With increasing life expectancy， neurodegenerative diseases have become one of the leading causes of ill-health in the elderly. Preventive strategies include following healthy diets， such as the Mediterranean diet， which is particularly rich in polyphenols， bioactive compounds with neuroprotective properties. The aim of this study was to assess the association of microbial phenolic metabolites (MPM) with cognition. This cr.ss-sectional analysis was performed with 200 participants of the PrEDIMED trial (Barcelona-Clinic recruitment center). A novel method based on liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was used to identify urinary MPM (protocatechuic acid， enterodiol glucuronide， enterolactone glucuronide， urolithin B glucuronide， and vanillic acid glucuronide)， and cognitive function was evaluated with neuropsychological tests. Multivariable-adjusted ordinary least squar.s regr.ssion was used to assess the associations between cognitive function and MPM， and a score was calculated as the weighted sum of MPM. A higher MPM score was associated with better frontal lobe function. Among individual metabolites， vanillic acid glucuronide was correlated with frontal cognitive performance. Participants with higher concentrations of vanillic acid glucuronide and urolithin B glucuronide obtained better.scor.s in the Color Trail Test part 2. A higher.score for urinary multi-MPM was associated with better frontal cognitive performance in an older Mediterranean population.

synechocystis *** 6803(hereafter.synechocystis)is a model organism for.studying photosynthesis,energy metabolism,and environmental *** known as the first fully sequenced phototrophic organism,synechocystis still has almost half of its proteome without functional *** this study,by using co-fractionation coupled with liquid chromatographytandem mass spectrometry(LC-Ms/Ms),we define 291 multi-protein complexes,encompassing24,092 protein±protein interactions(PPIs)among 2062 distinct gene *** information not only reveals the roles of photosynthesis in metabolism,cell motility,DNA repair,cell division,and other physiological processes,but also shows how protein functions vary from bacteria to higher plants due to changes in interaction *** also allows us to uncover the functions of hypothetical proteins,such as sll0445,sll0446,and sll0447 involved in photosynthesis and cell motility,and sll1334 involved in regulation of fatty acid *** we pr.sent the most extensive PPI data for.synechocystis so far,which provide critical insights into fundamental molecular mechanisms in cyanobacteria.

Clinical Predictors of Prolonged Hospital stay after Acute stroke: relevance of Medical Complications

Purpose: This study aims to identify clinical predictors of prolonged hospital stay after acute stroke based on data collected from a pr.spective hospital-based acute stroke registry. Methods: All patients with first-ever ischemic stroke and primary intracerebral hemorrhage included in the sagrat Cor Hospital of Barcelona stroke database over a 17-year period were assessed. Prolonged hospital stay was defined as hospitalization for longer than 12 days after admission. Demographic data, cardiovascular r.sk factors, clinical factors, neuroimaging findings, and outcome were compared in patients hospitalized for more or less than 12 days. Logistic regr.ssion analysis was used to assess the independent influence of statistically significant variables in the bivariate analysis and duration of hospitalization. r.sults: Of a total of 3112 acute stroke patients included in the study, prolonged hospital stay was recorded in 1536 (49.4%). Male sex (Or = 1.16), limb weakness (Or = 1.79), vascular complications (Or = 2.68), urinary complications (Or = 2.56), and infectious complications (Or = 1.78) were independently associated with longer.stay, whereas symptom free at discharge (Or = 0.45) and lacunar infarction (Or = 0.43) were inversely associated with prolonged hospitalization. Conclusion: In-hospital medical complications (vascular, urinary, and infectious) are relevant factors influencing duration of hospitalization after acute stroke. Therefore, prevention of potentially modifiable r.sk factors for medical complications is an important aspect of the early management of patients with stroke.

Cortical laminar necr.sis related to migrainous cerebral infarction

We pr.sent a 29-year-old woman with a long history of attacks of migraine with and without visual *** was a heavy smoker(20 cigarettes/d) and was currently taking oral contraceptives. During a typical migraine attack with aura, she developed dysarthria,left brachial hemipar.sis and hemihypoesthesia and brief and autolimited left clonic facial movements. Four hours after onset, vascular headache and focal sensorimotor neurological deficit were the only persisting symptoms and, on seventh day, she was completely recovered. Brain magnetic r.sonance imaging on day 20 after onset showed a subacute ischemic lesion in the right temporo-parietal cortex compatible with cortical laminar necr.sis(CLN). Extensive neurological work-up done to rule out other known causes of cerebral infarct with CLN was unrevealing. Only ten of 3.808 consecutive stroke patients included in our.stroke registry over a 19-year period fulfilled the strictly defined International Headache society criteria for migrainous stroke. The pr.sent case is the unique one in our.stroke registry that pr.sents CLN related to migrainous cerebral infarction. Migrainous infarction can r.sult in CLN.

Grade 4 febrile neutropenia and Fournier.s syndrome associated with triple therapy for hepatitis C vir.s:A case report

The use of triple therapy for hepatitis C not only increases the rate of sustained virological r.sponses compared with the use of only interferon and ribavirin(rBV) but also leads to an increased number of side effects. The subject of this study was a 53-year-old male who was cirrhotic with hepatitis C vir.s genotype 1 A and was a previous null non-r.sponder. We initially attempted retreatment with boceprevir(BOC), Peginterferon and rBV, and a decrease in viral load was observed in the 8th week. In week 12, he pr.sented with disorientation, flapping, fever, tachypnea, arterial hypotension and tachycardia. He also exhibitedleucopenia with neutropenia. Cefepime and filgr.stim were initiated, and treatment for hepatitis C was suspended. A myelogram revealed hypoplasia, cytotoxicity and maturational retardation. After 48 h, he developed bilateral inguinal erythema that evolved throughout the perineal area to the root of the thighs, with exulcerations and an outflow of seropurulent secretions. Because we hypothesized that he was suffering from Fournier.s syndrome, treatment was replaced with the antibiotics imipenem, linezolid and clindamycin. After this new treatment paradigm was initiated, his lesions regr.ssed without requiring surgical debridement. Triple therapy requir.s knowledge regarding the management of adverse effects and drug interactions; it also requir.s an understanding of the importance of r.specting the guidelines for the withdrawal of treatment. In this case report, we observed an adverse event that had not been previously reported in the literature with the use of BOC.

The effects of applying an electromagnetic interaction of low intensity (emili) on the micr.structure and corr.sion r.sistance of 7075-T651 Al alloy plates (13 mm in thickness) during modified indirect electric arc (MIEA) welding were investigated. The welding process was conducted in a single pass with a heat input of ~1.5 kJ/mm. The micr.structural observations of the welds were correlated with the effect of emili on the local mechanical properties and the corr.sion r.sistance in natural seawater by means of microhardness measurements and electrochemical impedance spectr.scopy, r.spectively. Micr.structural characterization of the welds revealed a grain refinement in the weld metal due to the electromagnetic stirring induced by emili of 3 mT during welding. In addition, observations in the scanning electron micr.scope showed that the precipitation of Cu-rich phases and segregation of eutectics were reduced in the heat affected zone (HAZ) also as an effect of emili. The high corr.sion dissolution of the 7075-T651 welds in natural seawater and the extent of overaging in the HAZ were reduced when welding with emili of 3 mT. Thus, emili along with the MIEA technique may lead to welded joints with better micr.structural character.stics, improved mechanical properties in the HAZ and reduced electrochemical activity.
