Effect of supplementing layer hen diet with phytogenic feed additives on laying performance, egg quality, egg lipid peroxidation and blood biochemical constituents

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementing laying hen diet with phytogenic additives on laying performance, egg quality, blood constituents and egg lipid peroxidation. Two hundred Lohmann Brown Lite laying hens were randomly allotted to 4 dietary treatments: control(without phytogenic additive), fennel seeds(5 g/kg), black cumin seeds(5 g/kg) and hot red pepper(5 g/kg).Each of the 4 diets was fed to 5 replicates of 10 hens for 8 weeks. No significant differences were observed in body weight or feed intake between the groups. Dietary inclusion of fennel followed by red pepper improved(P < 0.05) egg weight, egg production, egg mass and feed conversion ratio compared with control. Higher yolk shape index, shell and albumen weight percentages and Haugh unit(P < 0.05)were recorded in the fennel supplemented group compared with control. The egg yolk color score increased by the addition of fennel or hot red pepper in laying hen diets compared with control. The inclusion of black cumin or hot red pepper decreased serum and egg yolk cholesterol and malondialdehyde concentrations(P < 0.05) compared with control. Serum aspartate aminotransferase concentration was lower in black cumin group(P < 0.05) than in other treatments. In conclusion, the best laying performance and egg quality were obtained by dietary inclusion of fennel, followed by hot red pepper and black cumin. Dietary supplementation of black cumin or red pepper may lead to the development of low-cholesterol concentration and better antioxidant capacity of eggs.

AIM： To identify the trend, possible risk factors and any pattern change of hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） in Egypt over a decade. METHODS： All HCC patients attending Cairo Liver Center between January 1993 and December 2002, were enrolled in the study. Diagnosis of HCC was based on histopathological examination and/or detection of hepatic focal lesions by two imaging techniques plus α-fetoprotein level above 200 ng/mL. The duration of the study was divided into two periods of 5 years each; period Ⅰ （1993-1997） and period Ⅱ （1998-2002）. Trend, demographic features of patients （age, gender, and residence）, risk factors （HBsAg, HCV-Ab, schistosomiasis and others） and pattern of the focal lesions were compared between the two periods. Logistic regression model was fitted to calculate the adjusted odds ratios for the potential risk factors. The population attributable risk percentage was calculated to estimate the proportion of HCC attributed to hepatitis B and C viral infections. RESULTS： Over a decade, 1 328 HCC patients out of 22 450 chronic liver disease （CLD） patients were diagnosed with an overall proportion of 5.9%. The annual proportion of HCC showed a significant rising trend from 4.0% in 1993 to 7.2% in 2002 （P = 0.000）. A significant increase in male proportion from 82.5% to 87.6% （P = 0.009）; M/F from 5：1 to 7：1 and a slight increase of the predominant age group （40-59 years） from 62.6% to 66.8% （P = 0.387）in periods Ⅰ and Ⅱ respectively, reflecting a shift to younger age group. In the bivariate analysis, HCC was significantly higher in rural residents, patients with history of schistosomiasis and/or blood transfusion. Yet, after adjustment, these variables did not have a significant risk for development of HCC. There was a significant decline of HBsAg from 38.6% to 20.5% （P = 0.000）, and a slight increase of HCV-Ab from 85.6% to 87.9% in periods I and II respectively. Populus alba is a large woody deciduous *** plant has been introduced to shooting,then multiplication of rooting on Murashige and Skoog(MS)*** work was designed to estimate the effect of two factors(low levels of 1-Naphthaleneacetic acid NAA and sucrose)on *** response resulting in 6 treatments compared to the control,with twelve measured *** was a significant difference in some measurements in morphology,like plantlets fresh-weight,shoot-,root-length,and leaf *** the physiological measurements,there were significant differences in all the measured *** low concentrations of sucrose and media composition/power(MS grams/L)led to starvation in plants;however,these conditions led to enhancement in some morphological and physiological parameters to overcome the starvation effect,compared to the *** RAPD-PCR molecular marker(four decamers)was used to evaluate the new individuals’genetic variation(instability),resulting in a total polymorphism percentage of 50.83%.It was formerly known that the plantlets were identical to each other and to the mother *** this study,however,the use of distinct media power,hormonal and sucrose levels resulted in molecular variation reflected in ***’s morphological and physiological responses.

Image segmentation is crucial for various research areas. Manycomputer vision applications depend on segmenting images to understandthe scene, such as autonomous driving, surveillance systems, robotics, andmedical imaging. With the recent advances in deep learning (DL) and itsconfounding results in image segmentation, more attention has been drawnto its use in medical image segmentation. This article introduces a surveyof the state-of-the-art deep convolution neural network (CNN) models andmechanisms utilized in image segmentation. First, segmentation models arecategorized based on their model architecture and primary working ***, CNN categories are described, and various models are discussed withineach category. Compared with other existing surveys, several applicationswith multiple architectural adaptations are discussed within each category.A comparative summary is included to give the reader insights into utilizedarchitectures in different applications and datasets. This study focuses onmedical image segmentation applications, where the most widely used architecturesare illustrated, and other promising models are suggested that haveproven their success in different domains. Finally, the present work discussescurrent limitations and solutions along with future trends in the field.

AIM:To investigate the effect of administration of agmatine(AGM) on gastric protection against ischemia reperfusion(I/R) ***:Three groups of rats(6/group);sham,gastric I/R injury,and gastric I/R + AGM(100 mg/kg,*** 15 min prior to gastric ischemia) were *** injury was conducted by ligating celiac artery for 30 min and reperfusion for another 30 *** tissues were histologically studied and immunostained with angiopoietin 1(Ang-1) and *** endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1) were measured in gastric tissue *** assess whether AKt/phosphatidyl inositol-3-kinase(PI3K) mediated the effect of AGM,an additional group was pretreated with Wortmannin(WM)(inhibitor of Akt/PI3K,15 μg/kg,i.p.),prior to ischemic injury and AGM treatment,and examined histologically and *** set of experiments was run to study vascular permeability of the stomach using Evan's blue ***:AGM markedly reduced Evan's blue dye extravasation(3.58 ± 0.975 μg/stomach vs 1.175 ± 0.374 μg/stomach,P < 0.05),VEGF(36.87 ± 2.71 pg/100 mg protein vs 48.4 ± 6.53 pg/100 mg protein,P < 0.05) and MCP-1 tissue level(29.5 ± 7 pg/100 mg protein vs 41.17 ± 10.4 pg/100 mg protein,P < 0.01).It preserved gastric histology and reduced ***-1 and Ang-2 immunostaining were reduced in stomach sections of AGM-treated *** administration of WM abolished the protective effects of AGM and extensive hemorrhage and ulcerations were ***:AGM protects the stomach against I/R injury by reducing vascular permeability and *** protection is possibly mediated by Akt/PI3K.

Understanding the temporal stability in the factors influencing drivers' injury severity in single-vehicle collisions would help evaluating the effectiveness of implementing different safety treatments so that researchers could understand whether any safety improvements,observed after applying a certain safety treatment, are attributed to the specific treatment or simply attributed to the temporal instability of the factors being addressed. This study investigates the temporal stability of the factors affecting drivers' injury severity in singlevehicle collisions involving light-duty vehicles. The study is based on utilizing ordinal regression modeling to analyze the severity of drivers' injuries in all police-reported lightduty single-vehicle collisions that occurred in North Carolina from January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2013. A separate regression model was estimated for each year so that statistical significance of each risk factor may be compared over the years. The study also estimated random-parameter(mixed) ordered logit models to explore the heterogeneity in data. The most significant factor that was found to increase the severity of drivers' injuries in light-duty single-vehicle collisions is driving under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs. Other significant factors, in decreasing order in terms of their significance, include driving on a highway curve, exceeding speed limit, lighting conditions, the age of the driver, and the age of the vehicle. In contrast, there were six factors that were found to be significant in only some years and not in all years. These six temporally unstable factors include the use of seatbelt, driver's gender, rural highways, undivided highways, the type of the light-duty vehicle, and weather and road surface conditions. These same factors were found by other previous research studies to be significant and stable predictors of drivers' injury severity in single-vehicle collisions.

The neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE)is an important cause of neurological morbidity and mortality in *** therapy is considered a promising method for treating severe neurological disorders such as this *** cells have the capacity for self-renewal and differentiation into certain cell *** present study was aimed to find out the most beneficial route of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)administration for the attenuation of experimentally induced HIE in neonatal *** neonatal rats were divided randomly into four *** 1:control *** 2:rats were exposed to bilateral ligation of cephalic *** 3:rats were exposed to bilateral ligation of cephalic arteries and then underwent intravenous(IV)BMSC *** 4:rats were exposed to bilateral ligation of cephalic arteries and then underwent intracerebroventricular(ICV)BMSC *** animals were evaluated by(a)neurobehavioral tests;(b)histopathology,i.e.,histological and immuno-histochemical studies;and(3)gene expression *** BMSC treated groups(3 and 4)showed improvement in neurobehavioral tests,histopathological studies,and gene expression,as compared to non-injected lesioned rats(Group 2)with better improvement in Group 4(ICV injections)than in Group 3(IV injections).
