The need to generate power from renewable sources to reduce demand for fossil fuels and the damage of their resulting carbon dioxide emissions is now well understood. Wind is among the most popular and fastest growing sources of alternative energy in the world. It is an inexhaustible, indigenous resource, pollution-free, and available almost any time of the day, especially in coastal regions. As a sustainable energy resource, electrical power generation from the wind is increasingly important in national and international energy policy in response to climate change. Experts predict that, with proper development, wind energy can meet up to 20% of US needs. Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWTs) are the most popular because of their higher efficiency. The aerodynamic characteristics and vibration of small scale HAWT with various numbers of blade designs have been investigated in this numerical study in order to improve its performance. SolidWorks was used for designing Computer Aided Design (CAD) models, and ANSYS software was used to study the dynamic flow around the turbine. Two, three, and five bladed HAWTs of 87 cm rotor diameter were designed. A HAWT tower of 100 cm long and 6 cm diameter was considered during this study while a shaft of 10.02 cm diameter was chosen. A good choice of airfoils and angle of attack is a key in the designing of a blade of rough surface and maintaining the maximum lift to drag ratio. The S818, S825 and S826 airfoils were used from the root to the tip and 4° critical angle of attack was considered. In this paper, a more appropriate numerical models and an improved method have been adopted in comparable with other models and methods in the literature. The wind flow around the whole wind turbine and static behavior of the HAWT rotor was solved using Moving Reference Frame (MRF) solver. The Public Water Supply Protection Value of Forests: A Watershed-Scale Ecosystem Services Analysis Based upon Total Organic Carbon

We developed a cost-based methodology to assess the value of forested watersheds to improve water quality in public water supplies. The developed methodology is applicable to other source watersheds to determine ecosystem services for water quality. We assess the value of forest land for source water mitigation of total organic carbon (TOC) through the use of linked watershed and reservoir simulation models and cost-based valuation economics. Watershed modeling results indicated that expected urbanization will increase TOC loads to Converse Reservoir (Mobile, AL). Reservoir model results indicated that future median TOC concentrations increased by 1.1 mg·L-1 between 1992 and 2020 at the source water intake. Depending upon dynamic reservoir TOC concentrations, additional drinking water treatment with powdered activated carbon (PAC) often is necessary between May and October to comply with Safe Drinking Water Act regulations. The cost for additional treatment was calculated using minimum and maximum volume treated with simulated TOC concentrations at the source water intake. Daily simulated TOC concentrations for the base scenario using 1992 land cover (3% urban) were compared with simulated TOC concentrations following forest to urban land conversion predicted in the watershed by 2020 (22% urban). The daily cost for additional drinking water treatment with PAC was calculated if simulated TOC concentrations exceeded 2.7 mg·L-1. The mean increase in daily treatment costs between base and future scenarios ranged from $91 to $95 per km2 per day for forest land water purification ecosystem services.

Britt belonging to red and green varieties harvested from eight areas in China and Japan were investigated for a new feasibility of water extract of *** *** compound contents were determined,identified and *** them,three cinnamic derivatives ranged from 0.09 to 10.10 mg/g dry basis(coumaroyl tartaric acid,0-0.76 mg/g,caffeic acid,0.07-0.84 mg/g,and rosmarinic acid,0-10.1 mg/g),flavonoids ranged from 3.43 to 18.53 mg/g(apigenin 7-O-caffeoylglucoside,0-1.16 mg/g;scutellarein 7-O-diglucuronide,0.10-1.84;luteolin 7-O-diglucuronide, 0.28-7.35;apigenin 7-O-diglucuronide,2.18-8.74;luteolin 7-0-glucuronide,0-0.51 scutellarein 7-O-glucuronide0.05-1.78),and anthocyanins(cis-shisonin,shisonin,malonylshisonin and cyanidin 3-O-(E)-caffeoylglucoside-5-O-malonylglucoside) which were detected in only red-green or red cultivars, range from 0.74 up to 1.78 mg/g.

Comparative Effects of Natural and Synthetic Fungicides on the Pink Root Disease of Onion (<i>Allium cepa </i>L.), in Nursery

Onion is an important vegetable in Senegal horticulture, where it occupies the first place. However in the greatest areas production like the Gandiolais, in the North of Senegal, Pink root disease caused by a soil born fungus Pyrenochaeta terrestris (Hansen) Gorentz, Walker and Larson affects its productivity especially in nursery. On soil sterilized and inoculated by the fungus, we tested 5 natural fungicides and 2 synthetic fungicides, to measure their effectiveness on the Pink root disease on onion, in nursery. The device used is a split plot with 4 repetitions and 8 treatments. The measured variables are the emergence rates, the survival rates and the infestation rates. Our experimentations have shown that, for the emergence rates, there is no significant difference between thiophanate-methyl (Pelt 44), Carbendazim (Bavistine), Azadirachta indica A. Juss and Carica papaya L. It is the same between C. papaya and Moringa oleifera Lam, between M. oleifera and Cassia alata L. It is also the same between C. alata and Crotolaria retusa L. Regarding the survival rates, there is no significant difference between thiophanate-methyl, Azadirachta indica, Carbendazim, C. papaya and M. oleifera. The same is true between M. oleifera and Cassia alata, and between C. alata and C. retusa. Concerning the infestation rates, apart from the control check, all other treatments show no difference.

Effect of Fish Meal Replacement by Unconventional Meal in the Post-Larval Diet of Clarias Gariepinus in Benin (West Africa)

To reduce the pressure on aquatic resources due to the use of fishmeal in fish feed, the mastery and use of alternative sources of fishmeal in all stages of fish development are essential. Five diets including 4 experimental and one control diet were considered. Experimental diets of post-larvae were developed from unconventional ingredients in which fishmeal was completely replaced by a mixture of brewer’s yeast, chicken viscera and maggots. These foods were tested on Clarias gariepinus post-larvae with an initial average weight of 80 ± 1 mg. 1500 fish individuals were equally distributed in 15 concrete basins with a volume of 500 L forming five treatments in triplicate. Fish individuals were fed, manually at a ration rate of 20%, four times per day. The specific growth rates were 8.38%/day in imported food and 6.35%/day in the experimental food receiving 45.5% of protein from unconventional meal. Similar results were obtained with the feed consumption index. These encouraging results show that it is possible to partially or completely replace fishmeal in catfish feed and obtain an economically profitable production. The recovery of waste such as chicken viscera, brewer’s yeast and soybean meal in fish food formulation as tested in this study is a good contribution to environmental sanitation.

A 64-year-old woman with no particular history presented with chronic pelvic pain since November 2021. The ultrasound performed showed multiple right ovarian cystic ranging from 0.4 to 4 cm on the long axis. She underwent a right salpingo-oophorectomy in May 2022. The anatomical pathology result is in favor of a papillary carcinoma developed on stroma ovarii. No adjuvant treatment was necessary since the tumor was well limited, without capsular rupture, stage IA. The thyroid test was normal. The patient is currently being monitored. There is no sign of recurrence 20 months after surgery.

Growth and fatty acid composition of Nile tilapia <i>Oreochromis niloticus</i>L. fed Azolla-diets, in tanks and in earthen ponds: A comparative study

Two 90-day experiments were conducted in the same period in tanks and in earthen ponds to study the effects of culture systems on growth and fatty acid (FA) of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) fingerlings (mean weight: 16.3 g) fed Azolla, as partial replacement for fish meal (FM). Diets were isonitrogenous (29.2% CP) and isoenergetic (16.9 kJ·g-1) containing 0% (A0), 10% (A10), 20% (A20), 30% (A30), 40% (A40) and 50% (A50) of Azolla meal (AM) respectively. Diet A0, without AM, acted as a control. In both experiments, fish growth decreased as AM level increased in diets (P P 30-A50). Interestingly, those fish were rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3). Consequently, the n-3/n-6 values decreased in tanks, whereas an increasing trend was found in ponds, and values were significantly higher in ponds than in tanks (0.35 - 0.53 vs. 0.08 - 0.17). The results suggest raising Nile tilapia with Azolladiets in ponds to improve growth and produce fish with a better FA composition, for the wellbeing of consumers.

BACKGROUND Surgery remains the primary treatment for localized colorectal cancer(CRC).Improving surgical decision-making for elderly CRC patients necessitates an accurate predictive *** To build a nomogram to predict the overall survival of elderly patients over 80 years undergoing CRC *** Two hundred and ninety-five elderly CRC patients over 80 years undergoing surgery at Singapore General Hospital between 2018 and 2021 were identified from the American College of Surgeons–National Surgical Quality Improvement Program(ACS-NSQIP)*** variables were selected using univariate Cox regression,and clinical feature selection was performed by the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression.A nomogram for 1-and 3-year overall survival was constructed based on 60%of the study cohort and tested on the remaining 40%.The performance of the nomogram was evaluated using the concordance index(C-index),area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC),and calibration *** groups were stratified using the total risk points derived from the nomogram and the optimal cut-off *** curves were compared between the high-and low-risk *** Eight predictors:Age,Charlson comorbidity index,body mass index,serum albumin level,distant metastasis,emergency surgery,postoperative pneumonia,and postoperative myocardial infarction,were included in the *** AUC values for the 1-year survival were 0.843 and 0.826 for the training and validation cohorts,*** AUC values for the 3-year survival were 0.788 and 0.750 for the training and validation cohorts,respectively.C-index values of the training cohort(0.845)and validation cohort(0.793)suggested the excellent discriminative ability of the *** curves demonstrated a good consistency between the predictions and actual observations of overall survival in both training and validation cohorts.A significant difference in overall survival wa
