 3 distinct areas from the innermost to the more wave-exposed localities of the Ria:the inner,protected localities show an abundance of fawn-like individuals;the intermediate localities show a high diversity of colors;and the outer,wave-exposed localities show populations with a high frequency of a black and lineated *** compare data from the 1970s and 2022 in the same localities,showing that the cline has kept relatively stable for at least over half a century,except for some directional change and local variability in the frequency of certain *** regression analyses and biodiversity measures are presented to provide clues into the selective pressures that might be involved in the maintenance of this color *** research avenues to properly test the explanatory power of these selective agents as well as the possible origins of the cline are discussed.

Prevalence and ecological factors affecting the distribution of plant-parasitic nematodes in Prunus groves in Spain

A wide survey was conducted to study plant-parasitic nematodes(PPns)associated with Prunus groves in *** research aimed to determine the prevalence and distribution of PPns in Prunus groves,as well as the influence of explanatory variables describing soil,climate and agricultural management in structuring the variation of PPns community composition.A total of 218 sampling sites were surveyed and 84 PPn species belonging to 32 genera were identified based of an integrative taxonomic *** species considered as potential limiting factors in Prunus production,such as Meloidogyne arenaria,***,***,Pratylenchus penetrans and ***,were identified in this *** soil physico-chemical(c,Mg,n,na,OM,P,pH and clay,loamy sand and sandy loam texture classes),four climate(Bio04,Bio05,Bio13 and Bio14)and four agricultural management variables(grove-use history less than 10 years,irrigation,apricot seedling rootstock,and Montclar rootstock)were identified as the most influential variables driving spatial patterns of PPns *** particular,younger plantations showed higher values for species richness and diversity indices than groves cultivated for more than 20 years with Prunus *** study increases the knowledge of the distribution and prevalence of PPns associated with Prunus rhizosphere,as well as on the influence of explanatory variables driving the spatial structure PPns communities,which has important implications for the successful design of sustainable management strategies in the future in this agricultural system.

Background:The AbSeS-classification defines specific phenotypes of patients with intra-abdominal infection based on the(1)setting of infection onset(community-acquired,early onset,or late-onset hospital-acquired),(2)presence or absence of either localized or diffuse peritonitis,and(3)severity of disease expression(infection,sepsis,or septic shock).This classification system demonstrated reliable risk stratification in intensive care unit(IcU)patients with intra-abdominal *** study aimed to describe the epidemiology of IcU patients with pancreatic infection and assess the relationship between the components of the AbSeS-classification and ***:This was a secondary analysis of an international observational study(“AbSeS”)investigating IcU patients with intra-abdominal *** patients with pancreatic infection were included in this analysis(n=165).Mortality was defined as IcU mortality within 28 days of observation for patients discharged earlier from the *** with mortality were assessed using logistic regression analysis and reported as odds ratio(OR)and 95%confidence interval(cI).Results:The overall mortality was 35.2%(n=58).The independent risk factors for mortality included older age(OR=1.03,95%cI:1.0 to 1.1 P=0.023),localized peritonitis(OR=4.4,95%cI:1.4 to 13.9 P=0.011),and persistent signs of inflammation at day 7(OR=9.5,95%cI:3.8 to 23.9,Pntation of additional source control interventions within the first week(OR=4.0,95%cI:1.3 to 12.2,P=0.013).Gramnegative bacteria were most frequently isolated(n=58,49.2%)without clinically relevant differences in microbial etiology between survivors and ***:In pancreatic infection,a challenging source/damage control and ongoing pancreatic inflammation appear to be the strongest contributors to an unfavorable short-term *** this limited series,essentials of the AbSeS-classification,such as the setting of infection onset,diffuse

A socioeconomic approach to the profile of microcredit holders from the Hispanic minority in the USA

The subject of this study is the microcredit market in the USA,more specifically in *** justification for choosing this specific state is the massive presence of the Hispanic *** will facilitate a generalization of the obtained results to the microcredit market in Latin American ***,the objective of this study is to analyze the profile of microcredit holders and their companies from socioeconomic and financial points of *** our data also consider the degree of repayment of the microloans included in the sample,the clients’profile is related to the punctuality or default of their corresponding loan repayments using the methodology of multi-nomial logit *** variables used in this study refer to personal information concerning borrowers(gender,age,education level,and marital status),the economic situation of their respective companies(closeness to the lender,number of workers,and revenues),and the characteristics of granted loans(principal,term,and purpose).However,the results of the regression show that only two variables are significant at the 5%significance level:the borrower’s age,which has a positive effect on repay-ment punctuality,and the loan term,which exhibits a negative *** findings of this study have clear implications,as they can help lenders design suitable microloans adjusted to customer ***,future research should include other demograph-ics and characteristics of affected companies.
