This paper reports on the current state of an ongoing research project which is aimed at implementing intelligent models for hardly predictable hazard scenarios identification in construction sites. As any programmatic actions cannot deal with the unpredictable nature of many risk dynamics, an attempt to improve the current approach for safety management in the construction industry will be presented in this paper. To this aim, the features offered by Bayesian networks have been exploited. The present research has led to the definition of a probabilistic model using elicitation techniques from subjective knowledge. This model, which might be meant as a reliable knowledge map about accident dynamics, showed that a relevant part of occurrences fall in the "hardly predictable hazards" category, which cannot be warded off by programmatic safety measures. Hence, more effort turned out to be needed in order to manage those hardly predictable hazardous scenarios. Consequently, further developments of this research project will focus on a real time monitoring system for the identification of unpredictable hazardous events in construction.

1. Introduction The tegmental wall of the tympanic cavity is a thin plate of the temporal bone that separates the middle cranial fossa(MCF) from the ear. This anatomical region consists of two areas: an anterior one, comprised of the tegmen tympani(To′th et al., 2007), and a posterior one, formed by the tegmen antri and the tegmen mastoideum(Makki et al., 2011). In some patients, the tegmental region of the temporal bone can be interrupted, causing a tegmen defect(TD). A TD is sometimes associated with a meningoencephalic herniation(MEH), in which brain tissue herniates through a TD.

The United Nations(UN)’s call for a decade of“ecosystem restoration”was prompted by the need to address the extensive impact of anthropogenic activities on natural *** ecosystem restoration is increasingly necessary due to increasing habitat degredation in deep waters(>200 m depth).At these depths,which are far beyond those accessible by divers,only established and emerging robotic platforms such as remotely operated vehicles(ROVs),autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs),landers,and crawlers can operate through manipulators and multiparametric sensor arrays(e.g.,optoacoustic imaging,omics,and environmental probes).The use of advanced technologies for deep-sea ecosystem restoration can provide:①high-resolution three-dimensional(3D)imaging and acoustic mapping of substrates and key taxa,②physical manipulation of substrates and key taxa,③real-time supervision of remote operations and long-term ecological monitoring,and④the potential to work ***,we describe how robotic platforms with in situ manipulation capabilities and payloads of innovative sensors could autonomously conduct active restoration and monitoring across large spatial *** expect that these devices will be particularly useful in deep-sea habitats,such as①reef-building cold-water corals,②soft-bottom bamboo corals,and③soft-bottom fishery resources that have already been damaged by offshore industries(i.e.,fishing and oil/gas).

Compositional Features of Fine Sediments Involved in the Montescaglioso Landslide(Southern Italy)

This paper presents the multidisciplinary study of the southern Italy Plio-Pleistocene sediments involved in the large Montescaglioso *** principal aim of the work is to assess the compositional characters(i.e.,grain-size,mineralogy,petrography and geochemistry)and some rheological features(Atterberg’s limits,plasticity index and activity)of these sediments to enrich our knowledge about the Montescaglioso fine sediments and correlation among the lithological properties *** types of sediments,from a deep geognostic borehole and from the surrounding landslide area,were collected and *** significant compositional differences have been found between the core and landslide area ***,some changes have been detected in sediments along the ***,the-15 to-20 m lithostratigraphic level hosts the highest percentages of phyllosilicates and clay fraction(CF),commonly considered as possible hazard factors for the landslide *** more,in the studied core sediments,the CF contents correlate with the Atterberg’s liquid and plastic limits and a CF value of about 38%was suggested as threshold value for the changing of index properties of *** factors,such as the weathering degree and clay mineral type,do not show significant correlations with the rheological properties of sediments here studied.

In the last two decades major improvements have been reached in the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer(CRC)and,besides chemotherapy,an ampler choice of therapeutic approaches is now available,including targeted and *** that,CRC remains a“big killer”mainly due to the development of resistance to therapies,especially when the disease is diagnosed after it is already *** the same time,our knowledge of the mechanisms underlying resistance has been rapidly expanding which allows the development of novel therapeutic options in order to overcome *** far as resistance to chemotherapy is concerned,several contributors have been identified such as:intake/efflux systems upregulation;alterations in the DNA damage response,due to defect in the DNA checkpoint and repair systems;dysregulation of the expression of apoptotic/anti-apoptotic members of the BCL2 family;overexpression of oncogenic kinases;the presence of cancer stem cells;and the composition of the tumoral microenvironment and that of the gut ***,several mechanisms are also involved in the resistance to targeted and/or *** example,overexpression and/or hyperactivation and/or amplification of oncogenic kinases can sustain resistance to targeted therapy whereas the composition of the gut microbiota,as well as that of the tumoral niche,and defects in DNA repair systems are crucial for determining the response to *** this review we will make an overview of the main resistance mechanisms identified so far and of the new therapeutic approaches to overcome it.

Photocatalytic activity of Eu-doped ZnO prepared by supercritical antisolvent precipitation route:When defects become virtues

The aim of this work is to determine the structural and optical properties of Eu-doped ZnO powders prepared by supercritical antisolvent precipitation route(SAS)and to correlate the physico-chemical features with the photocatalytic activity under UV *** and EPR spectroscopy highlight the introduction of novel defects(mainly singly and doubly ionized oxygen vacancies,and oxygen interstitials)on the Eu-doped ZnO samples,which confer higher hydrophilicity to the doped samples with respect to bare ZnO,as evidenced by FT-IR ***,photoluminescence spectra show that the presence of Eu^(3+) totally quenches the visible light emission typical of bare ZnO,which mainly results from the recombination of photogenerated holes at defective *** prepared samples were tested both for the photocatalytic degradation of crystal violet dye(CV)and for the partial oxidation of ferulic acid under UV *** photocatalytic activity results evidence of a higher ability of Eu-doped photocatalysts to degrade CV and ferulic acid,while higher selectivity values towards vanillin are obtained in the presence of bare *** higher activity of Eu-doped ZnO photocatalysts is linked to the stabilization of photogenerated holes and to their higher hydrophilicity,both brought by the generation of defective sites induced by the presence of Eu^(3+) ions within the ZnO lattice.

Electrochemotherapy using thin-needle electrode improves recovery in feline nasal planum squamous cell carcinoma-a translational model

Aim:Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma(cSCC)is a common disease in patients exposed to UV-light and human ***,a well-established treatment modality with minimum side effects in human and veterinary medicine,circumvents chemoresistance to bleomycin by the use of electric ***,patients are sensitive to the trauma produced by the insertion of the needles that lengthen recovery times,particularly cats with nasal planum *** address this matter,we developed thin-needles ***:Thin-needles electrodes developed using computer simulations and plant tissue models were compared to standard electrodes.A prospective non-randomized study recruiting 52 feline patients with nasal planum cSCC was *** response,anorexia,and overall survival were ***:Computer simulations and plant model experiments showed satisfactory results with both *** patients treated with the thin-needle electrode obtained similar local response rates compared to the standard group,OR 97.3%vs.80%,respectively(P<0.067).Most patients in the thin-needle group resumed eating in less than 48 h,as the anorexia was significantly lower(P<0.0001).Using the standard electrode,most patients took 3 to 5 days to resume normal *** electric current circulating in the standard electrode was 44% higher,contributing to a longer duration of anorexia due to tissue *** overall survival in both groups was ***:Electrochemotherapy using thin-needle electrodes provides equivalent local response rates and overall survival compared with standard electrodes but significantly reduced return to appetite after the *** results may be useful in the development of new electrodes for human patients.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis（ALS） is the most common degenerative disease of the motor neuron system. Over the last years, a growing interest was aimed to discovery new innovative and safer therapeutic approaches in the ALS treatment. In this context, the bioactive compounds of Cannabis sativa have shown antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in preclinical models of central nervous system disease. However, most of the studies proving the ability of cannabinoids in delay disease progression and prolong survival in ALS were performed in animal model, whereas the few clinical trials that investigated cannabinoids-based medicines were focused only on the alleviation of ALS-related symptoms, not on the control of disease progression. The aim of this report was to provide a short but important overview of evidences that are useful to better characterize the efficacy as well as the molecular pathways modulated by cannabinoids.
