Active lifestyle and qualitative and quantitative diets are the best way to lose weight. In our study we have assessed the effectiveness and tolerability of a soluble powder rich in fibers and at low glycemic index and used, with a portion of fresh fruit, as replacement meal (for a total calorie intake ranging from a minimum of about 130 kcal to a maximum of 260 kcal) in 52 overweight/obese subjects of the outpatient clinic of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) of Rome already in treatment with a low-fat low-carbohydrates qualitative diet. The study was a parallel, prospective trial of two randomized sample groups, “intervention” (26 subjects) and “control” (26 subjects). After 8 weeks, the treatment based on the replacement meal has improved the results obtained through the qualitative diet alone above all in the overweight subjects: 11/16, versus only 2/16 in the control group, became ranged within normal weight. On the contrary, the majority of obese subjects didn’t change their BMI classification suggesting that, in case of obesity, a controlled quantitative correction with weighing food portions could be a better strategy than low-calorie replacement meal.

The effect of biodeteriogenic living organisms on historical and archeological sites is a well-known problem affecting the world’s cultural heritage. Indeed, the growth inside the bricks of shrubs and herbs roots can cause breakage, collapse and, detachment of materials. The knowledge of the spontaneous vascular flora present on monuments is essential for protection and safeguarding of cultural heritage. In this paper, we identify and describe biodeteriogenic vascular flora of three historical Calabrian (Southern Italy) churches, showing the relationship between plant biodiversity and exposure and building material of churches. The species present on the wall and in perimeter for each church were sampled noting substrate type, surface inclination (vertical or horizontal) and exposure. The total number of plant species recorded was 27. Hemicryptophytes (41%) prevail over the other biological forms and the most represented families are that of the Asteraceae. Parietaria judaica is the only species present in all three sites. Substrate type, climatic condition and surface inclination affect the floristic composition. Sixteen out of 27 species grow on vertical surfaces, all Geophythes and Chamaephytes grow on horizontal surfaces, while Therophytes were rather on vertical surfaces. A significant difference was found in the Hazard Index values in the three churches. Only one site, presents a high average value of Hazard Index, due to the simultaneous presence of Ailanthus altissima, Ficus carica, Rubus ulmifolius and Sambucus nigra. The data collected indicate that the flora growing on wall of three Calabrian churches partially reflects the floristic context in which they are located. The diversity of the vegetational spectrum is remarkable, most of the plants are ruderal herbaceous, many weeds and invasive, and for the most part typical of the Mediterranean environment. The present study aims at verifying whether participation in a physical activity programme has positive effects on the daily life autonomy and vitality of elderly people living in residential care facilities by the mediation of their physical well- being. Fifty-one institutionalised individuals took part in the study. The control group included 11 people (84.26, ± 7.4 years), whereas the experimental group was made up of 40 people (85 ± 6.6 years). The experimental group was involved in a physical activity programme twice a week. The 36-Item Short Form Health Survey Questionnaire, the Activities of Daily Living Scale, and the Tinetti Test were administered to the participants. The linear regression method as well as Sobel’s formula were used for the analysis. The results show that participation in a physical activity programme has positive effects on autonomy in bathing and on the participants’ sense of vitality due to the mediation of physical functioning. These results confirm the importance of physical activity for the elderly populations living in residential care facilities.

作为一名罗马尼亚留学生,我在学习的过程中曾一度困扰于汉语定语规则的严格与复杂,如多项定语语序规律、汉语定语标记“的”的隐现规律以及汉罗定语不同的使用规则等,这些都是罗马尼亚学生学习汉语定语的难点,因此本文要就罗马尼亚汉语学习者习得定语的情况展开研究,以提高罗马尼亚汉语学者的学习效果。本文共分为四章,具体内容如下:第一章为绪论,介绍了本文的研究目的、研究意义及研究方法,并从汉语定语本体研究及汉语定语习得研究两个方面对相关研究做了述评。第二章从定语类型、定语与中心语的语义关系、多项定语语序及定语标记隐现规律四个方面对汉罗定语进行了比较与分析,发现了汉罗定语一一对应、不完全对应及不对应的部分。第三章首先以问卷调查的形式对罗马尼亚汉语学习者学习和使用定语的难点进行了调查,然后以调查数据为依据,归纳、总结、描写了偏误类型,发现偏误率最高的是多项定语语序的使用。第四章根据前文发现的偏误类型深入挖掘偏误原因,并对此进行了较为全面的分析,主要归纳出母语负迁移、目的语知识泛化及汉语语法的复杂性三种偏误原因。之后,根据实际情况提出了具有针对性及可行性的解决建议,分别为:加强汉罗定语对比、培养目的语语感以及课堂上精讲多练、增加有意义的练习。

AIM:To compare the site,age and gender of cases of colorectal cancer(CRC) and polyps in a single referral center in Rome,Italy,during two ***:CRC data were collected from surgery/pathology registers,and polyp data from colonoscopy *** who met the criteria for familial adenomatous polyposis,hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease were excluded from the *** of patients between the two groups(cancers and polyps) was carefully ***χ 2 statistical test and a regression analysis were ***:Data from a total of 768 patients(352 and 416 patients,respectively,in periods A and B) who underwent surgery for cancer were *** the same time periods,a total of 1693 polyps were analyzed from 978 patients with complete colonoscopies(428 polyps from 273 patients during period A and 1265 polyps from 705 patients during period B).A proximal shift in cancer occurred during the latter years for both sexes,but particularly in *** cancer increased > 3-fold in period B compared to period A in males [odds ratio(OR) 3.31,95%CI:2.00-5.47;P < 0.0001).A similar proximal shift was observed for polyps,particularly in males(OR 1.87,95%CI:1.23-2.87;P < 0.0038),but also in females(OR 1.62,95%CI:0.96-2.73;P < 0.07).CONCLUSION:The prevalence of proximal proliferative colonic lesions seems to have increased over the last decade,particularly in males.

CT Findings in Patients Affected by H1N1 Influenza Virus

Objectives: To evaluate the primary lesions, the complications and the evolution of disease in patients affected by H1N1 viral infection. Materials and Methods: 24 Patients affected by H1N1 infection, diagnosed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) on throat swabs, underwent CT examination. Seven patients were hospitalized in intensive care unit (ICU). In five patients the evolution of disease was monitored. The following features were evaluated: primary lesions significant for viral infection, their possible complications and the evolution of disease in controlled patients. Results: Primary lesions variously associated with each other were found in 22 out of 24 patients: ground glass opacities (19/24, 79.2%), interstitial thickening (13/24, 54.2%), centrilobular nodules (3/24, 12.5%) and consolidation (8/24, 33.3%). The following complications were observed: 3 consolidations with air bronchogram, 9 pleural effusions, 7 ARDS and 1 barotrauma. In the 5 patients who underwent follow-up (including 3 admitted to ICU), complete resolution was demonstrated in 4 cases and focal fibrotic evolution in one case. 3 ICU patients affected by ARDS died. Conclusions: In case of H1N1 virus infection. CT is an important tool for staging the disease, recognize complications and to study disease

Myelofibrosis (MF) represents the major long-term complication of essential thrombocythemia (ET). There is evidence that leukocytosis at diagnosis is associated with poorer survival in patients with ET. In this study, we retrospectively evaluated 143 patients with ET, diagnosed in agreement with WHO criteria, followed in a single centre over >10 years. Nine of them transformed into MF (post-essential thrombocythemia-myelofibrosis PET-MF). We compared PET-MF data at diagnosis with that of the remaining 134 patients (ET-1) and with a selected sub-group of ET-1 (ET-2, 19 pats) sex, age and follow-up duration matched to PET-MF. The PET-MF evolution rate was 4.6 per 1000 person-years;white blood cells count (WBC) count, haemoglobin levels and hematocrit were higher in PET-MF than in ET-1 (P = 0.01) while only WBC was higher than in ET-2 (P = 0.01). With multivariate analysis, only WBC count retained its signifi-cance. Our study highlights the prognostic relevance of leukocytosis on myelofibrotic transformation of ET.

AIM To evaluate the impact of the Glu167Lys(E167K) transmembrane 6 superfamily member 2(TM6SF2) variant on the biochemical and morphologic expression of liver lesions in human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)/hepatitis C virus(HCV) co-infected *** The study comprised 167 consecutive patients with HIV/HCV coinfection and biopsy-proven chronic hepatitis. A pathologist graded liver fibrosis and necroinflammation using the Ishak scoring system, and steatosis using Kleiner's scoring system. Patients were genotyped for TM6SF2 E167K(rs58542926) by real-time Polymerase chain reaction. The 167 patients, 35 therapy-naive and 132 receiving ART, were prevalently males(73.6%), the median age was 40.7 years and the immunological condition good(median CD4+ cells/mm3 = 505.5).RESULTS The 17 patients with the TM6SF2 E167 K variant, compared with the 150 with TM6SF2-E/E, showed higher AST(P = 0.02) and alanine aminotransferase(P = 0.02) and higher fibrosis score(3.1 ± 2.0 vs 2.3 ± 1.5, P = 0.05). In a multivariate analysis, TM6SF2 E167 K was independently associated with severe fibrosis. The same analysis showed that HCV-genotype 3, present in 42.2% of patients was an independent predictor of severe steatosis. The association of TM6SF2 E167 K with severe steatosis, absent for the whole group of 167 patients, was re-evaluated separately for HCVgenotype 3 and non-3 patients: No factor was independently associated with severe steatosis in the HCV-genotype-3 subgroup, whereas an independent association was observed between severe steatosis and TM6SF2 E167 K in non-3 HCV genotypes. No association between the TM6SF2 E167 K variant and severe liver necroinflammation was *** In HIV/HCV coinfection the TM6SF2 E167 K variant is an independent predictor of severe fibrosis, but appears to be independently associated with severe steatosis only for patients with a non-3 HCV genotype.

Sand Dune Species Distribution and Size Variations in Two Areas Inside a Natural Protected Area Subjected to Different Human Disturbance

Sand dune species were analyzed across two areas included in the “Roman Coastal State Nature Reserve” (Italy): Ostia (O) and Marina di Palidoro (P). Significant variations in species distribution, dry mass and size over the gradient from the water-edge toward the inland between O and P were observed. Species colonize O, on an average, at 79 m from the water-edge extended along the gradient toward the inland over a length of 26 m. PD is 40.8 ± 9.9 plants.m-2. Ononis variegata and Elymus farctus have the highest PD (15.4 ± 1.3 plants.m-2), followed by Silene colorata and Sporobulus pungens (4.3 ± 3.9 plants.m-2), by Cakile maritima, Echinophora spinosa, Eryngium maritimum, Ammophila arenaria, Anthemis maritima, Cyperus capitatus, Medicago marina and Calystegia soldanella (.m-2), with C. soldanella having the lowest PD (0.02 plants.m-2). On an average, in P, the species colonize the dune at 17 m from the water-edge for a length of 46 m toward the inland, PD is on an average 21.5 ± 16.1 plants.m-2.
