Pressure drop of structured packing in pilot column and comparison to common correlations

Packed columns are widely used in the chemical industry such as absorption,stripping,distillation,and extraction in the production of *** chemicals,and *** loss and pressure drop correlations are of special interest when it comes to the hydrodynamic properties of a *** pressure loss across the column is of interest in the design phase when the size of the blower to drive the gas stream through the column has to be *** loading point and flooding point are also influenced by the pressure loss and the area of operation is determined from these *** work examines four different correlations on pressure *** correlations are(i)Ergun’s equation(1952),(ii)an improved version of Ergun’s equation by Stichlmair,Bravo,and Fair(1989),(iii)an equation developed by Billet and Schultes(1999),and(iv)an equation by Rocha,Bravo,and Fair(1993).The complexity of the correlations is increasing in the mentioned order,Ergun’s equation being the simplest *** study investigates if the more complicated correlations give better predictions to pressure drop in packed *** is determined by comparing the correlations to experimental data for pressure drop in a packed column with 8.2 m of structured packing using water as the liquid and atmospheric air as the *** experiments were carried out for determining the pressure drop in the column with liquid flows varying from 0 to 500 kg·h^(-1).At constant liquid flow,the gas flow was varied from approximately 10 to 70 kg·h^(-1).The pressure drop across the non-wetted column was best described by the correlation by Rocha et *** the pressure drop for liquid flows from 100 to 500 kg·h^(-1)was,in general,best described by Stichlmair’s *** an irrigated column,the highest deviation was a predicted pressure drop 69.6%lower than *** best prediction was 0.1%higher than the *** study shows,surprisingly,that for a system of water and atmospheric air,complica

Myocardial infarction patients' learning needs: Perceptions of patients, family members and nurses

Purpose: This descriptive study aimed to identify and compare patient with myocardial infarction,their family member,and cardiac nurse perceptions on the learning needs of patients with myocardial infarction in the acute,sub-acute,and post-acute ***: A total of 288 patients with myocardial infarction,145 family members,and 40 cardiac unit nurses were enrolled in this *** were collected by survey method using the Cardiac Patient Learning Need Inventory (CPLNI).Data analysis was done using descriptive statistical analysis and analysis of ***: The results showed that the learning needs of patients with myocardial infarction were high according to the perceptions of patients,patients' family members,and *** were differences in the priority of learning that the patient need in relation to the disease and healing ***: Patients,family members,and nurses have different perceptions regarding the learning needs of patients with myocardial *** create adequate intervention to meet patient's learning needs,there should be an accurate *** results of this study support the importance of patient-centered,individualized education and attention to learning priorities.

Effects of primary selective laser trabeculoplasty on anterior segment parameters

AIMTo investigate the effects of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) on the main numerical parameters of anterior segment with Pentacam rotating Scheimpflug camera in patients with ocular hypertension (OHT) and primary open angle glaucoma (POAG).METHODSPentacam measurements of 45 eyes of 25 (15 females and 10 males) patients (12 with OHT, 13 with POAG) before and after SLT were obtained. Measurements were taken before and 1 and 3mo after SLT. Pentacam parameters were compared between OHT and POAG patients, and age groups (60y and older, and younger than 60y).RESULTSThe mean age of the patients was 57.8±13.9 (range 20-77y). Twelve patients (48%) were younger than 60y, while 13 patients (52%) were 60y and older. Measurements of pre-SLT and post-SLT 1mo were significantly different for the parameters of central corneal thickness (CCT) and anterior chamber volume (ACV) (P0.05).CONCLUSIONSLT leads to significant increase in CCT and decrease in ACV at the 1st month of the procedure. Effects of SLT on these anterior segment parameters, especially for CCT that interferes IOP measurement, should be considered to ensure accurate clinical interpretation.

Exohedral van der Waals （vdW） hybrids comprising pristine carbon nanotubes （CNTs） and C60 fullerenes are expected to enable the engineering of carbonaceous materials with tunable physical and chemical properties due to the unperturbed sp2 hybridization of the comprising allotropes. In spite of theoretical predictions, experimental realization of exohedral non-covalent hybridization of unmodified C60 fullerenes and CNTs was not reported before, probably due to the relatively strong inter-fullerene and inter-tube interactions that drive the system toward phase separation and the formation of fullerene crystals and CNTs bundles. Here we describe a two-step process for preparation of C60-CNTs hybrids. The first step is based on solution-assembly of random, 3D-networks of individual, pristine CNTs followed by fast solvent-quenching. In the second step sublimated fullerenes are deposited onto the pre-assembled networks where structural defects serve as nucleation points for fullerite nanocrystals. Annealing at low temperature （80 ℃） results in re-organization of the C6o nanocrystals into nanometric layers, forming a CNT-C6o core-shell like cylindrical hybrids. Raman characterization and the observed high mobility of the fullerenes at the CNT surface support the assumption that the exohedral hybrids are of vdW type. The approach presented here offers a pathway for preparation of exohedral hybrids with controlled nano- morphology： CNTs-networks decorated by nanometric C60 crystals and CNTs-3D-networks coated by a shell of non-covalently bonded mono- or multi-layers of C60 molecules that may serve to shape the nanomorphology of the active layer in polymer-fullerene bulk-heterojunction solar cells.

In Silico Investigation of pH-Dependence of Prolactin and Human Growth Hormone Binding to Human Prolactin Receptor

Experimental data shows that the binding of human prolactin(hPRL)to human prolactin receptor(hPRLr-ECD)is strongly pH-dependent,while the binding of the same receptor to human growth hormone(hGH)is *** we carry in silico analysis of the molecular effects causing such a difference and reveal the role of individual amino *** is shown that the computational modeling correctly predicts experimentally determined pKa’s of histidine residues in an unbound state in the majority of the cases and the pH-dependence of the binding free *** analysis carried in conjunction with calculated pH-dependence of the binding revealed that the main reason for pH-dependence of the binding of hPRL-hPRLr-ECD is a number of salt-bridges across the interface of the complex,while no salt-bridges are formed in the ***,most of the salt-bridges involve histidine residues and this is the reason for the pH-dependence across a physiological range of *** analysis not only revealed the molecular mechanism of the pH-dependence of the hPRL-hPRLr-ECD,but also provided critical insight into the underlying physicchemical mechanism.

Challenges in Thermal Welding of Aluminium Alloys

Modern transport systems have the challenge to integrate more and more functions. This increases the weight of the structures. On the other hand demands and the legal regulations for emissions can only be fulfilled if the weight is reduced. This results in an ongoing increase of the usage of lightweight materials. Due to its low density and high strength Aluminium Alloys are the most used lightweight metals. However, some other physical properties hamper the processing of these alloys. The publication shows ways to overcome these challenges applying appropriate material preparation and handling in combination with specialized welding equipment for Aluminium welding. Application examples demonstrate the state of the art in Aluminium welding.

The investigation of fly ash based asphalt binders using atomic force microscope

Atomic Force Microscope （AFM） is a relatively new technique for investigation of construction materials. In this study AFM was used to investigate the interaction of asphalt binder with fly ash. Fly ash is a coal combustion byproduct of electric power utilities having pozzolanic properties and commonly used in Portland cement concrete. In this study, an investigation was made by using different types of fly ash with two types of asphalt binders such as PG 58-28 and PG 64-28. Asphalt microstructure is divided into four subgroups such as Saturates, Aromatics, Resins and Asphaltenes （SARA）. These four phases can be distinguished by the atomic force microscope. The interaction of these phases affected by introducing fly-ash was investigated and correlation with rheological properties was observed.

A recent paper by Huo et al.[1]reported a correlation between the entropy of mixing,ΔSmix(and the corresponding energy state)and the thermal stability and mechanical parameters,for three Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be metallic glasses(MGs)including a high-entropy metallic glass(HEMG).Namely,monotonic increases in the thermal stability and strength withΔSmixwere observed.
