The construction and performance characteristics of new sensitive and selective in situ modified screen printed （ISPE） and carbon paste （ICPE） electrodes for determination of naphazoline hydrochloride （NPZ-HC1） have been developed. The electrodes under investigation show potentiometric response for NPZ-HC1 in the concentration range from 7.0 x 10-7 to 1.0 x 10-2 M at 25 ~C and the electrode response is independent of pH in the range of 3.1-7.9. These sensors have slope values of 59.7＋0.6 and 59.2＋0.2 mV decade-l with detection limit values of 5.6 ~ 10-7 and 5.9 x 10-7 M NPZ- HC1 using ISPE and ICPE, respectively. These electrodes show fast response time of 4-7 s and 5-8 s and exhibits lifetimes of 28 and 30 days for ISPE and ICPE, respectively. Selectivity for NPZ-HC1 with respect to a number of interfering materials was also investigated. It was found that there is no interference from the investigated inorganic cations, anions, sugars and other pharmaceutical excipients. The proposed sensors were applied for the determination of NPZ-HC1 in pharmaceutical formulation using the direct potentiometric method. It showed a mean average recovery of 100.2% and 102.6% for ISPE and ICPE, respectively. The obtained results using the proposed sensors were in good agreement with those obtained using the official method. The proposed sensors show significantly high selectivity, response time, accuracy, precision, limit of detection （LOD）and limit of quantification （LOQ） compared with other proposed methods.

Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a common pediatric malignant neoplasia, showed high relapse rate after induction therapy. Some miRNAs have been shown to regulate normal hematopoiesis and their disruption could contribute to leukemogenesis: Recently, specific miRNA, including miR-181a, was shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of ALL, serving as a biomarker for diagnosis and relapse of ALL. Aim of the Study: To evaluate miR-181a expression level as a predictive marker for children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Patients and Methods: 40 pediatric ALL patients were included in this study. miR-181a expression was assessed at diagnosis before start of treatment. Samples were either peripheral blood or bone marrow aspirate sample. Patients were evaluated clinically and laboratory after the induction therapy.

Aim:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the most common cancers in the *** left untreated,liver cancer has a poor prognosis with more than 90%of patients dying of the disease within 5 years of *** aim of this study is to assess the value of combined radiofrequency ablation(RFA),followed by trans-arterial chemoembolization(TACE)in the management of ***:Fifty HCC patients with chronic liver disease were categorized into two groups according to the modality of locoregional treatment:25 HCC patients treated with RFA followed by TACE within 5 days and 25 HCC patients treated with TACE ***:Complete response was achieved in 100%and 84%of the HCC patients after 1 month from combined RFA-TACE therapy and TACE only *** rate of objective response after 7 months was 84%and 44%in the RFA-TACE and TACE groups *** year disease free survival rate was 56%and 24%in RFA-TACE and TACE groups respectively,and overall survival rate was 88%in the RFA-TACE group and 80%in the TACE only ***:Combined RFA-TACE appears to be an effective modality and superior to TACE only for the treatment of HCC.

Comparison of inhibitory effect between DL-tryptophan and lactoferrin on Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm formation in wound dressing

Objective: To compare the inhibitory effect between DL-tryptophan and bovine lactoferrin on biofilm formed by isolated Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains. Methods: The study was carried out on 40 patients suffering from surgical site infection. Wound pus was collected using sterile swabs after isolation, and identified by common bacteriological methods. Isolated Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were grown on biofilm enhancing materials, and then the inhibitory effects of different concentrations of DL-tryptophan and lactoferrin were tested using scanning electron microscopy and microtitre plate methods. Results: There was no significant difference in the inhibitory effect between DL-tryptophan and lactoferrin at 0.5 mg/mL. While in concentration of 1 mg/mL and 2 mg/mL, tryptophan showed more significant inhibitory effect than lactoferrin. Conclusions: Both DL-tryptophan and bovine lactoferrin have inhibitory effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm formation in a dose dependent manner, and the inhibitory effect of DL-tryptophan is stronger.

Structural and dielectric properties of prepared PbS and PbTe nanomaterials

In this work, PbS and PbTe nanomaterials with various morphologies were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The structural properties were investigated by using X-ray diffraction(XRD) and corresponding scanning electron microscopy together with their EDX analysis. Both the PbS and PbTe nanomaterials possess good polycrystalline structure. The crystallite size, determined from the XRD data, of PbS is 5 nm whereas the corresponding value of PbTe is 2.69 nm. SEM micrographs reveal that the prepared PbS nanomaterial has starshaped structures, micro-flowers, some cubes, and semi-dendrites, whereas PbTe has semi-flower structures. Additionally, the dielectric properties have been studied in a broad frequency range from 0.1 Hz up to 1 MHz at temperatures from 298-423 K. The real and imaginary parts of the complex dielectric constant ε' and ε" of PbTe are comparatively higher than those of PbS. Moreover, the dielectric data were analyzed on the basis of the electric modulus.

Using random-parameter and fixed-parameter ordered models to explore temporal stability in factors affecting drivers' injury severity in single-vehicle collisions

Understanding the temporal stability in the factors influencing drivers' injury severity in single-vehicle collisions would help evaluating the effectiveness of implementing different safety treatments so that researchers could understand whether any safety improvements,observed after applying a certain safety treatment, are attributed to the specific treatment or simply attributed to the temporal instability of the factors being addressed. This study investigates the temporal stability of the factors affecting drivers' injury severity in singlevehicle collisions involving light-duty vehicles. The study is based on utilizing ordinal regression modeling to analyze the severity of drivers' injuries in all police-reported lightduty single-vehicle collisions that occurred in North Carolina from January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2013. A separate regression model was estimated for each year so that statistical significance of each risk factor may be compared over the years. The study also estimated random-parameter(mixed) ordered logit models to explore the heterogeneity in data. The most significant factor that was found to increase the severity of drivers' injuries in light-duty single-vehicle collisions is driving under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs. Other significant factors, in decreasing order in terms of their significance, include driving on a highway curve, exceeding speed limit, lighting conditions, the age of the driver, and the age of the vehicle. In contrast, there were six factors that were found to be significant in only some years and not in all years. These six temporally unstable factors include the use of seatbelt, driver's gender, rural highways, undivided highways, the type of the light-duty vehicle, and weather and road surface conditions. These same factors were found by other previous research studies to be significant and stable predictors of drivers' injury severity in single-vehicle collisions.

Background: Radiotherapy (RT) techniques after Conservative Breast Surgery (CBS) vary. Three Dimension (3D) planning allows for better plan optimization compared to 2 Dimension (2D) plans and also allowing for creating Dose Volume Histograms (DVHs) for both Planning Target Volume (PTV) and Organs at Risk (OAR). Patients and Methods: Twenty consecutive patients with CBS planned for whole breast and supraclavicular (SCV) RT at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Egypt between January and June 2016 were included in this study. All patients were planned clinically in 2D fashion with no more than 2 cm of ipsilateral lung allowed in the tangential fields “Limited 2D” (Limit-2D) then Target and OAR volumes were drawn according to the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) guidelines and 3D plans and a central slice PTV-based 2D plan, “Modified 2D” (Mod-2D), were performed in the same Computerized Tomography (CT) slices for each patient. Mono-Iso-Centeric technique (MIT) was used in 3D plans. DVH parameters were used to compare the three plans. Results: In 3D plans, compared to Limit-2D, coverage improved for the intact breast (V95% = 95% versus (Vs) 69%, p = 0.036) and SCVPTV (V90% = 90% Vs 65%, p = 0.01). The breast and SCV V 107%, V112% and Dmax were better with 3D plan however not statistical significant (NS). Junctional hot spots were 120% and 107% in the Limit-2D and 3D plans respectively (p = 0.04). The dose to the heart, mean (333 Vs 491 cGy), V10 (5% Vs 10%) and V20 (3% Vs 7%), Ipsilateral lung V20 (19% Vs 26%), and contra lateral breast D-max (205 Vs 462 cGy) were higher in 3D plans however NS, and the dose to the cord was the same. Comparison between 3D and Mod-2D showed better OAR sparing with 3D with mean heart dose (491 cGy Vs 782 cGy, p = 0.025) and Ipsilateral lung V20 (26% Vs 32%, p = 0.07% with statistically comparable target coverage. Diabetes mellitus(DM)could negatively affect patients’health via inducing a lot of serious functional hazards in many tissues’cells at molecular ***,many scientists had proposed stem cell therapy being an appropriate alternative treatment protocol for numerous health threatening issues including ***,the current study was designed to investigate the antioxidant potentiality of two MSCs types in alleviating tissues’oxidative stress dramatic elevation resulting as a consequence of Type 1 DM *** our 4 weeks study,animals were divided into four groups:control group,STZ-diabetic group(D),D+AD-MSCs group and D+BM-MSCs *** reported that diabetic rats treated with either AD-MSCs or BM-MSCs exhibited a marvelous body tissues(Pancreas,Liver and Kidney)enhancing capabilities in attenuating the oxidative stress status;as evidenced by XO,ROS,and MDA levels down-regulation;with a general concomitant elevation in the antioxidants’content;evidenced by many enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants up-regulation;relative to the diabetic untreated ***,comparing both treatments with each other and to control group,most of the measured parameters were reverted back to near normal levels after AD-MSCs injection;which clearly point out their stunning health benefits and superiority as anti-diabetic agent in overcoming different tissues’complications;owing to their marked cytoprotective and regenerative potentialities.

Brown rot or bacterial wilt of potato caused by Ralstonia solanacearum, is an economically important disease. Potato, cv. Nicola, was found to be relatively highly resistant to the infection with R. solanacearum and showed 15.12% wilt disease index, meantime, cv. Kara showed intermediate resistance with 37.40% disease index while, cv. Spunta was susceptible and showed 80.33% disease index. The role of defense-related enzymes in imparting resistance in potato against R. solanacearum was investigated by quantifying enzymes activity and gene expression of three defense- related enzymes, peroxidase, polyphenol oxidase and catalase. Peroxidase showed maximum activity 0.488 min-1·g-1 early at 12 h after pathogen inoculation in the cv. Nicola, whereas in susceptible cultivar Spunta showed lower activity of maximum 0.226 min-1·g-1 later at 48 h after inoculation. While, the moderately resistant cultivar Kara showed intermediate activity for the peak and its time. Meanwhile, polyphenol oxidase showed similar trends to that of peroxidase. On the contrary, catalase showed the highest activity values in the susceptible, cv. Spunta, while, in relatively highly resistant (cv. Nicola) and the moderately resistant (cv. Kara) showed lower values of activity and up to 96 h after inoculation. Meanwhile, gene expression of related enzymes the RT-PCR was used. At zero time, the relatively highly resistant potato cultivar, Nicola, showed the highest values of gene expression for both Peroxidase (POD) and Poly Phenol Oxidase (PPO). While, the susceptible potato cultivar, Spunta showed the lowest values. On the contrary, Catalase (CAT) gene expression was the highest in the susceptible, cv. Spunta, and was the lowest in the relatively highly resistant, cv. Nicola, while, was of intermediate values in the intermediate resistance, cv. Kara. Results show that peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activities can be used as biochemical markers
