Launching a paradigm for first and redo-surgery in primary congenital glaucoma: institutional experience

AIm: To evaluate the outcome of the initial and the redo-surgeries for primary congenital glaucoma(PCG) correlated to its degree of severity. mETHODS: A retrospective study involved patients with PCG presented between 2010 and 2018. medical records were reviewed to assess the degree of the preoperative severity according to the intraocular pressure(IOP), corneal diameter and corneal edema. Success and failure rates were calculated for both first and redo-surgeries at 6 and 12 mo respectively then correlated to the severity of the cases. RESULTS: Complete records were retrieved for 272 eyes(153 patients) with PCG: 43 eyes were mild, 136 moderate and 93 severe. Combined trabeculotomy and trabeculectomy(CTT) had the highest success rate in moderate(96.4%) and severe cases(59.3%) while trabeculotomy had the highest success rate in mild cases(96.3%). medical records of 88 eyes(63 patients) with recurrent PCG were analyzed, most with severe presentation(59 eyes). Ahmed glaucoma valve(AGV) was used in 67(76%) eyes and augmented trabeculectomy in 21(24%) eyes. At 12 mo, there was no statistically significant difference between both surgeries in total success rate(P=0.256). For mild cases, success rate was 100% for both surgeries. Severe cases had higher success rates following AGV(87%) than augmented trabeculectomy(20%). Preoperative severity of the disease was an independent factor affecting the failure rate in secondary trabeculectomy but not in AGV. Patients younger than 24 mo had higher probabilities of failure following both redo-surgeries with hazard ratio =1.325 and 0.37 for augmented trabeculectomy and AGV respectively. CONCLUSION: Preoperative assessment of the severity of eyes with PCG helps in the selecting the optimal primary and secondary surgery. For first surgery, trabeculotomy is more effective in mild cases whereas; CTT and augmented subscleral trabeculectomy(SST) are appropriate for moderate and severe cases. The Reaction of Cyanoacetylhydrazine with Chloroacetone: Synthesis of 1,2,4-Triazine, 1,3,4-Oxadiazine and Their Fused Derivatives with Antitumor Activities

The reaction of cyanoacetylhydrazine with chloroacetone gave the N-(1-chloropropan-2-ylidene)-2-cyanoacetohy- drazide. This compound reacted with either hydrazine hydrate or phenylhydrazine to give the corresponding 1,2,4-tri- azine derivatives. On the other hand, its reaction with either benzenediazonium chloride or benzaldehyde gave in each case the 1,3,4-oxadiazine derivatives. moreover, the reaction of the cyanoacetylhydrazine with 2-boromocyclohexa- none gave the corresponding hydrazine-hydrozon derivative. The antitumor evaluation of the newly synthesized prod- ucts against three cancer cell lines, namely breast adenocarcinoma (mCF-7), non-small cell lung cancer (NCI-H460) and CNS cancer (SF-268) was recorded. Some of the tested compounds showed activities which was higher than the reference doxorubicin.

Investigating How Parental Perceptions of Cybersecurity Influence Children’s Safety in the Cyber World: A Case Study of Saudi Arabia

This paper explores the convergence of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 with the increasing dependence on the Internet for educational purposes. It sheds light on the potential cybersecurity risks and how parental perception impacts children’s willingness to adapt cybersecurity features. By instilling the significance of cybersecurity awareness in early stages, society can provide children with the necessary skills to navigate the digital realm responsibly. As we progress, ongoing research and collaborative endeavors will be pivotal in formulating effective strategies to shield the digital generation from the potential pitfalls of the virtual realm. Regular Internet usage is essential for various purposes such as communication, education, and leisure. The cohorts of Generation Z and Alpha were born during a period of exponential Internet growth, leading them to heavily engage with the Internet. Consequently, they are equally vulnerable to cybersecurity threats just like adults. Addressing potential security risks for today’s youth becomes the responsibility of parents as the primary line of defense. This research focuses on raising awareness about the imperative of ensuring children’s safety in the online sphere, particularly by their parents. The study is conducted within the specific context of Saudi Arabia, aiming to examine how Saudi parents’ perception of cybersecurity influences their children’s cyber safety. The study identifies critical factors, including attitudes towards cybersecurity, awareness of cybersecurity, and prevailing social norms regarding cybersecurity. These factors contribute to the development of parents’ intention to prioritize cybersecurity, which consequently affects their children’s behaviors in the digital realm. Utilizing a quantitative approach based on a questionnaire, the study employs a Structural Equation modeling (SEm) framework to analyze the collected data. Synthesis,antimicrobial, antiquorum-sensing and cytotoxic activities of new series of benzothiazole derivatives

New series of benzothiazole derivatives were designed and synthesized. The newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus. Compounds 6j and 6o showed the highest activity against E. coli and S. aureus. The antifungal activity of these compounds was also tested against Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus293. Compounds 4c, 4g and 6j exhibited the highest activity against C. albicans. In addition, compounds4 a and 6j displayed promising activity against A. fumigatus 293. The same compounds were examined for their antiquorum-sensing activity against Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC 12472, whereas compounds4 a, 6j and 6p showed moderate activity. The in vitro cytotoxicity testing of the synthesized compounds was performed against cervical cancer（Hela） and kidney fibroblast cancer（COS-7） cell lines. Results indicated that all tested compounds have IC50 values 〉50 mmol/L against both cell lines. molecular properties, toxicities, drug-likeness, and drug score profiles of compounds 4a–c, 5a, 6g,h, 6j, 6l, 6o and7 c,d were also assessed.

Since Type 1 diabetes(T1Dm)occurs whenβ-cells mass is reduced to less than 20%of the normal level due to autoimmune destruction of cells resulting in the inability to secrete insulin,preservation or replenishment of the functionalβ-cells mass has become a major therapeutic focus for this diabetic type ***,this 4-week work plan was designed to determine which mesenchymal stem cells(mSCs)type is more appropriate to alleviate pancreatic hazards resulting from diabetes induction;via tracking a comparative study between mSCs derived from adipose tissue(AD-mSCs)and from bone marrow(Bm-mSCs)in management of T1Dm considering their immunomodulatory,anti-apoptotic and antioxidative *** were divided randomly into 4 groups;control,STZdiabetic(D),D+AD-mSCs,and D+Bm-mSCs *** stem cells types in this study were ***,both oxidative stress and antioxidant markers were evaluated using colorimetric analysis,while inflammatory,immune and apoptotic markers were assessed through flow cytometric *** showed that diabetic rats treated with either AD-mSCs or Bm-mSCs exhibited marked pancreatic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities that were able to initiate pancreatic immunomodulation and reducingβ-cells apoptotic death,thus,help to restore their normal insulin secretion and hypoglycemic ***,AD-mSCs injection was shown to be superior as a pancreatic regenerative tool in overcoming diabetes;owing to their marked antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,immunomodulatory,and anti-apoptotic characteristics over Bm-mSCs treatment.

Fatty Acids Composition and Biodiesel Characterization of <i>Dunaliella salina</i>

This study discusses the perspectives regarding the green alga Dunaliella salina Toed for biodiesel manufacturing purposes. The alga was cultivated under controlled lab conditions. Biomass concentration at early stationary grown microalga was 2.6 mg/L dry weight, while the algal oil was about 27.1% of the biomass. Algal oil was esterified and analyzed using GLC technique. Fourteen fatty acid methyl esters were identified. The amount of saturated and unsaturated fatty ester fractions was 35% and 65% respectively. The physicochemical properties of fatty acids comprising biodiesel were discussed. However, culture optimization coupled with genetic improvement will definitely represent contributions to bring about innovation in oil hyper-producing D. salina that will ultimately meet with success.

Radiological Doses and Risk Assessment of NORm Scrap metal by Using RESRAD-RECYCLE Computer Code

In this work the radiological dose and risks resulting from recycling of radioactive contaminated NORm scrap metal that produced from one of oil and gas production companies in Egypt, were determined by using RESRAD-RECYCLE computer code. Two scenarios were used: the first was the workers’ scenario, while the second was end-use product scenario. Workers’ scenario was used in this study for evaluating the dose and risk to workers who process recycled materials. This scenario focused on the transport of radioactive NORm scrap metal from the place of origin to the smelter (scrap delivery step). Scenarios for six different workers were included under the scrap delivery step: two workers scrap cutter, two workers scrap loader, and two workers scrap truck driver. The values for each scenario were specified on the basis of processing 200 tons of NORm scrap metal. Because these operations occur before melting of the metal, mass and radionuclide partitioning factors were not applied in the scrap metal delivery step. The radionuclide concentration of the NORm scrap metal was used directly in the dose calculation. The maximum doses received from direct external exposure to all radio nuclides during cutter/sorter, scrap truck driver and unloading of scrap metals were 2.14E-04, 1.4E-06 and 1.86E-05 (mSv) respectively. The excess cancer risks for all radio nuclides during cutter/sorter of scrap metals reached 1.25E-07. Radiation exposures incurred by the scrap unloaders and scrap cutters/sorters were greater than those incurred by the other workers for their closer exposure distances and longer time.

An Automated System for Early Prediction of miscarriage in the First Trimester Using machine Learning

Currently, the risk factors of pregnancy loss are increasing andare considered a major challenge because they vary between cases. The earlyprediction of miscarriage can help pregnant ladies to take the needed careand avoid any danger. Therefore, an intelligent automated solution must bedeveloped to predict the risk factors for pregnancy loss at an early stage toassist with accurate and effective diagnosis. machine learning (mL)-baseddecision support systems are increasingly used in the healthcare sector andhave achieved notable performance and objectiveness in disease predictionand prognosis. Thus, we developed a model to help obstetricians predictthe probability of miscarriage using mL. And support their decisions andexpectations about pregnancy status by providing an easy, automated way topredict miscarriage at early stages using mL tools and techniques. Althoughmany published papers proposed similar models, none of them used Saudiclinical data. Our proposed solution used mL classification algorithms tobuild a miscarriage prediction model. Four classifiers were used in this study:decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), k-nearest neighbor (KNN), andgradient boosting (GB). Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F1-score, and receiveroperating characteristic area under the curve (ROC-AUC) were used to evaluatethe proposed model. The results showed that GB overperformed the otherclassifiers with an accuracy of 93.4% and ROC-AUC of 97%. This proposedmodel can assist in the early identification of at-risk pregnant women to avoidmiscarriage in the first trimester and will improve the healthcare sector inSaudi Arabia.
