Abducens nerve palsy during pegvisomant therapy in an acromegalic patient

Pegvisomant is a recent treatment modality of acromegaly, which is most effective in regulating IGF-1 levels. Tumor growth has been reported in 5% of the acromegaly cases treated with pegvisomant. Herein we report a case of acromegaly resistant to surgical treatment, radiotherapy and medical therapy with a somatostatin analogue and cabergolin. Due to presence of pituitary tumor with cavernous sinus invasion and unremitting disease activity pegvisomant therapy was initiated. She developed left abducens nerve palsy after pegvisomant treatment. The objective of this report is to emphasize the value of close follow-up of the acromely cases under pegvisomant therapy, especially if they have cavernous sinus infiltrating tumor. A 44-year-old woman with acromegaly presented with visual defect and diplopia on left lateral gaze. Her complaint developed 3 years after initiation of pegvisomant therapy. Her neurologic examination was consistent with mild abducens nerve palsy on left side. Other causes for abducens nerve palsy were excluded. Pegvisomant was discontinued upon patient request. Although sella MRI did not reveal a tumor growth, even minimal growth within cavernous sinus can cause cranial nerve involvement. Therefore close and careful follow-up of cavernous sinus infiltrating tumors after pegvisomant therapy is crucial to early recognition of complications.

Stretchable on-skin touchless screen sensor enabled by ionic hydrogel

Screen sensors are the most commonly used human-machine interfaces in our everyday life,which have been extensively applied in personal electronics like *** screen sensors are attracting growing interest due to their distinct advantages of high interaction freedom,comfortability,and hand ***,the material compositions of current touchless screen sensors are rigid and fragile,hardly meeting the needs of wearable and stretchable on-skin electronics ***,these touchless screen sensors are also restricted by high power consumption,limited gesture types of recognition,and the requirement of light ***,we report a stretchable on-skin touchless screen sensor(OTSS)enabled by an ionic hydrogel-based triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG).Compared with current touchless screen sensors,the OTSS is stretchable,self-powered,and competent to recognize diverse gestures by making use of charges naturally carried on fingers without the need of sufficient light *** on-skin noncontact screen operating system is further demonstrated on the basis of the OTSS,which could unlock a cellphone interface in touchless operation mode on the human *** work for the first time introduces the on-skin touchless concept to screen sensors and offers a direction to develop new-generation screen sensors for future cellphones and personal electronics.

Pricing strategies can have a huge impact on a company’s success. This paper focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of using artificial intelligence in dynamic pricing strategies. A good understanding of the possible benefits and challenges will help companies to understand the impact of their chosen pricing strategies. AI-driven Dynamic pricing has great opportunities to increase a firm’s profits. Firms can benefit from personalized pricing based on personal behavior and characteristics, as well as cost reduction by increasing efficiency and reducing the need to use manual work and automation. However, AI-driven dynamic rewarding can have a negative impact on customers’ perception of trust, fairness and transparency. Since price discrimination is used, ethical issues such as privacy and equity may arise. Understanding the businesses and customers that determine pricing strategy is so important that one cannot exist without the other. It will provide a comprehensive overview of the main advantages and disadvantages of AI-assisted dynamic pricing strategy. The main objective of this research is to uncover the most notable advantages and disadvantages of implementing AI-enabled dynamic pricing strategies. Future research can extend the understanding of algorithmic pricing through case studies. In this way, new, practical implications can be developed in the future. It is important to investigate how issues related to customers’ trust and feelings of unfairness can be mitigated, for example by price framing.

The aviation industry is a sector that is developing, changing and growing every day in terms of technological and legal framework. There are generally three factors that enable airlines to hold on to the market. These factors are safety, service quality and price. Airline companies can analyze the customers in the market with a focus on price and quality and develop a business model according to their expectations. For example, business class and economy class passenger expectations are different from each other, so the service and price to be offered to them will be different. However, all customers have one common expectation and that is safety. No matter how high quality the service is or how cheap the price is, no one wants to fly with an airline or plane that is not safe. From an airline company’s point of view, an accident or breakdown of one of the company’s aircraft can cause irreparable image loss and financial damage. If we look at past examples, we see that there are many airline companies or maintenance organizations that could not recover after an accident and went bankrupt. Safety is an indispensable factor. Therefore, there is a unit in the sector called the safety management system (SMS), which collects data by taking a proactive and reactive approach. The way and purpose of the safety management system is to take a proactive approach to recognize and prevent unsafe situations before they cause accidents or breakdowns, or to take a reactive approach to find the causes of accidents and breakdowns that have occurred as a result of certain factors and to take the necessary measures to prevent the same situations from happening again in the sector. The field of data mining, which is necessary to predict the future behavior of customers in the field of marketing, is an area that marketing also values. The lattice parameters,bulk modulus,rst derivative of the bulk modulus,electronic band structures,phonon dispersion curves and phonon density of states calculations for Li_(2)AlGa and Li_(2)AlIn Heusler alloys are performed and compared in this study using density functional theory within the generalized gradient *** lattice parameters display a good agreement with the *** electronic band structures of both Heusler alloys show that they are in semi-metallic *** dispersion curves and the phonon density of states graphs are also obtained in order to study the lattice dynamics of these Heusler *** is noticed that Li_(2)AlGa and Li_(2)AlIn Heusler alloys are dynamically stable in the ground state.

Antioxidant and ntiinflammatory efficacy of curcumin on lung tissue in rats with sepsis

OBJECTIVE:To detect antioxidant and antiinflammatory efficacy of Curcumin(Cur)on lung tissue in rats with ***:Totally 32 rats were divided into 4 groups;the rats in Group 1(control group)had abdominal incision under sterile conditions following anesthesia and the abdomen was *** incision was performed in the rats in Group 2(Cur group)under sterile conditions following anesthesia and the abdomen was *** was given to this group after dissolving within dimethylsulphoxide as 100 mg/kg through oral gavage and started for 3 d before surgical *** 3(CLP group)had caecal ligation and punction(CLP)under sterile conditions to create sepsis following anesthesia and the abdomen was *** was performed in the rats in Group 4(CLP+Cur group)under sterile conditions following anesthesia to create a sepsis model and the abdomen was *** was also given to this group after dissolving within dimethylsulphoxide as 100 mg/kg through oralgavageandstartedfor3 d before surgical *** the rats were sacrificed through blood aspiration from the heart under sterile conditions following anesthesia and lung tissues were removed after 24 h following the surgical *** tissue samples were homogenizated for biochemical analyses;and malondialdehyde(MDA),nitric okxide(NO),myeloperoxidase(MPO),superoxidedysmutase(SOD)nd catalase(CAT)were analyzed through spectrophotometric method,immunhistochemical i NOS staining was performed to assess the inflammation;and histopathological differences between the groups were ***:A statistically significant decrease was detected in the CLP+Cur group when compared with the CLP group of which Cur was not given in terms of MDA,MPO and NO levels(P<0.05)whereas a statistically significant elevation was fpund in the CLP+Cur group when compared with the CLP group in terms of SOD and CAT levels(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:The study outcomes revealed that supplementation of Cur presents an antioxidan

I was honored to be asked to write an editorial on ＇cytoreductive surgery using peritonectomy and visceral resections for peritoneal surface malignancy＇（1） written by Paul H. Sugarbaker. A strategic approach using peritonectomy and cytoreductive surgery to treat peritoneal cancers has gradually evolved over the past 30 years that has emanated by our impressive leader Paul H. Sugarbaker. He has brought many surgeons together from all over the world for these procedures. His skill made so many of us enthused by peritonectomy procedures and cytoreductive surgery with long operation time, a major postoperative morbidity and high mortality risk. However, we are all persisted with these procedures because of sometimes moribund patients with peritoneal cancers may cure with peritonectomy procedures and cytoreductive surgery.

New treatment modalities in Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is still a major public health challenge without an effective treatment to prevent or stop it. Routinely used acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and memantine seem to slow disease progression only to a limited extend. Therefore, many investigations on new drugs and other treatment modalities are ongoing in close association with increasing knowledge of the pathophysiology of the disease. Here, we review the studies about the new treatment modalities in AD with a classification based on their main targets, specifically pathologic structures of the disease, amyloid and tau, neural network dysfunction with special interest to the regulation of gamma oscillations, and attempts for the restoration of neural tissue via regenerative medicine. Additionally, we describe the evolving modalities related to gut microbiota, modulation, microglial function, and glucose metabolism.

Diffuse Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry of BN Films Deposited on Steels by Remote Microwave Plasma CVD from Borazine

The diffuse reflectance Fourier trmisfonn infrared spectra of the boron nitride(BN)films deposited on steels by remote microwave plasma chemical vapour deposition(CVD)from borazine with nitrogen,hydrogen and argon were investigated in the wavenumber range of 400-4000 cm^(-1).It was found that the cubic BN for million depends on production of the intermediate species of cyclo triborazane((BH2NH2)3)and its *** structuml bonds of cydotriborazane are similar to that of cubic *** conditions for deposited BN films were found to be the bora,zine-nitrogen mixture at the substrate *** of 550℃.The BN films were n mixture of crystalline cubic BN accounting for the major content and hexagonal BN with relatively low hydrogen content.

Association of apolipoprotein E-219T>G promoter polymorphism with primary open angle glaucoma in Turkish population

AIM:To investigate the association between apolipoprotein E(APOE)-219 T>G promoter polymorphism and primary open angle glaucoma(POAG).METHODS:Patients and healthy subjects were genotyped with polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP).Genotype/allele frequencies were compared between 122 healthy subjects and in 75 POAG patients using Chi-square ***:Although the frequency of APOE-219 GG genotype was higher in POAG group(13.3%)than in control group(6.6%),this finding was not statistically significant(P=0.09).In glaucoma patients carrying GG genotype,mean linear C/D ratio was higher and progression was more compared to glaucoma patients with GT ***:APOE-219 T>G polymorphism does not seem to be a risk factor for the presence of glaucoma,but might play a role in deterioration of the disease,which needs further evaluation.
